Old town Auburn, CA is one of the typical Sierra Nevada foothill "Gold-Rush-era" downtowns, as it's located in a steep, narrow canyon, which makes for a very picturesque setting. If you're interested in exploring antiques, boutiques and just about anything unique, old town Auburn will keep you going for a long time. Shopping is hungry work, but there are no worries, as Edelweiss Restaurant 2 is located in Gold Rush Plaza, in historic old town Auburn. As with all restaurant reviews I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences. Photo: Good morning! It's Saturday, October 05, 2024, and it's the first Saturday of the month, and that means prime rib and eggs are offered for breakfast at Edelweiss Restaurant 2! Prime rib and eggs is a tradition at this restaurant, and it's even listed on the printed menu. This is a monthly event that you don't want to miss! Photo: Edelweiss Restaurant 2 is located in the Gold Rush Plaza in historic old town Auburn. It's around 08:30 on this beautiful Saturday morning in early October and we're looking forward to another epic breakfast of "Prime Rib and Eggs." Photo: Dan looks at the menu specials posted outside on the sidewalk. The complete menu is also posted on the door, which is truly a unique feature. Printed menus are used inside and there are also to-go menus available for you to take home. Photo: The dining room was quite busy on this Saturday morning as this fine restaurant has achieved quite a reputation among locals as serving one of the best breakfasts in the Sierra foothills and the Gold Country. Photo: Anna seemed to be everywhere with her friendly smile along with an pitcher of coffee for endless refills. Photo: Meet Ashley, our amazingly friendly server who brought our breakfasts to the table with a smile. Photo: Keith and Dan joined your author today for this amazing breakfast. Your author is a happy guy, as he offers a toast to delicious eating at Edelweiss Restaurant 2. Photo: Dan is a happy guy as he is ready to enjoy his breakfast of "Prime Rib and Eggs" on this beautiful Saturday morning. He and I ordered identical breakfasts Photo: Dan took my photo as I was taking a photo of Keith's breakfast, which is published in the next photo. This photo shows we enjoyed quite a spread at our table! Photo: Keith went with "Prime Rib and Eggs," along with country style potatoes, fried eggs over medium with his slab of prime rib cooked well done. It's always a hard choice between country potatoes and hash browns as both are delicious! The great thing is that you can't go wrong either way you go. Dan and I ordered identical breakfasts. Photo: A perfectly grilled slab of prime rib, hash brown potatoes, two fried eggs, a side of sausage gravy, and a slice of toast made for a perfect breakfast. The horseradish sauce and the side of gravy made for fine dipping, and the Heinekin beer made for a great dessert. The monthly prime rib breakfast Edelweiss Restaurant 2 serves one of the best breakfasts in Placer County, and maybe even in the greater Sacramento area. This amazing breakfast event happens the first Saturday of every month and is published on social media. We came here for the prime rib... and we got prime rib! I'm talking about a generous slab of prime rib - a pound or so - grilled perfectly to order, in my case... medium rare and taste-bud perfect. Talk about an amazing breakfast entree... the slab of meat was a very large, thick 16-oz cut of choice prime rib beef, which was tender, juicy and cooked to order. I went with medium rare, which was my choice, but if medium rare isn't your choice, the talented chef will grill your prime rib exactly the way you choose. As always, the meat was perfectly cooked, tender, flavorful and simply delicious! Not only was it tender and delicious, it was simply beautiful to look at and almost made me afraid to dig into it. Well... almost... Two cups of horseradish sauce for dipping always works with me, and really gets my taste buds into morning overdrive. Oh... I almost forgot to mention the presentation today was simply beautiful, as the slab of beef was medium brown around the edge, but a tender pinkish inside... tender, juicy and delicious! This is a slab of prime rib at it's best in every way... If you really desire to make your morning truly spectacular, cut off a small piece of the juicy prime rib, dip it into the horseradish sauce and enjoy. It's a slice of heaven in Auburn! As in previous visits, my large slab of hash brown potatoes made for the perfect side dish. As in all "old school" diners, the hash browns were golden crispy and crunchy on the outside, and tender, white and juicy on the inside, which made perfect hash brown potatoes. Enjoyed as a side dish to the prime rib, dipped into the eggs, or the gravy, the hash browns were simply perfect. And the gravy... this breakfast is "standalone delicious" but why not go the extra mile and add an optional side of sausage gravy? You won't regret it, as the gravy was thick, creamy, rich, full of flavor and included lots of sausage bits. The gravy could almost make for a standalone side dish, but when you dip your potatoes or toast into the gravy... it's shangri la time in old town Auburn for breakfast! My two eggs, fried sunnyside up, as per my order, arrived fried... perfectly. The piece of sourdough toast was perfectly buttered and toasted, and added to the enjoyment of my delicious breakfast. Dessert... or was it hours d'oeuvres? ... a Heineken beer rounded out the perfect breakfast, and added to the delicious festivities. Just a quick note that the prime rib breakfast is always priced at "market value" so the price varies from month to month. The breakfast is not your "diner priced" bargain breakfast, as it's premium every step of the way, but it's a breakfast that you'll love, and you'll forward to next month to enjoy it again... Photo: A small piece of beef, dipped into sausage gravy made for a simply delicious bite of goodness! The first Saturday of every month is a time for all "foodies" and breakfast lovers to look forward to, as you'll enjoy one of the best breakfasts on the planet when you enjoy "Prime Rib and Eggs" at Edelweiss Restaurant 2, located in old town Auburn, CA. You don't want to miss this breakfast! Let's go back to 7 o'clock in the morning, Saturday, August 03, 2024 which was the last time I was able to enjoy this amazing breakfast... Photo: The first Saturday of every month is "Prime Rib and Eggs" breakfast day at Edelweiss Restaurant 2, located in historic old town Auburn, CA. "Foodies" from the greater Sacramento area can't pass up this great breakfast, which happens once a month. I'm Facebook friends with the restaurant, and they normally make a post a few days before the month event happens. Photo: Edleweiss Restaurant 2 is located in the Gold Rush Plaza, in historic old town Auburn. You can see the historic court house behind the restaurant. As an "aside," the old court house is located on a hill which divides "old town" from "downtown." Unless you're familiar with Auburn... you'll quickly realize Auburn isn't you typical town layed out by grid squares, as the town is quite different, as it's in the Sierra Nevada foothill country. It's 7 o'clock in the morning, Saturday, August 03, 2024, and it's time to enjoy breakfast! Photo: It's just after the 07:00 in the morning opening time, Saturday, August 03, 2024, and I've arrived to enjoy a breakfast of prime rib and eggs, one of the best breakfast that you can in imagine in Placer County. "Gold Country Plaza" is a historic building that has been converted into an indoor mall of sorts, and the restaurant opens to the street and displays the menu on a door outside. Photo: The dining room is quite compact, rustic, and looks out to Washington Street. Photo: The window to the kitchen, where the talented chef has placed two orders ready to be delivered. At a little past the 7 o'clock opening time, I was surprised to see the restaurant so busy, but it isn't surprising, as Edelweiss Restaurant 2 has achieved a reputation among Placer County "foodies" as a friendly, and delicious restaurant. Photo: Meet my amazingly friendly hostess, Jessica, who delivered my breakfast to me with a smile. Photo: I toast my hostess Jessica, along with the delicious off and friendly atmosphere that Edelweiss Restaurant 2 offers. Cheers! Photo: "Prime Rib Saturday" happens the first Saturday of the month at Edelweiss Restaurant 2, where you enjoy an amazing breakfast of prime rib, eggs, potatoes, toast. I'm a "gravy person," as I LOVE a side of gravy, so I ordered an optional side of gravy along with a Heineken beer for dessert... or was it my appetizer for breakfast? As you read this post, you'll note that I've enjoyed many Saturday morning breakfasts of prime rib at Edelweiss Restaurant 2, and I'll be enjoying many more in the future. The food is so delicious that I can't stay away, despite the every dynamic "market pricing" of this delicious breakfast. The meat and eggs are cooked to your liking, and you choose between a wide array of toast. I'm a sourdough kind of guy, so I went with sourdough for my toast today. Prime rib is cooked the way you like it - in my case medium rare - the talented chef at Edelweiss Restaurant 2 won't disappoint you, as your cut of prime rib will be cooked perfectly, exactly the way you ordered it. I know, as I've been hitting "Prime Rib Saturday" for most of the past year and I've always been totally satisfied, and egerly awaiting the next month's offering. Where to start?... the slab of meat was a very large, thick 16-oz cut of choice prime rib beef, which was tender, juicy and cooked to order. I went with medium rare, which is my first choice, but if medium rare isn't your flavor, the talented chef will grill your prime rib exactly the way you choose. As always, the meat was perfectly cooked, tender, flavorful and simply delicious! Not only was it tender and delicious, it was simply beautiful to look at and almost made me afraid to dig into it. Well... almost... Two cups of horseradish sauce for dipping always works with me, and really kicks my morning into overdrive. What could be finer than a large, tender cut of prime rib, cooked exactly the way to want to get your Saturday started the right way? Oh... maybe a side of some of the best homestyle country fried potatoes in Auburn. Yes... I altered my routine a bit on this Saturday morning and went with homestyle country fried potatoes rather than my usual choice of hash browns. Not a problem going from my de facto standard of hash browns to country fried potatoes, as the dining scene at Edelweiss Restaurant 2 is epic, especially when prime rib is the main course for breakfast. Potatoes made the best side dish on the planet, whether they are hash browns or country fried... as long as the potatoes are fried. My order of country fried potatoes was simply amazingly delicious! The potatoes were coarsely cut and different sizes - perfect - fried crispy dark golden brown on the outside and tender white inside. Again... perfect! It was simply sublime to dip the potatoes into the dish of gravy on the side and savor the goodness. Ah yes... how can you enjoy an amazing breakfast of prime rib without a side of gravy for added pleasure? The gravy, as always, was flavorful, creamy, rich and offered lots of chunks of sausage. Simply delicious! The gravy added an extra level of elegance to this amazing breakfast as I dipped the potatoes into the bowl and savored every bite. Oh... me... bad!!! Most of the time, I order my eggs fried sunnyside up, and today was no exception. I was pleased to see that my eggs arrived perfectly fried, as per my order. The chef has talent! Talk about a perfect side for prime rib, country potatoes and more... The bottle of Heineken beer, in a frosted glass worked for a perfect appetizer... or was it dessert? Whatever the case, it added a great side to this amazing breakfast. I suppose that I'm beginning to sound like a broken record as I visit Edelweiss Restaurant 2 many Saturdays to enjoy the special breakfast of prime rib and eggs, but I simply can't stay away from the delicious food, and the friendly service this fine restaurant has to offer. Simply stated, this is most likely my favorite breakfast in all of Placer County. Photo: I cut up a piece off of the tender slab of prime rib, and prepare to enjoy... What could be a better way to enjoy a Saturday morning in California's Gold Country? Photo: Prime rib breakfast happens the first Saturday of the month at Edelweiss Restaurant 2, and here we are, Saturday, July 06, 2024, ready to enjoy another amazing breakfast. Photo: It's a little past 09:00 in the morning, Saturday, July 06, 2024, and we've arrived at Edelweiss Restaurant 2, located in old town Auburn, CA to enjoy an amazing prime rib breakfast. It's hot... as the temperature in the western Sierra Nevada foothills is hovering just under 90 degrees, but the temperature is cool inside the restaurant and the atmosphere is warm and cheery. Photo: By mid-Saturday morning, the restaurant was busy, but were able to fine a table for four - there were three of us today - without waiting. An hour or so later, as we were leaving, the small dining room was packed. Photo: A section of the "Breakfast" menu that highlights "Prime Rib and Eggs," which is served on the first Saturday of every month. The menu is a total of five pages, and lists all of your breakfast and lunch favorites. Click on the menu image or THIS LINK to view the complete menu of Edelweiss Restaurant 2. Photo: Hostesses Ashley, Courtney and Bethany are busy in front of the kitchen, as the talented chefs look on and perform their magic. Photo: Super friendly Bethany was today's hostess serving drinks and generally keeping things going. She smiled after she refilled Dan's glass of ice tea. Photo: Meet Ashley, our amazingly friendly hostess today, who brings Sharlene's breakfast, along with a plate of English muffins to our table with a smile. As always, Ashley treated us like family, with great service and a welcoming smile. Photo: Yours truly, Sharlene and Dan have been served and are ready to enjoy breakfast on "Prime Rib Saturday." Thanks to our friendly hostess, Ashley, for taking the photo. Photo: Sharlene went with prime rib grilled medium rare, homestyle country potatoes and scrambled eggs. Like all of us she ordered a side a gravy, and like Dan, she went with English muffin for her toast. Photo: Dan's breakfast was identical to Sharlene's with the exception of his eggs were fried over easy. Like Sharlene, he went with his prime rib cooked medium rare, homestyle country potatoes, English muffins, and a side of country gravy. Photo: "Prime Rib Saturday" happens the first Saturday of the month at Edelweiss Restaurant 2, where you enjoy an amazing breakfast of prime rib, eggs, potatoes, toast, an optional side of sausage gravy with a cup of horseradish sauce for dipping. The Heineken beer was my appetizer... or was it dessert? The meat, eggs and potatoes are cooked "your way," and you choose between a wide array of toast. I'm a sourdough kind of guy, so I almost always order sourdough. Toast wasn't in the photo, as it arrived later, thanks to our larger-than-normal size group today. I've already sprinkled pepper on my eggs, as I'm ready to get started on this amazing breakfast. Your prime rib is cooked the way you like it, and after enjoying this amazing breakfast practically every Saturday morning for nearly a year, I can tell you that your prime rib will be cooked to perfection. One caveat is the breakfast is priced at "market value," so the price varies, and it isn't cheap, but it's worth every penny as there's nothing like it anywhere else in western Placer County. Bring your plastic and your wallet... Today, as always, I went with my prime rib cooked medium rare, a side of some of the best hash browns in the Gold Country, eggs fried sunnyside up, sourdough toast, along with a optional side of gravy. Ashley knows I love to dip my prime rib into horseradish sauce, so she brought me two cups of it, along with one cup for Dan. Sharlene declined the offer. Where to start?... the slab of meat was a very large, thick 16-oz cut of choice prime rib beef, which was tender, juicy and cooked to order. Well... almost... Two cups of horseradish sauce for dipping always works with me, and really kicks my morning into overdrive. What could be finer than a large, tender cut of prime rib, cooked exactly the way to want to get your Saturday started the right way? Oh... I almost forgot to mention the presentation today was simply beautiful, as the slab of beef was medium brown around the edge, but a tender pinkish inside... tender, juicy and delicious! For my side of potatoes, I went with a generous side of hash browns. If hash brown potatoes aren't to your liking, you can order homestyle country fried potatoes instead. The hash browns were fried to a perfect golden brown, crispy on the outside, yet tender and white on the outside, which made for the perfect hash browns, and an amazing side to the prime rib. The hash brown potatoes were "standalone delicious" but made even better when dipped into the side of gravy. Oh my! I ordered my eggs fried sunnyside up, and they arrived perfectly fried, as per my order. When I enjoy hash browns, I always order my eggs fried this way, as they work well for hash browns. The plate of buttered sourdough toast worked well with the eggs, potatoes and the side of gravy. As nearly always, I ordered an optional side of breakfast gravy, which in my "foodie opinion" is a "must do" when you dine at this amazing restaurant, as it's some of the best breakfast gravy in Placer County! The gravy was flavorful, creamy, rich and offered lots of chunks of sausage, which made amazing dipping for the prime rib, along with the hash brown potatoes. I LOVE a quality breakfast, and the prime rib breakfast, served at Edelweiss Restaurant 2 is the pinnacle of quality, as it's perfectly cooked, the presentation is beautiful, and it's simply delicious! You won't leave hungry, and in my case, I brought half of it home in a box to enjoy for dinner. Over the last year or so I've gotten to know Ashley, our hostess, and today, like always, she provided friendly and efficient service, with a smile. Combine an amazing breakfast, along with friendly service... you simply can't beat "Prime Rib Saturday" at Edelweiss Restaurant 2, located in historic old town Auburn, CA. Photo: My 16-oz slab of prime rib beef, perfectly cooked to medium rare, exactly as I ordered. Simply delicious! Hash brown potatoes, along with a couple eggs made for the perfect sides to a perfect breakfast. Let's revisit Saturday, June 1st, 2024, when my friend Dan and I enjoyed his first prime rib breakfast at Edelweiss Restaurant 2... Photo: "Prime Rib Time" happens for breakfast at Edelweiss 2 Restaurant the first Saturday of every month. The restaurant posts on social media a few days in advance... not that you really need a reminder! Photo: Edelweiss 2 Restaurant is located in the "Gold Rush Plaza," in historic old town Auburn, CA. It's Saturday morning, June 01, 2024, the first Saturday of the month, and it's time to enjoy a delicious breakfast, featuring a choice cut of prime rib. Photo: A white board in front of the restaurant, and another on the dining room wall announce the daily specials. Where else in Auburn can you enjoy "Loco Moco" for breakfast! Photo: The dining room is simple and on the small side, but very comfortable, and the friendly staff will treat you like royalty. We arrived shortly after opening time, but by the time we left, the dining room was nearly fully seated. Photo: The dining room looks out to Washington Street and you can watch the happenings in old town Auburn as you enjoy your breakfast. Photo: Meet friendly Jessica, who brought our breakfast to our table with a genuine smile. Since I'm a regular at this fine restaurant, I'm on first-name basis with most of the staff. Jessica always provides friendly, efficient and enthusiastic service and she treats all diners like family. Photo: Dan and I are happy diners, and I raise my beer to toast Jessica, prime rib and Edelweiss 2 Restaurant. We ordered nearly identical breakfasts except that I ordered a second cup of horseradish sauce for dipping. Photo: Today was "Prime Rib Saturday" and we ordered identical breakfasts of prime rib, hash browns, eggs, toast a side of gravy, and a Heineken beer for dessert. The fist Saturday of every month is "Prime Rib Saturday" at Edelweiss 2. The star of the breakfast was a very large, thick 16-oz cut of prime rib beef, which was tender, juicy and cooked to order. We went with medium rare, as a little pink always works out well with a succulent cut of prime rib. As always, the meat was perfectly cooked, tender, flavorful and simply delicious! To "enhance" the stand-alone delicious prime rib, I requested two cups of creamy horseradish sauce which made for perfect dipping. Talk about an eye opener for breakfast! If you're a lover of a delicious and quality slab of beef for breakfast, you're in business. "Foodies" can't live by beef alone, so each breakfast featured a generous side of hash browns. If hash brown potatoes are to your liking, you can order country fried potatoes instead. The hash browns were fried to a perfect golden brown, crispy on the outside, yet tender and white on the outside, just like the hash browns in your dreams. A bite of hash browns dipped into the delicious sausage gravy was a bite of heaven. We ordered eggs fried sunnyside up, and they arrived perfectly fried, as per our request. When I enjoy hash browns, I always order my eggs fried this way, as they work well for hash browns. The plate of buttered sourdough toast worked well with the eggs, potatoes and the side of gravy. Yes, we each ordered an optional side of breakfast gravy, which is a "must do" when you dine at this amazing restaurant, as it's some of the best breakfast gravy in Placer County! The gravy was flavorful, creamy, rich and offered lots of chunks of sausage, which made for amazing dipping. Dessert... or was it hours d'oeuvres? ... a Heineken beer rounded out the perfect breakfast, at Edelweiss 2, located in historic old town Auburn CA. Just a quick note that the prime rib breakfast is always priced at "market value" so the price varies from month to month. The breakfast isn't cheap, but it's a quality breakfast, VERY filling, delicious, and worth every cent of the price of admission. Do yourself a "foodie" favor and enjoy a prime rib breakfast at Edelweiss 2 Restaurant, located in historic old town Auburn, CA. Let's go back last month to May 04, 2024, when I enjoyed another amazing breakfast showcasing "Prime Rib and Eggs..." Photo: The first Saturday of the month is "Prime Rib Saturday" at Edelweiss 2, located in old town Auburn, CA. The prime rib is primarily offered for breakfast, but any leftovers are served for lunch. Since the restaurant is open only for breakfast and lunch, anything listed on the menu can be ordered any time the restaurant is open. Photo: Edelweiss Restaurant 2 opens at 7:00 in the morning, every day of the week. It's a little past the 7:00 opening time, Saturday, May 04, 2024, and I've come to enjoy a delicious breakfast of prime rib. Photo: The rustically decorated dining room is very lightly seated at this early hour, but after enjoying my breakfast, the dining room began filling up. If you sit near the large front windows, you get a good view of the passing pedestrians and traffic on Sacramento Street. Photo: The dining room is quite compact and lacks a breakfast counter, as the space in back, opposite the window to the kitchen, features small tables for one of two diners each. Each table is set with an array of common diner condiments, such as hot sauce, ketchup, mustard with salt and pepper. Photo: Meet Jessica, this morning's hostess who brought my delicious breakfast to me with a friendly smile. Photo: I raise my glass of Heineken beer and toast the friendly staff at Edelweiss 2, and the delicious breakfast of prime rib that I'm about to enjoy. Photo: Today was the first Saturday of the month, so I went with prime rib, eggs, hash browns and a side of gravy, two cups of horseradish sauce, sourdough toast and a Heineken beer for dessert. The first Saturday of the month is "Prime Rib Day" at Edelweiss 2 as the restaurant offers prime rib, served with eggs for breakfast, and they always post the occasion on social media in advance. The prime rib breakfast is priced at "market value," and it isn't cheap, but it's worth every penny and makes for amazing gold country dining. My breakfast included a generous cut of prime rib beef, perfectly cooked to medium rare, exactly as I ordered. The cut of meat was very generous and I'm guessing about 16 ounces or so, which made for a filling main dish. The beef was juicy, flavorful and perfectly grilled, and it was "fork tender." I really didn't need the knife to cut the meat, as it was super moist and tender. The cup of horseradish sauce made for perfect dipping... The large slab of hash brown potatoes were grilled to a perfect crispy, golden brown on the outside, yet tender and juicy on the inside. Unlike other hash browns, my potatoes today were not greasy or salty at all... simply hash brown potatoes cooked to perfection. The talented chef at Edelweiss 2 knows how to create prefect hash brown potatoes! When it comes to breakfast, I'm pretty basic, so I ordered my eggs fried sunnyside up, which go well whit hash brown potatoes. The eggs were perfectly fried, and made for a delicious topping to the hash browns, along with a piece of prime rib, dipped in horseradish sauce. Oh my... When it comes to a side of gravy, I simply can't say "no," so today, I ordered a side dish of gravy, which made for amazing dipping for my hash brown potatoes. The sausage gravy was rich, thick and simply delicious, and made for perfect dipping for hash brown potatoes and prime rib. What a great way to enjoy breakfast! Along with the breakfast was sourdough toast, toasted and buttered to perfection! The toast was simply delicious and made for a great way to enjoy the last of the gravy and the meat drippings. The toast came with two small packages of jelly which I simply ignored, as I like my toast buttered, without any added enhancements. The Heineken beer worked wonders for an appetizer... or was it dessert? Where in the world could you find a better breakfast? Prime rib and eggs, served at Edelweiss 2 is the kind of breakfast that makes you want to wake up, rise and shine, and simply SMILE! The food is simply delicious, and as an added touch, the super friendly staff and the rustic dining in old town Auburn add to the dining pleasure... along with the ambiance. Photo: Close-up of my juicy, tender and delicious but of prime rib beef. I rarely miss "prime rib day," as I simply can't get enough of it! Actually, I can, as I took half the meat, some of the potatoes, the toast and a couple extra cups of horseradish sauce home with me in a box, as I couldn't eat it all in one setting. When you enjoy breakfast at Edelweiss 2, in old town Auburn, you'll leave with a smile of your face and a full stomach! Let's go back a couple of months to Saturday, March 02, 2024 and it's another "Prime Rib Saturday!" Photo: Edelweiss 2 is located inside Gold Rush Plaza, a large historic building that has been converted into a miniature mall of sorts, as besides the restaurant, there are quite a few specialty stores and boutiques. Historic old town Auburn, CA is located in a steep, narrow canyon and features many buildings from the 1870's and earlier. Besides shopping, there are several bars and restaurants, including one of my favorites, Auburn Alehouse and a block away from California Club, the premier bar in Auburn. Photo: The first Saturday of the month is "Prime Rib Saturday" as prime rib is offered as a main entree for breakfast. If any beef is leftover, it's offered for lunch, but it's usually sold out by late morning. Today is Saturday, March 02, 2024 and it's "Prime Rib Saturday!" Photo: I arrived at the 07:00 morning opening time to a lightly filled dining room. The dining is quite cozy and rustic, in keeping with the character and charm of Old Town Auburn. The large picture windows look out to Washington St. and Auburn Alehouse across the street. Most of the diners that enjoy "Prime Rib Saturday" are locals and regular diners at this fine restaurant. Photo: On this early Saturday morning, Jessica was the only hostess on duty, but she always managed to enjoy pleasant conversation with the few guests were dining. If you look through the kitchen window, you can see the talented chef preparing my breakfast, as the biscuit and gravy is ready, and set on the shelf. Photo: Meet Jessica, my amazing friendly hostess, who brought my breakfast to me with a smile. Since I'm a regular at the restaurant, we're on first name basis. She was surprised that I arrived so early, as I usually arrive mid-morning when I ride public transportation. Since today was raining - with the possibility of low snow - I elected to drive. One advantage of driving and arriving early was the restaurant wasn't busy, as it normally is later in the morning. Edelweiss Restaurant 2 is open every day of the week for breakfast and lunch. Photo: I'm a happy diner, as I'm ready enjoy my delicious breakfast of prime rib and eggs. Each table is set with an array of condiments, but since my breakfast was so amazing, I simply used the horseradish sauce to dip chunks of prime rib into. Delicious in every way! Photo: Today, it was prime rib, eggs, hash browns and a side of biscuit gravy with horseradish for dipping. I asked for a second cup, and it was gladly provided. This breakfast is simply amazing! At Edelweiss 2, the first Saturday of the month is "Prime Rib Saturday," and the restaurant offers prime rib, served with eggs for breakfast, and they usually post the occasion on social media in advance. Prime rib is on the printed menu, and the website, and the price is listed as "market value." My breakfast included a generous cut of prime rib beef, perfectly cooked to medium, exactly as I ordered. The cut of meat was very generous and I'm guessing about 16 ounces or so, which made for a filling main dish. The beef was juicy, flavorful and perfectly grilled, and it was "fork tender." I really didn't need the knife to cut the meat, as it was super moist, juicy and tender. The cups of horseradish sauce made for perfect dipping... Oh my... I decided to forgo my usual side of gravy and simply order biscuit and gravy, for a couple dollars extra. Thick rich sausage gravy - with lots of chunks of sausage - covered the fresh biscuit, with enough extra to dip some of the hash browns into. The biscuit was freshly baked, soft, tender but slightly crunchy on the outside, and made for a wonderful side to my breakfast. Since I was driving today, I wisely elected to pass on my usual beer and instead enjoy a glass of ice water. The good news is that I saved $5.00 and negated any worries during the drive home. The only disadvantage to this fine breakfast is it's priced at "market value," which changes every month. The prime rib cut of beef isn't cheap, so bring your wallet! Despite the high price, it's simply delicious and worth every penny. So far, this is the best breakfast that I've had the pleasure to enjoy, while dining in the Gold Country. Photo: My plate of a juicy slice of prime rib, hash browns along with two fried eggs. Prime rib is served for breakfast on the first Saturday of every month. Let's go back to last month, when I enjoyed another delicious breakfast of prime rib, at Edelweiss Restaurant 2, located in Auburn, CA. Photo: I'm Facebook "friends" with fine staff at Edelweiss Restaurant 2, and I saw this ad posted... oh yeah! How could I ever resist a breakfast of prime rib and eggs? At Edelweiss 2, the first Saturday of the month is "prime rib" day, where prime rib and eggs is featured for breakfast, and offered for lunch. It's on the menu, and priced at "market value." I'm friends on Facebook with the restaurant, and they post messages about prime rib a couple days in advance, thanks to Jessica who tends to the web work of the restaurant. Also to take note that I'm a regular and the staff all know me by name. It's like a big, happy family. The breakfast of prime rib and eggs is one of the BEST breakfasts you'll ever have the pleasure to enjoy in Placer County dining! Photo: It's a little after 10:00 in the morning, Saturday, February 03, 2024, and I've arrived at Edelweiss 2 Restaurant, located in historic old town Auburn to enjoy a breakfast of prime rib. The menu is posted outside the restaurant on the sidewalk, and if you look at the window, you'll note they serve 45 varieties of omelettes, and all 45 omelettes are listed on the menu. Photo: Daily specials are posted outside the restaurant, outside the sidewalk. Anything listed on the menu is available any time the restaurant is open. If you get lucky, there may even be some leftover prime rib for breakfast on Sunday or Monday. Photo: The dining room is a busy place on this Saturday morning in early February, 2024. The windows look out to Sacramento Street, in historic old town Auburn, which offers interesting shopping, dining, and a micro brewery... Auburn Alehouse. Photo: Super friendly hostess Jessica serves a diner a breakfast of pancakes and eggs. Besides providing amazing and friendly service, Jessica does all of the Facebook and web work for the restaurant. Photo: I take a peek through the window to the kitchen, where the talented chef has placed orders on the shelf, ready to be delivered. Note the "old school" order wheel... right out of the 1950's! The chef has talent, and I asked my hostess to relay my compliments to the kitchen. Photo: My amazingly friendly hostess, Ashley, brought me a Heineken beer and a frosted glass. Such a great way to get a Saturday started! Photo: Each table is set with basic condiments, including bottles of Cholula and Tabasco hot sauce. Photo: Edelweis 2 is a busy restaurant on this Saturday morning. It is a favorite of Auburn locals, and "foodies" as the restaurant serves some of the best food in town. The restaurant is serious about breakfast, as breakfast is served any time the restaurant is open. Photo: Meet my amazingly friendly hostess Ashley, who brought my delicious breakfast to me with a smile. Since I'm a regular diner, all of the staff know me by name, which is nice. The friendly staff treats all diners like royalty. Photo: I'm a happy guy, as I toast Ashley and Edelweiss 2 with a thumbs-up "Cheers!" There is no better breakfast in the world than prime rib served at this fine restaurant. Photo: Prime rib and eggs, hash brown potatoes, fried eggs, horseradish dressing, sourdough toast, side of gravy, with a Heineken beer for dessert. Does breakfast get any better? Photo: First Saturday of the month, with prime rib, eggs, hash browns and a side of gravy for breakfast. Does breakfast get any better than this? The first Saturday of the month, Edelweiss 2 offers prime rib, served with eggs for breakfast, and they usually post the occasion on social media in advance, and give notice to all "foodies" and loyal diners, like your author. After breakfast, any leftover prime rib is offered for lunch... does life get any better? I checked out their Facebook post, which hit the news on Wednesday, two days before Saturday. I had other pans, but I altered my plans, as how could I ever pass by a breakfast of prime rib and eggs? My breakfast included a generous cut of prime rib beef, perfectly cooked to medium, exactly as I ordered. I confess that I asked for a second cup of horseradish sauce, which was cheerfully provided by my amazing friendly hostess, Ashley. When I dine at a restaurant, I always order hash brown potatoes, as "country style" potatoes are easier to cook at home, so I love to treat myself to something that I have difficulty creating at home. On this Saturday morning, I couldn't help myself, so I ordered a side dish of gravy, which made for amazing dipping for my hash brown potatoes. The toast came with two small packages of jelly which I simply ignored, as I simply like my toast with butter. Alright... you could pay $200+ to dine at a fancy breakfast restaurant in San Francisco, and enjoy all of the frills that big bucks will buy you, including staff dressed in tuxedos and perhaps a glass of champagne. But... for $25.00 or so... how can you imagine a better breakfast than "Prime Rib Saturday" at Edelweiss 2, located in old town Auburn, CA? I simply can't imagine a better breakfast any where, any time or at any price. This is my "go-to" breakfast restaurant on the first Saturday morning of every month. Such an amazing breakfast to enjoy, at a very reasonable price, in western Placer County! I'm already looking forward to next month to enjoy prime rib for breakfast. Photo: I dipped my hash brown potatoes into the optional side of gravy... imagine!!! Breakfast does not get any better, at any price. Photo: Dipping a piece of prime rib into the horseradish dressing. You can't imagine a better breakfast adventure than the amazing cuisine you'll enjoy at Edelweiss 2, located in historic old town Auburn, CA. Let's go back a month, to Saturday, January 06, 2024, when I enjoyed an amazing breakfast of prime ribs and eggs at this fine restaurant... Photo: I saw this ad on Facebook, and I simply couldn't resist passing on an breakfast of prime rib and eggs. Prime rib happens several times a year at Edelweiss 2, and they usually post the event on social media. It's a little after 10 o'clock in the morning, Saturday, January 06, 2024, and I've arrived at Edelweiss 2 to enjoy a breakfast of prime rib and eggs. Photo: The menu is posted outside the restaurant on a door, along with the board that lists daily specials. Edelweiss 2 is open every day of the week for breakfast and lunch, and anything on the menu - or not on the menu - is available anytime the restaurant is open. The sign lists 45 omelettes and 22 sandwiches, but most of them aren't on the menu. Simply ask your server... Photo: Daily specials are posted outside the restaurant. Note that breakfast and lunch is served all day. Besides prime rib, I noted "Loco Moco" was on the menu today, which is truly a rarity in the Gold Country. Photo: The small dining room is a busy place on this mid-Saturday morning in early January, 2024. Hello Ashley and Jessica... I'm on first-name basis with all of the friendly staff. Photo: I noticed that many of the diners were taking advantage of today's special, and enjoying prime rib for breakfast. As an "aside," prime rib isn't cheap, and the breakfast isn't listed on the menu, so before you place your order, you should consider asking your server, since the price of prime rib is "market value" and fluctuates frequently. Photo: I ordered a Heineken beer for an appetizer and Bethany brought it to my table with a smile. Photo: This friendly couple were sitting at the table next to me, and were very interested in my picture taking. They were enjoying one of today's specials... "Loco Moco." Photo: "Loco Moco..." thanks to my gracious neighbor for allowing me to take the photo. "Loco Moco" was a "special" offered on today's menu. If it wasn't for the prime rib, I truly would have been tempted... The menu lists this dish as, "White rice topped with mushroom gravy and two eggs." If you're not familiar with "Loco Moco," it's basically a Hawaiian dish, and very popular in the State of Hawaii for breakfast, especially on weekends. Spam is a very popular meat with the dish, but it always is topped with brown gravy. I came for the prime rib... but "Loco Moco" almost made me think twice! My friendly neighbors simply raved about this delicious dish. Photo: Meet Ashley, my amazingly friendly hostess to brought my breakfast to me with a smile. Like all the staff members at Edelweiss 2, she treated me like a "rock star." The Heineken beer worked wonders for an appetizer... or was it dessert? Where in the world could you find a better breakfast? Prime rib and eggs, served at Edelweiss 2 is the kind of breakfast that makes you want to wake up, rise and shine, and simply SMILE! The food is simply delicious, and as an added touch, the super friendly staff and the rustic dining in old town Auburn add to the dining pleasure... along with the ambiance. Photo: My plate of prime rib, eggs, hash browns, toast and a bowl of gravy on the side. Photo: It's a little past 10 O'clock in the morning, Saturday, October 07, 2023, and I've arrived at Edelweiss 2 restaurant, located in historic old town Auburn to enjoy a breakfast of prime rib. Things worked out great, as I was in Auburn to enjoy a day at the 2023 Auburn Wine, Ale and Food Festival. Yes... I enjoyed public transportation, so there were no worries after I enjoyed a few glasses of wine, and lots of beer and ale... Photo: I'm Facebook "friends" with this fine restaurant, and when I saw this ad posted, I couldn't resist, as I LOVE prime rib and eggs for breakfast! Photo: The restaurant is located in the Gold Rush Plaza building. The complete menu is posted on a door, along with a white board that advertises daily specials and new additions to the menu. If you're looking for prime rib, you have to ask, as its not listed anywhere. Photo: As I expected, I walked into a very busy restaurant on this late Saturday morning. The counter is interesting, as it doesn't have any stools, but has a few small, kind of cramped tables, that make perfect seating for one or two diners. Photo: Meet my hostess Bethany, who seated me, and brought my beer to me with a smile. Interestingly, the counter doesn't offer stools, as there are four small tables, with seating for two diners, located along the counter, and along the side of the dining room. Photo: Edelweiss 2 is an "old school" diner, as it enjoys an order wheel, where orders are relayed to the kitchen, technology that is ... shall we say? ... 1950's? It's all good. My super friendly hostess, Courtney smiles, as she's ready to deliver orders, as prepared by the talented chef in the kitchen. After I enjoyed my meal, I presented the chef my compliments for an outstanding meal, and he graciously offered me his thanks in return. Since I'm "friends" on FB with the restaurant, I saw this amazing event listed, so I made today's breakfast as a start of my day at the 2023 Auburn Wine, Ale and Food Festival. The showcase of this amazing breakfast was a generous cut of prime rib beef, perfectly cooked to medium, as I ordered. The cut was very generous and I'm guessing about 6 ounces or so, which made for a filling main dish. The beef was juicy, flavorful and perfectly grilled, and it was "fork tender." Yes... the beef was so tender that the knife was simply window dressing, as I cut it up by simply using my fork. The cup of horseradish sauce made for perfect dipping... oh my! If you're looking for an amazing weekend breakfast or brunch in the Gold Country, prime rib, served at Edelweiss 2, located in old town Auburn is as good as it gets. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is both historic and priceless. Photo: Prime rib, along with all the sides, and a frosted glass of beer for breakfast. How can life get any better? Photo: It's a little after 10 o'clock in the morning, Friday, September 29, 2023, and I've arrived at Edelweiss Restaurant 2, located in old town Auburn, CA. At 10 in the morning... is it time for breakfast or lunch? What a difficult decision to make. The complete menu at this amazing restaurant is available anytime the restaurant is open, so if you're in the mood for "Fish and Chips" at 07:00 in the morning... you'll get it. The restaurant is located in the Gold Rush Plaza, a old-time building that has been converted into an indoor mall of sorts, in historic old town Auburn. The restaurant is a little hard to see from the street, and parking can be difficult, as this section of town dates from the California Gold Rush. Photo: You enter the Gold Rush Plaza building, and Edelweiss Restaurant 2 is on your right. The restaurant is serious about breakfast, as both breakfast and lunch are offered anytime the restaurant is open. I love the sign, "House of the super Omelettes." Yes!! Edelweiss Restaurant 2 is an interesting operation, and it you're a Auburn local, you'll note there is Edelweiss Restaurant located on High Street, a couple miles to the east. The restaurants are separately owned by two local brothers, and the restaurants share similar menus, but are owned and operated separately. In all my years of dining, I've never seen anything like this before, but what do I know? Check out my dining adventure to Edelweiss Restaurant, back on Friday, January 17, 2017... Photo: The complete menu is posted on the door, outside of the restaurant, looking out to Washington Street. There are printed menus inside, and when you're seated, you'll be given a menu. Edelweiss Restaurant 2 is open for breakfast and lunch, every day of the week. Anything listed on the menu is a available to order any time of the day. Photo: Daily specials and new menu choices are listed on an "old school" white board, outside the restaurant. I couldn't resist "Linguica and Eggs," as it has been a long time since I'd enjoyed this amazing breakfast choice. Photo: As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice the counter, which interestingly doesn't not have any stools, as it's furnished with small tables and chairs. The decor is pure 1960's era diner, and is "old school" in every way. Photo: The dining room is quite compact, with the furniture mostly being tables. The large window looks out to Washington Street, so you can people watch as you enjoy your meal. The brick wall is decorated with mostly photos of Auburn through the years. Photo: Jessica, one of the two hostess working today, seemed a little surprised that I gook her photo after she picked up an order to deliver to a customer. It looks like a breakfast of "Chicken Fried Steak," with fruit instead of toast. The menu offers countless options for your dining pleasure. Photo: I took a look at the chefs in the kitchen, through the pick up window. I never get tired of kitchen photos! Note the "old school" order wheel, which is just like a diner from the 1960's. Edelweiss Restaurant 2 is truly a fine restaurant! Photo: The restaurant has a few souvenir tee shirts for sale, hung on the wall below a shelf decorated with vintage kerosene lamps. Note the blown-out bulb on the ceiling fan; the other ceiling fan also had a blown out bulb. No worries, as the dining room gets plenty of light from the large window. Photo: Meet Jessica, my amazingly friendly hostess who brought my breakfast to me with a smile. She provided outstanding service and treated me like family. Photo: I say "cheers" to Jessica, and I toast Edelweiss Restaurant 2, as I'm ready to enjoy an amazing breakfast. Note the condiment selection includes a bottle of Cholula Mexican hot sauce, which is one of my favorites. Photo: From the white board "Specials" at the entrance to the restaurant, I went with "Linguica and Eggs." Such a difficult decision, as I was actually looking forward to a "Reuben Sandwich," but there was no way I could pass on "Linguica and Eggs" as I hadn't enjoyed this amazing breakfast selection in YEARS. Edelweiss Restaurant 2 gives you a whole linguica sausage, split down the middle, and grilled to perfection, complete with attractive grill marks. The sausage was simply amazing, as it was tender, juicy and seasoned perfectly. Linguica is a staple in California's gold country, as we have a significant population of folks who trace their roots back to Portugal, so it makes sense to enjoy an amazing breakfast of linguica and eggs. and to keep the wonderful Portuguese heritage living in Placer County! The large slab of hash brown potatoes were grilled to a perfect crispy, golden brown on the outside, yet tender and juicy on the inside. Unlike other hash browns, my potatoes today were not greasy or salty at all... simply hash brown potatoes cooked to perfection. When I order hash brown potatoes, I prefer my eggs to be cooked sunnyside up, as they go well with hash browns. My order of eggs arrived as ordered, cooked perfectly sunnyside up. Like the hash brown potatoes, the eggs weren't seasoned - thank you Edelweiss Restaurant 2 - so I applied salt and pepper to my liking. Wonderful! The single piece of sourdough toast - not the word single - was perfectly toasted, buttered, and toasted to perfection. What more can I say? I left the little packages of jelly along, as I simply prefer butter on my toast. The breakfast I enjoyed this Friday morning at Edelweiss Restaurant 2 was simply delicious, as it was cooked perfectly, and I enjoyed the friendly and efficient service of my hostess, Jessica. At $14.95, the breakfast was on the mark, but the surprise was the Heineken beer at only $4.50, which was substantially lower than nearly every other restaurant in the greater Sacramento area. When you're in the mood for a great breakfast... follow the Auburn locals and enjoy a fantastic breakfast at Edelweiss Restaurant 2, located in old town, Auburn, CA. Photo: Linguica sausage, hash brown potatoes, fried eggs and sourdough toast... breakfast doesn't get any better! I absolutely LOVED my breakfast, and the friendly service provided by Jessica. My breakfast was simply delicious, the hospitality was amazing, and the ambience of historic old town Auburn just can't be beat.
