Roseville is home to Denny's Restaurant #8023, a link in the national chain of over 1500 restaurants, that has been been serving no-frills diner cuisine since 1953. Seventy years and going strong! As with all restaurant reviews I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences. Photo: The Roseville, CA location of Denny's is known officially as Denny's Restaurant #8023, and is located on Sunrise Ave, near busy Douglas Blvd, just off Interstate 80. It's around 06:40 in the morning, Wednesday, July 19, 2023, and I'm here to enjoy a great breakfast. Like most restaurants in the Denny's chain, the Roseville location is open 24/7/365 and offers classic American diner cuisine. You may recognize the building as a former Denny's Diner, but after a extensive remodeling last year, the "diner" name was dropped and now it's simply Denny's Restaurant. It looks like the food truck is delivering supplies to the restaurant on this early Wednesday morning. Photo: As you'll enter the restaurant, you'll be greeted and seated by one of the staff. Since I was dining by myself, I asked to be seated at the counter, which seats about eight guests. Photo: The restaurant is a Denny's, and it's a no-frills diner, and offers classic diner atmosphere and classic diner accommodations. The counter faces the window to the kitchen, tables are in the middle of the dining room, and booths line the windows. Natural lighting is great, as the restaurant features expansive windows. Both the main dining room, and the side dining room are expansive, as the total seating of the restaurant is listed at 177. Photo: Classic diner atmosphere and decor. The dining room is expansive, and very comfortable. On this early Wednesday morning the restaurant was lightly seated, but I've driven by to see both the restaurant and the parking lot nearly full. I loved the layout of the dining room, and the large, expansive windows which offered natural lighting. Photo: The "Signature Breakfasts" page of the extensive breakfast menu. Since the restaurant is a diner, and open 24/7, breakfast is a mainstay of the menu. I started at the top, and went with a "Classic Benny Breakfast." Photo: My seat at the counter, and every table, was set with a selection of condiments which included Cholula hot sauce, which in my "foodie" opinion, is one of the best Mexican hot sauces on the planet. It was interesting to note the on-table condiments included a bottle of maple syrup, which proves Denny's Restaurant is serious about breakfast. Photo: My host ,Paul works the juice machine, on a to-go order. The table in the foreground is the pickup table, where web and phone orders are picked up by customer, who order by phone or online. It amazed me at this hour how many people order to-go. I guess I'm getting old, as I prefer to dine in the restaurant. Paul was friendly, offered good service, but refused to have his photo taken, as he stated he "didn't feel comfortable." I asked the hostess to pose with my food for my camera and she refused. Looks like I won't be returning... Photo: I'm ready to enjoy my "Classic Benny Breakfast" at Denny's Restaurant, located in Roseville, CA. Photo: From the "Signature Breakfasts" section of the menu, I started at the top, and went with "Classic Benny Breakfast," as I hadn't enjoyed a breakfast of "Eggs Benedict" in a long time. The menu describes the dish as, "Toasted English muffin topped with ham, over medium eggs, and Hollandaise sauce. Served with hash browns." That pretty much says it all, as "Eggs Benedict" is a classic, American "comfort food" which is the staple of the menu an any Denny's Restaurant. The benedict began with a lightly toasted English muffin, with a grilled slice of ham placed on top. The ham was about a quarter inch thick, grilled, juicy and fork-tender. Each "Benny" had a fried egg on top of the ham, cooked medium, as per the menu. A generous amount of cheesy Hollandaise sauce was placed on top of the "Benny" to top it off, and add flavor, and the signature that a breakfast of "Eggs Benedict" is noted for. Denny's doesn't skimp on the hash brown potatoes, as my breakfast included a generous slab of hash browns, which could have almost made for a standalone complete breakfast. The hash browns were truly fried to a dark, crusty brown on the outside, yet white and reasonably tender on the inside. Unfortunately, thanks to the excessive time on the griddle, the hash browns were way overdone, crusty, and quite tasteless. Also... way too much salt for my taste! Thanks to the handy bottle of Cholula hot sauce, the hash browns worked with my breakfast. I truly enjoyed the "Eggs Benedicts," part of the breakfast, as they were a great, solid breakfast choice. I was disappointed in the hash browns due to the fact they were overcooked and too salty, which rendered them nearly tasteless. I was also disappointed in the staff refusing allow their photos to be taken, which is always a cornerstone of any restaurant article I publish. My breakfast this Wednesday morning held no surprises, as it was exactly what you've come to expect at Denny's Restaurant during the last 70 years: Classic diner cuisine, good, hearty and filling. The food was great, but the camera-shy staff made me come away with a bad taste in my mouth, and it is unlikely that I'll pay a future visit to this restaurant.
