Take a "foodie" trip to the Mediterranean without leaving Roseville! Delicious Greek and Turkish-insipred cuisine, served by friendly staff at Jayna Gyro, located in Roseville, CA. As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences. Photo: It's a little past the 10:30 morning opening time, Friday, September 06, 2024, and I've arrived at Jayna Gyro to enjoy a delicious Mediterranean lunch. This fine restaurant is located in The Ridge at Creekside shopping center, across from the Westside Galleria of Roseville, in Roseville, CA. Does this building look familiar? You may remember it as Shawarma Stackz, which was noted for serving Mediterranean "street food." I paid a visit back on Saturday, February 12, 2022. Click on the hyperlink to enjoy my visit to Shawarma. Photo: As you enter the restaurant, the first thing you'll notice is the wine selection and the beer on tap. Photo: Jessica pours my Track 7 lager from the tap, as the chef offers his insight into the operation. I ordered beer from the tap before placing my food order, as I always have to go with first things first. Photo: The large dining room is large and comfortable, and except from a minor facelift and new paint, it's virtually unchanged since the days of Shawarma Stackz. The restaurant operates on what I call the "taqueria format," in that the menu is placed above the order counter. You make your selection from the menu, pay for it and in return, you'll receive a number. You then seat yourself at any available seat of your liking and when your order is ready, it will be brought to your table by a friendly staff member. This is a sort of hybrid between fast food and sit down dining, and this format is very common in taquerias. Photo: The menu features many of your Greek favorites, along with a few entrees with Turkish influence. You can order in person, online or by phone, and you can dine in or takeout... your choice. I ALWAYS prefer to dine in, as I love the total restaurant experience. Photo: The restaurant features an open kitchen, where you can watch the talented staff prepare your order. Photo: Chicken, and beef are cooked separately on vertical rotisseries, which is truly authentic in the cuisine of Greece. Note how juicy the meat is... next visit I'll certainly order chicken. Photo: The chef uses an electric knife to cut of slices of grilled chicken from the vertical rotisserie. Photo: My super friendly host, Demetri, brings a plate of "Dip Trio," along with grilled pita bread and marinated olives. Fellow "foodies," this is truly a great APPETIZER! Photo: From the "Dips" section of the menu, I went with "Dip Trio," which includes hummus, baba ghanoush, tzatziki, marinated olives along with grilled, sliced pita bread. This amazing trio gives you a sample of some of the best dips in the cuisine of Greece on this side of Athens. Oh... don't forget the marinated olives, which added a salty touch, and added an amazing contrast to the smooth, creamy dips. Note the beautiful presentation on the wood board. Talk about an amazing appetizer which could be a meal! The creamy humus was served with chopped pine nuts and topped with paprika oil, which added flavor and a lot of class to the amazing dip. I could eat this dip just by itself, as it was stand-alone delicious, and made for an absolute delicacy when topping a slice of the fresh pita bread. Baba ghanoush was new to me, but my host explained to my not-so-Greek ears that it was charred eggplant with labneth cheese, Greek spices, and topped with olive oil. Thanks to the eggplant, it's slight chunky, but had such an amazing taste and texture. Oh yeah! Tzatziki is very common in Mediterranean cuisine, and it goes with just about anything served Mediterranean, and it's stand-alone delicious. Tazatiki is Greek yogurt, with finely diced cucumber, seasoning, mint, and dill. Today, my serving of tzatziki was sprinkled with a line of dill, which added to the dramatic presentation. The grilled pita bread was freshly baked in Jayna Gyro's kitchen, and it made for perfect dipping into the trio of Greek dips. I alternated between the delicious dips by scooping a couple of spoonfuls on dip on a slice of pita bread, then another slice of pita bread and another spoonful or two of another dip, and so on. In between munching on the pita bread and dip, I enjoyed the delicious olives, which added a slightly salty contrast to the smooth, creamy dips. The "Dip Trio" along with the sliced pita bread made an amazing appetizer! Photo: I enjoyed a couple small spoonfuls of baba ghanoush on a slice of pita bread... oh my! ... is there anything better? I alternated between all three dips... talk about being in Mediterranean heaven! Photo: I went with a pint of Track 7 "Lager Beer," a very "hoppy" smooth lager beer brewed in nearby Sacramento. Such a great, smooth, craft lager beer, and a joy for all who love a solid, "hoppy" lager beer. I also simply had to try a glass of "Jayna's Lemonade," which I'd head great things about. The lemonade was served in a frosted glass, with ice cubes and garnished with slices on lemon and lime, along with a couple sprigs of mint. I will tell the entire word that this is the BEST lemonade that I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy! When you visit Jayna Gyro, a glass of their lemonade is a must-order. Photo: Meet the owner of the restaurant, Demetri Gregorakis, and my amazingly friendly host, who brought my "Lamb Burger" to me, along with an order of "Greek Fries" with a smile. During my visit, Demetri treated me like a rock star. Photo: I toast my host Demetri, along with the rest of the friendly staff at Jayna Gyro, as I get ready to enjoy an amazing lunch. Yes, I ate everything you see in the photo. Cheers! Photo: From the "Burgers" section of the menu, I went with a "Lamb Burger" along with an option side of "Greek Fries." Surprise! ... the order arrived with a small, rather spicy chili pepper, along with a cup of creamy aioli, which made the perfect dip for the fries. The burger began with a large patty - around 6 oz - of seasoned, marinated ground lamb, grilled medium-rare - just the way I like it - to absolute perfection. Today was a milestone event in my life, as it was the first time EVER I'd enjoyed a lamb burger patty, and I must say I was instantly hooked on this delicious meat patty. The burger was super tender and juicy, flavorful, and amazingly delicious. One bite into the burger and I was rewarded with a juicy, "lammie" taste sensation. Speaking of lamb, the meat has a tendency to have a very strong flavor - which I love - but this delicious lamb burger patty definitely had the taste of lamb, but it wasn't overpowering, as it was simply delicious. The juicy lamb patty was sandwiched between a fresh, house made brioche sesame bun, and garnished with carmalized onion and red bell pepper, fresh, fancy lettuce, spicy creole mustard, arugula and topped with a melted slab of feta cheese. One bite into this amazing burger... wow! This wasn't your daddy's diner burger, as this was a "Lamb Burger" with a unique taste all of it's own! The meat, veggies and cheese all worked together to create a sensational, unique burger, and the fresh brioche bun held it all together and added to the amazing goodness. The delicious "Greek Fries" made for the perfect side for this amazing burger. Like the burger, today was a first for me to enjoy fries, deep fried Greek style, and I truly was impressed. The fries were potatoes, cut into small cubes, deep fried to a golden brown, sprinkled with oregano, lemon, paprika, salt and pepper. A small cup of aioli was included, which made for an amazing contrast between the warm potato, and the cool, creamy dip of the smooth aioli. I'm a believer in "Greek Fries!" Calling all "foodies" and burger lovers... you simply MUST order one of these amazing burgers, for a unique, delicious taste in burgers... and a burger that will make your day! Add a side of Greek fries, and your lunch will make your entire week! Simply amazing... as I enjoyed a trip to Greece without leaving Roseville. Photo: I cut my "Lamb Burger" in two, so I could see off of the layers of goodness. Such a delicious burger! When you combine a superior burger with a side of "Greek Potatoes," and a small cup of aioli for dipping, you're talking about the perfect lunch! Photo: "Pistachio Baklava" for dessert today, which is rare for me, but I simply couldn't resist this amazing treat. Simply delicious, as the finely chopped pistachios and walnuts were drenched in honey and syrup, and sandwiched between delicious dough. The dough was sweet with a bit of crisp on the outside, and tender on the inside, which made for a perfect baklava and the perfect end to this delicious lunch. The authentic Greek cuisine served at Jayna Gyro is simply amazing! Not only was the food delicious and fresh, but the presentation was simply beautiful, thanks to the friendly and attentive staff. I must admit this fine restaurant serves some of the best Greek cuisine you ever enjoy in western Placer County! If you're a connoisseur of fine Greek cuisine, you've found your go-to restaurant.
