When you're hiking in downtown Llera de Canales, and you're in the mood for the Mexican version of a smoothie, you owe it to yourself to pay a visit to La Michoacana, on the corner of Calles Hidalgo and Mendez, across from the city park and the town square.

Photo:  La Michoacana is open to the street on three sides, and the business is located at the corner of Calle Hidalgo and C. Mendez, the beautiful Llera de Canales.  It's early Friday afternoon, September 29, 2006, and we're ready to enjoy a treat!

As you enter the store, you'll immediately be greeted by one of the two friendly ladies that work behind the counter. You'll also notice that the place is very colorful inside, in keeping with the "fruity" theme they promote, and you'll notice colorful drawings of their various wares painted on the walls.  Besides any variety of agua that you can imagine, La Michoacana sells in-store made churros, bagged snacks, soft drinks, eskimales, jugos, chocolates, nieves, and helados.  If it's a jugo or a agua you're after, one of the smiling ladies will combine the ingredients and mix it before your eyes.  Believe me, on a warm early fall morning, an agua really hits the spot!

Photo:  The two friendly ladies that work at the business pose at the counter, as they're in the process of preparing our delicious aguas.

Rodolfo wasn't thirsty, but Jerry and I were ready for one of the jugos de naranja, which is basically orange juice, a small amount of cream, and shaved ice, all whirled together in a blender.  At the price of MEX $8.00, you can afford to drink them all day.  Besides the delicious drinks, you can't help enjoying conversation with the friendly ladies that operate the restaurant, if you want to give the business that title.

Photo:  How can I resist not to snap a digital photo at a pensive moment like this?

Photo:  Left to right... the ladies working the restaurant behind the counter, their menu, posted on the wall, Rodolfo chatting with them, and Jerry, admiring the whole scene, while enjoying a delicious agua.  Me:  Sweating behind the camera and taking lots of digital photos, while my smoothie rested on the counter to the left.

The aguas are delicious, the prices are very reasonable, and the women are very talkative and friendly.  Stop by and treat yourself to one of their delicious offerings the next time you visit the small town of Llera de Canales, Tamulipas, Mexico.
