Sierra Pines Resort is located at the foot of the majestic Sierra Buttes, and offers rustic lodging, great dining and amazing scenery as the resort located on the banks of the Yuba River in Sierra City, CA.  Whatever your interest, whether it's relaxing, enjoying the beautiful mountain scenery, fly fishing or even playing cornhole or horse shoes, you'll enjoy your stay.  Better yet, catch a trout from their fully-stocked fish pond with no limit and no license required.  Talk about fresh fish!  Sierra Pines Resort has your relaxation covered!

Photo:  Sierra Pines Resort is located at the west end of Sierra City, CA, a small mountain town in Sierra County, CA, located in the northern end of the gold country.

Back in the 1850's, Sierra City boasted a population of around 5,000 or so, thanks to GOLD... but today, the population is around 250 and the economy is now based on tourism.  If you love mountain scenery and the great outdoors, there are endless outdoor recreational activities in the area, and Sierra Pines Resort makes for the ideal base.

Note the large tree growing out of the building, which grows right through the lobby of the motel and the restaurant.

I was fortunate to enjoy two nights at this fine resort, Thursday, September 12th and Friday, September 13, 2024.

Photo:  I stayed in #11, a "Riverview" cabin, which is perched on a bluff overlooking the North Fork of the Yuba River.  I enjoyed complete solitude and was lulled to sleep every night by the soothing sounds of the river.  The resort offers around a thousand feet of private beach access to the river, complete with trails and picnic tables.

Photo:  My "Riverview" room #11, complete with a private balcony with a fantastic view of the North Fork of the Yuba River.  All rooms at the resort are rustic and all rooms offer a private balcony, with a view of the river or the Sierra Buttes.

Amenities include private balcony, coffee, mini-fridge, microwave, hot shower - duh - and lots more.  The satellite television has just a few channels, so you're out of luck should you want to catch your latest heartthrob on MSNBC or other so-called "mainstream" media.  Don't look for air conditioning, room service or a telephone, as this is a rustic, getaway type of place to enjoy and relax.  I didn't even turn on the tv, as I preferred the view of the river.

Photo:  Thursday evening, after checking in and getting settled, I raise a glass of beer and say "Cheers!" to the friendly staff along with the great mountain scenery.  The trout pond is a great place to relax, and enjoy the good life.

Photo:  The resort offers a fish food dispenser, and for the price of a quarter, you can get a couple handfuls of fish food, which is guaranteed to cause a feeding frenzy among the inmates of the trout pond.  This trout feeder seems really focused on the task at hand... getting fish food out of the dispenser.

Photo:  This gentleman threw a handful of trout food into the pond and caused an immediate feeding frenzy among the thousands of trout, who call this pond home.

Photo:  Are you interest in catching a trout, with no limit or strings attached?  Cleaning, icing and packaging is included with the price.

Photo:  The resort's trout pond, patio and outdoor dining offer a great view of the scenic Sierra Buttes.  Talk about a view!

Photo:  Thursday evening, September 12, 2024 finds the patio busy with outdoor dining.  It was a fine evening to enjoy dinner outdoors, as the temperature by early evening was still in the mid 70-degree range.

Photo:  In the evening, the resort and the trout pond are beautify illuminated, which makes it a pleasure to enjoy the beautiful evening outside, relaxing by the trout pond.

Photo:  At Sierra City Restaurant and Bar, you are guaranteed fresh trout, as trout are netted from the pond to serve for breakfast and dinner.  Larry the fish catcher has just netted a trout from the pond, which most likely will make for someone's dinner tonight.

The restaurant maintains a small space located behind the kitchen that offers a workspace, sink and fridge and is used to clean and prepare the fish for the restaurant.  If you catch a fish from the pond, Larry will clean it, ice it and package it, which is included in the price of fishing.  Sierra Pines Resort makes trout fishing easy!

Photo:  The inside of the dining room is rustic, comfortable and offers a fireplace, which adds cheery warmth during the cold, snowy winter weather.  The restaurant is open daily for breakfast and dinner May through October, and is open for limited hours during the winter.

Friday morning, September 13, 2024, I enjoyed a breakfast of trout, potatoes, eggs and toast... with the fresh Rainbow Trout netted from the trout pond. What a delicious breakfast!

Photo:  Take a half mile hike into town, and you'll enjoy amazing breakfast at Red Moose Cafe, located in downtown Sierra City, CA.  Steve and his friendly staff serve delicious mountain cuisine and will treat you like family.  I enjoyed a "Mega Moose" breakfast on Saturday morning, September 14, 2024 at Red Moose Cafe.

I absolutely enjoyed EVERYTHING about the short couple of nights I stayed at this friendly resort, and I can't wait to come back again.  Hosts Glen and Cindy will treat you like family, and you'll enjoy amazing hospitality, the full service bar, great mountain cuisine, and their fish pond, stocked with thousands of Rainbow Trout.  Cheers!
