It's been over a year since we've had the pleasure to visit Chewy's, and it had been a few months since we'd seen our friends Teri and Joan, so we decided to combine two good things, and enjoy good food, and great company at Chewy's.

Photo:  Chewy's is located in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento, and as of this writing, is open for breakfast and lunch, but has plans to expand to dinner next month.  It's 11:30 in the morning, on Friday, February 26, 2016, and we're planning to meet a couple of friends for lunch.

Photo:  On this late Friday morning, the dining room is about half full, but by the time noon approached, the dining room was full, and there diners sitting in the waiting room, waiting to be seated at a table.  The dining room is a mixture of tables and booths, and features rustic decor.  In case you wondered, this is a sit-down restaurant, and you're waited on during your entire dining experience.

Photo:  Chewy's features an open kitchen, where you can watch the talented staff prepare you meal.  Chewy's is a unique restaurant, and it's a one-of-a-kind.

Photo:  Our friendly server, Blanca, brings my "Hot Pastrami Sandwich" to our table, along with Teri's "Bacon and Cheese Burrito," as Joan and Teri look on.  We loved the knife sticking up, directly from the middle of the burrito. Blanca was very friendly, and very efficient, especially considering how busy the restaurant came, at the time our orders arrived.

At this writing, Chewy's is open for breakfast and lunch, but has plans to expand to dinner next month.  A link to their easy-to-navigate web site is at the end of this article, so you can get a peek at their extensive menu.

Photo:  Sharlene's choice for today's lunch was a "Chicken Burrito," which included chicken, rice, beans - black beans upon her request - cheddar cheese and sour cream.  Fresh tortilla chips and salsa - not shown - were included with the burrito.  It came wrapped in a huge, in-house-made flour tortilla.  As an aside, the tortilla press is located on the counter of the open kitchen, so you're able to watch your tortilla being pressed, and cooked... that's a nice touch!  Later, we flagged down Blanca, and Sharlene ordered a side of guacamole, which rounded out the lunch.  Sharlene had already cut the burrito in two by the time I was able to snap the photo.

Photo:  Teri's "Bacon and Cheese Breakfast Burrito."  Like Sharlene's burrito, it came wrapped in a fresh flour tortilla, filled with bacon, cheese, and country potatoes.  It also comes with a cup of salsa, and you get three choices:  Fresh salsa, roasted tomato salsa, or Ranchero sauce.  Teri chose the roasted tomato salsa, which would have been my choice, had I ordered a breakfast burrito.

Photo:  Joan's breakfast of "French Toast," which included four halves of cinnamon brioche bread, dipped in egg batter, and topped with melted butter, and powdered sugar.

Photo:  Normally, I'm not one to miss breakfast, but since I'd been up since 5 o'clock, and I'd eaten breakfast at home hours before, I decided to go with an item from the Sandwich side of the Lunch menu.  I went with the "Hot Pastrami Sandwich," which is topped with lettuce and tomato.  For only $1.50 extra, I ordered an order of steak fries, as a side dish.  I love the dill pickle included with the sandwich!

Like everything I've enjoyed in a previous visit to Chewy's, the sandwich was delicious, juicy, included a lot of thin-sliced pastrami, and was just plain delicious.  I love steak fries, deep-fried to a golden brown on the outside, yet moist and chewy - no pun intended - on the inside.  I thank Chewy's for not over-salting the fries, as I'm salt sensitive.  All in all, a delicious lunch, at a price at least $2.00 below the competition, including national chains.

Photo:  Thanks, Blanca, for taking our photo.  From left to right, Joan Barden, Teri McCloud, Sharlene Rench, and your author and webmaster, Eric Rench.  At this writing, we've been friends with Joan and Teri for nearly six years, as Teri and I used to work together before I retired.

Chewy's dishes out delicious food, served by friendly people, at unbelievably low prices.  As their mission states, "Lots of food, always fresh," and that is certainly a true statement.  When you're in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento, I highly recommend you pay a visit to Chewy's.  You'll be glad you did.
