For the past sixteen years Auburn Alehouse has been serving quality craft beer and ale, along with delicious "pub grub" in old town Auburn, CA.  The restaurant and pub has become a destination for locals and tourists alike, thanks to the amazing craft beer, delicious food, and friendly, welcoming staff.

As with all restaurant reviews I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.

Photo:  It's just past the 11:30 morning opening time on Thursday, June 22, 2023, and I've arrived at Auburn Alehouse, located in Auburn, CA, to enjoy a great lunch and a flight of in-house brewed beer.  The brewery and restaurant are located in picturesque and historic old town Auburn, which is truly a Placer County destination.

Photo:  Outside of the entrance, on the sidewalk, you're greeted with a black board which posts the daily specials. The specials change every day, so each day at the brewery is a new adventure.

Photo:  The restaurant and brewery opens every morning at 11:30, and even at opening time, the restaurant was busy.  Over the past 16 years, Auburn Alehouse has achieved a reputation as a "go-to" brewery and pub, among Auburn locals and tourists.

Historic old town Auburn, along with Auburn Alehouse is located just off busy Interstate 80, so the restaurant makes a perfect stop between the Bay Area and Reno, or destinations further east.

Photo:  As you enter the restaurant, you'll be greeted by two friendly hostesses, who will seat you at a table in the dining room, or in the bar.  You'll also notice the souvenirs behind the greeting counter, which might seem a bit commercial, but doesn't every great visit to a restaurant warrant a souvenir or two?

Photo:  Meet today's friendly hostesses who "greeted and seated" me with a friendly smile.  Jenna, on the left and Sam on the right provided amazing service and treated me like a rock star.  Jenna pointed out to me the bar was offering free samples of the "Anniversary Bomb" beer, so thanks to her suggestion, I took advantage of the free sample of beer.

These friendly ladies will meet you, welcome you and seat you at your table.  Like all of the staff at this friendly restaurant, they will treat you like royalty.

Photo:  The dining room is split in two sides by a partition, between the bar and the dining room, and features furniture of tables and booths.  The decoration of the walls is simple, as it's bricks, as the building is a 1800's brick building.  No matter where you're seated, you can see the micro brewery, which is the showcase of the restaurant.

Dining at Auburn Alehouse is casual, comfortable and in a way... quite elegant.  During the past 16 years, the restaurant and brewery has achieved a reputation among Auburn locals, and has become a local hangout for "foodies" who enjoy great food, and quality craft beer.

Photo:  As you walk into the restaurant, look to the left, and you'll see the bar, which is the showplace of the restaurant.  All the beer brewed in-house is on tap - naturally - and you can see the brewery in the background, as you enjoy your beer, or your meal.

Photo:  The menu lists the eight beers that are brewed in-house... This is quality craft beer, any way you look at it! The brews truly reflect the taste of the gold country, and reflects the heritage of Auburn, and Placer County.

This is simply the "top" of the printed menu, as there is a video board in the restaurant, which updates any changes to the beer or the food menu.

Photo:  Bartender John mixes a bloody Mary for another diner.  The bar offers a variety of mixed drinks and wine, along with in the amazing in-house-brewed craft beer that Auburn Alehouse is noted for.

Photo:  "Entrees" is only a part of the menu, as the menu is two pages, and all listings  on the menu are served any time the restaurant is open.

On my visit today, I simply HAD to go for "Fish and Chips..."

Check out the complete menu by clicking on the menu image, or by clicking on THIS LINK.  Anyway you look at it, the food and beer is fantastic at Auburn Alehouse.

Photo:  Looking out the window of the restaurant, which faces Washington Street, you can enjoy the view of the historic Placer County courthouse, erected back in 1898, on top of the hill on Maple Street, which dominates the landscape of old town Auburn.

Photo:  Meet John, my friendly bartender, who delivered my flight of craft beer to me with a smile.  John, like all of the staff at Auburn Alehouse, treated me like family. Such a friendly restaurant and brewery!

Photo:  I'm a happy guy, as I'm ready to fly, thanks to the "flight" of the first four beers listed on the menu.  Each beer is a generous pour of 5-oz of beer, so you get to sample the amazing beer brewed in-house.  You can choose any been on the menu, but I went simple as I chose the first four beers from the top of the menu.

Photo:  I went with a "Flight" of the first four beers on the menu, brewed in-house at Auburn Alehouse.  Since today was my first visit to this amazing brewery/restaurant, I opted to fly and enjoy a flight of the first four beers on the menu.

From left to right... "Whitey's Rusty Spur," which is a classic American lager beer.  Next was "Gold Country Pilsner," a pre-prohibition American pilsner beer.  "Old Town Brown," named after old town Auburn was a chocolate-flavored smooth and "earthy" tasting beer, which simply contrasted to the rest of the flight in a delicious way.  "American River Pale Ale" was the last stop on my "flight," and it made for a perfect west coast pale ale to enjoy on this late Thursday morning.

Photo:  John explains to me the difference between the "15 Year Anniversary Bomb" and the "Hoppy 16 West Coast IPA" beers.  With such amazing beer, how could anybody not simply love it all?

Photo:  My two samples of "16th Anniversary" beer, thanks to my hostess Jenna and bartender John.

"15 Year Anniversary Bomb" on the left, was basically a lager, brewed to perfection, and was simply a perfect micro beer.  On the right was the "Hoppy 16 West Coast IPA" beer, which was full of the robust flavor of hops, and made for the perfect beer to celebrate the 16th anniversary of Auburn Alehouse.

Let's raise a glass and say "Cheers!" so sixteen more years, and many more!

Photo:  Meet amazingly friendly Janessa, who brought my lunch to me with a smile, and treated me like a rock star. She, like all of the staff at Auburn Alehouse, are friendly, efficient, and will treat you like family.

Despite the fact the restaurant was busy, my order arrived about 15 minutes after I placed it, which, in my book, rates for super fast service.  Five star dining in every way!

Photo:  I'm a happy guy, as I sit at the bar and I'm ready enjoy my delicious lunch of "Fish and Chips."  Thanks, Janessa, for snapping my photo upon my request.

Photo:  "Fish and Chips," along with a "flight" of in-house-brewed craft beer, with samples of special beer, brewed for the 16th anniversary of Auburn Alehouse.  Simply an amazing, "pub style" lunch, any way you look at it!

Photo:  From the "Entrees" section of the menu, I went with "Fish and Chips..." how could I resist?

The menu describes "Fish and Chips" as, "Fool's Gold Ale, battered cod, coleslaw, fries, and tartar sauce."  The menu doesn't mention that you get sliced lemon, along with a cup of cocktail sauce.  Friendly hostess Jenna let me know that this is one of the most sought after dishes the restaurant has to offer.

My plate began with three pieces of cod fish, battered with ale, and deep fried to a perfect, medium golden brown. Am I in Auburn or London? ... alright, I confess that I have never had the privilege to visit the United Kingdom, but the fish and chips I enjoyed today I imagine would be something like you'd enjoy on the streets of London.  The batter was crispy delicious on the outside, and the lightly seasoned cod filets were juicy, white and tender on the inside.  Each bite was rewarded with the contrast of the crunchy batter on the outside, and the delicious, tender meat on the inside, which made each bite a taste sensation and made for a perfect lunch.

The "chips..." or should I say fries?  ... were simply perfect.  They were cut to a medium size and deep fried to a light golden brown, with the perfect crispy "crunch" on the outside, yet tender, white and flavorful on the inside.

The good size helping of coleslaw added lots of "pizzzazzz" to my meal, especially when I squeezed the juice of the lemon slices on it.  I enjoyed lots of diced cabbage - green and purple - diced carrot, along with the simple "tang" of coleslaw.  It made a really good addition to this amazing lunch.

Are you interested in enjoying a lunch of "Fish and Chips" at Auburn Alehouse?  The fish was perfectly fried, with golden brown, light, crispy batter on the outside, and moist, juicy white fish on the inside.  The chips were deep fried perfectly and the coleslaw added a lot of taste, with a contrast to the fish and fries, and a welcome side to this amazing lunch.  The meal was complete with the cups of tartar sauce and ketchup.  A bottle of malt vinegar was provided, but the fish and chips were so delicious that the bottle of vinegar was simply "window dressing."

My lunch could be simply describe in a single word: Delicious!

Auburn Alehouse could maybe become my favorite restaurant in Auburn?

Come to Auburn Alehouse for the beer, relax and enjoy the friendly atmosphere, but stay for the food, as there is no better "pub grub" to be found in Placer County.  No wonder Auburn Alehouse has achieved icon status among Auburn locals!  Outstanding beer, great food and friendly service... Auburn Alehouse covers it all, located in historic old town Auburn, CA.
