Family owned and operated, fresh, delicious sushi, served by very friendly staff, and a full menu page of sushi rolls that are ALWAYS priced at 50% off... there is everything to love about Yoko Sushi Japanese Restaurant in Roseville! Photo: Yoko Sushi is located in an office/shopping strip mall, in a separate location, at the far west end of the shopping center, near busy Sunrise Blvd. The location is a tad obscure, and the electrical meters on front wall don't exactly shout "curb appeal!" ... but the beautiful interior of the restaurant is another story. In all honesty, I had never even heard of this wonderful restaurant, until I stumbled upon it, quite by accident, after suffering through a very dismal dining experience at nearby Parker's Hot Dogs. Note the banner that announces "50% Off Special Rolls" ... usually advertising banners don't work on me, but this one did! Photo: As soon as you enter the restaurant, you'll notice the bar - sushi counter - and the chef and owner of the restaurant, Don, greeting you with a smile, and inviting you to sit anywhere you choose. Yes, the plants are real! I love the Japanese lanterns that provide soft, cozy, illumination, and seem to make your dining experience even better. Photo: The dining room is spacious, beautifully decorated, and so clean that it shines! The plants are real, the illumination is subdued, and the restaurant receives a lot of soft, natural light from the windows. What a contrast this beautiful interior is to the somewhat shabby exterior! The only thing I found a little odd was the low partition that oddly divided the room. It's just after opening time, 11:00 in the morning on Monday, March 07, 2016, and I'm the first customer in the restaurant on this Monday morning. Photo: When I dine alone, I prefer to sit at the bar, as I feel more comfortable, and I'm able to watch the staff in action, and if they're not really busy, I can usually make a lot of small talk. Yoko Sushi Japanese Restaurant has a comfortable bar, at the sushi counter, where you can see many of the fresh ingredients, and watch the staff prepare your sushi rolls. Other items on the menu are prepared in the kitchen, located behind the wall. The sushi bar includes menus, and each place is already set with napkins, chop sticks, and two small bottles of soy sauce. Don, co-owner of the restaurant, and sushi chef - his wife handles the kitchen duties - is making the "Happy Roll" of sushi that I ordered, from the 50% menu. Photo: It only took Chef Don about ten minutes to prepare my lunch of "Happy Roll." It was a lot of fun to sit at the counter, and watch him chop, stir, roll, in a truly choreographed manner. Making a sushi roll is truly a culinary art, and Don is a master of his trade, and he's a nice guy. I suggested he just hand the plate to me, as I was sitting on the other side of the counter from his work area, and I thought I'd save him a few steps. Note the wide variety of beer, both regular and large sizes, sold at the restaurant. Alas, I was driving, so I settled for ice water with my lunch. Photo: I asked Don to snap my photo, as I'm ready to enjoy a delicious sushi "Happy Roll" for lunch. You get a good view of the comfortable dining room in the background of the photo. Photo: From the half-price page of the menu, which offers about a dozen choices, I ordered the "Happy Roll," priced at $6.95, which, considering the costly ingredients, and sushi is very labor-intensive, makes this delicious entree a real bargain. "Happy Roll" features crab, avocado, avocado with salmon, sliced lemon, and of course rice, and all of the condiments. Chef Don asked me if I wanted some extra salmon on the side, along with a dollop of wasabi - which is Japanese horseradish - and I said, "Sign me up!" Note the beautiful presentation... The meal tasted every bit as good as it looked! Photo: I couldn't resist a close-up photo of this delicious "Happy Roll." I compliment Chef Don on his talent and skill, and thanked him for his friendly hospitality. The "Happy Roll" was fantastic, as it was made from amazingly fresh ingredients, skillfully prepared, with a beautiful presentation. Each ingredient was a stand-alone champion, but when you took a bite of the roll, each ingredient stood out, yet each ingredient complimented each other, and blended together to make the perfect sushi roll. You can't beat the page of half-priced sushi rolls, and you can't beat the quality, the quantity, and the talent that makes Yoko Sushi's rolls not only an outstanding sushi value, but a tasty, delicious roll. Yoko Sushi Japanese Restaurant is definitely a "go-to" restaurant for quality Japanese cuisine in Roseville. Yoko Sushi Japanese Restaurant Copyright(c) 2016 eRench Productions. All rights reserved.
