Holbrook isn't known as a "destination for foodies," and if you're looking for a mainstream, diner, that specializes in American "comfort food," your choices are quite limited in Holbrook. However, if you're looking for classic diner cuisine, look no further than Tom and Suzie's Diner, in downtown Holbrook. Photo: Tom and Suzie's Diner has a deal with the America's Best Value Inn, when you stay at the neighboring motel, as part of your stay at the motel, you get a "Voucher" breakfast; menu will be shown in another photo. When I'm on a road trip, I rarely eat at the same restaurant twice, but since I was staying two nights in Holbrook and had two breakfast coming my way, I enjoyed breakfast at Tom and Suzies on May 1st, and May 2nd, 2014. Photo: The main dining room is very typical of a comfortable, American diner. Such restaurants are a bit difficult to locate, as the majority of the restaurants are fast food, Mexican, New Mexico, or Navajo cuisine. Note the aquarium with goldfish in the center of the photo. Photo: I arrived shortly after the restaurant opened at 0600, and these guys seemed to be happy to see me. The dinner menu has fish, and I joked with the staff that their fish is as fresh as it gets, as it just comes from the aquarium, located in the middle of the restaurant. Photo: The "Voucher Breakfast" menu of the choices you get when you check into the motel. This menu is at the motel desk - they give you a blue coupon to present to the restaurant - and it's the same menu offered to "Voucher Breakfast" diners. Note that coffee is included with the "Voucher Breakfast," but anything else will cost you. Hey, that makes sense, as who would want anything but coffee with breakfast? Well, if I wasn't driving, a Bloody Mary would hit the spot, but I digress. So, I took the "easy" road, as my first breakfast was a "1," and my second breakfast was a "2." Actually, the third and fourth choices aren't exactly at the top of my list for breakfast favorites. Menudo would have been welcome... Photo: The kitchen is visible from the dining room through a large window where the orders are placed. When the meal is ready, the chef places it on the counter, rings the bell, and the wait staff picks it up, and delivers it to your table. Photo: On both mornings, I was treated to the friendly service of Mandy, who cheerfully put up with my photos, kept my coffee cup full, made lots of small-talk, and delivered delicious food to my table. Photo: Thursday, May 01, 2014, I started at the top of the "Voucher Breakfast" menu and ordered a "1," which known as a "Country Trio." You get two eggs, cooked your way, two links of sausage, two pancakes, syrup, butter, and a bottomless cup of coffee. Such a deal! On both days, I tipped friendly Mandy $2.00, for great service, and delicious food. Photo: No, I'm not asleep, but the flash of the camera seems to have caught me with my eyes closed, as I enjoy a "Southern Trio" breakfast. Photo: Number 2 on the menu, a "Southern Trio," is my breakfast of choice on Friday, May 2, 2014. Two eggs over easy, biscuits and gravy, along with two links of sausage round out this delicious breakfast. I love diner cuisine at Tom and Suzie's Diner! Classic American diner cuisine, and the price was right, as it was part of the package offered at the nearby motel.
