Saturday, June 27, 2015, I was staying at the A-1 Budget Motel, on the north side of Klamath Falls, Oregon. I will not chronicle my stay at the motel, but it was a dismal experience, to say the least. However, around 1815 in the early evening, I was sitting outside my motel room, drinking beer, and wondering what I was going to do for dinner. I looked across the highway, U.S. 97 at America's Best Value Inn & Suites - where I should have stayed - and noted a taco truck, very much in business. Dinner question was solved! Photo: The "King of Tacos" reigns in Klamath Falls, Oregon. El Rey Del Taco sets up shop Monday through Saturday in the parking lot of the America's Best Value Inn and Suites, with the blessing of the motel. The location is 3939 U.S. Highway 97 on the north side of Klamath Falls. El Rey is at the location from about 11:00 in the morning, until around 18:30 in the evening. Beware, as their hours vary! I strolled across the highway, and hit El Rey about 1815, as they were in the process of closing for the day. My timing worked, as if I'd been just a few minutes later, I would have missed tonight's enjoyable dining adventure. Photo: The menu is posted on the side of the truck, and I absolute LOVE "low tech" menus like this! From the menu, I ordered a "Combo," which included two tacos, rice and beans. I opted to upgrade to tripas for my meat, and since I was starving, to add an extra taco, which upped the ante to a very reasonable $9.00 for a delicious and filling meal. Photo: I peeked inside the taco truck, as Emilio and Estefan were preparing my dinner, and snapped a quick photo. Photo: Estefan smiles, as he presents my dinner. Thanks, guys for the friendly service! Thanks for the photos! Although not expected, I left a generous tip to reward my friendly hosts. Note the "low-tech" signs attached to the truck, that spell out the need for cash. Tijuana in Klamath Falls? Tal vez... Photo: Mmmmmm... It's 18:30 on Saturday, June 27, 2015 in Klamath Falls, Oregon, and I'm ready to enjoy a delicious Mexican combination dinner, prepared by the outstanding taco truck of El Rey Del Taco. Photo: My "Combo Dinner" of rice, beans and tacos. For extra cash, I added a third taco, and upgraded the meat to tripas. Just in case you're not familiar with tripas, well, that's fried trip. I ordered the tacos garnished with everything, and they were garnished well. At $9.00, this meal was a bargain, and it was delicious! Photo: Close-up of my three tacos de tripas. Note that each taco contains two corn tortillas, just like in Mexico. If I closed my eyes and bit into these delicious tacos, I would have thought I was in Tijuana, rather than Klamath Falls. Delicious tacos!!! El Rey Del Taco makes delicious tacos, rice and beans, at a very fair price. I'm glad that I was able to catch their truck, just as they were about ready to close.
