Small town hospitality, fresh, in-house pastries, bagels and treats... along with a restaurant that offers tempting smoothies, sandwiches, wraps, salads, biscuit and gravy... and more... We're talking about The Wrecking Crew Bakery and Cafe, located on North Main St. in downtown Colfax, CA. As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences. Photo: It's 07:30 in the morning, Tuesday, August 04, 2026, and I've arrived at The Wrecking Crew Cafe and Bakery, located on North Main Street in Colfax, CA, to enjoy a "Bagel Bomb," along with the friendly company of the congenial staff. It's a great Tuesday morning to enjoy a delicious restaurant at this fine bakery/cafe. Colfax, CA is a small town, and a frequent stopping point for freight trains, and nowhere in town is very far from the tracks, especially Main Street. Railroad crews are frequent customers of this fine restaurant, as they have great taste. Photo: Sidewalk sign that advertises the fine restaurant and bakery as the "Home of the World Famous Bagel Bombs." That's what I came to enjoy... Photo: Inside, the atmosphere is rustic, comfortable and truly welcoming. Like many Bohemian coffee houses, there is comfortable furniture for relaxation, along with tables and chairs for serious eating. The focal point of the room is the long counter, with the pastry display case at the end. Simply walking into this friendly dining room makes you want to order something, sit down, relax and enjoy life, food and good times. Despite the fact the bakery/cafe opened in 2023, this is truly an old school operation, in a historic building, and I couldn't find a computer or tablet in sight. The cafe/bakery's menu is a printed, to-go version, or you can simply ask the staff the price of something that strikes your fancy. Oh... what's that hi-def television monitor doing there? Photo: Brittney, the head baker is helping a customer at the counter, who looks like a local worker stopping by for a fine breakfast. Note the pastry counter, which is the focal point of the dining room. Photo: The food menu lists all of the goodness the bakery, and the cafe offer for breakfast and lunch. Drinks are listed on the other side of the menu. The menu is printed, and serves as a to-go menu, and the menu inside the baker/cafe. Photo: I took a peek inside the kitchen to photo Brittney, the head baker, as she skillfully crafts another "Bagel Bomb." Photo: The lineup of "Bagel Bombs," which is the house specialty, freshly baked, are kept warm in the display case. The bakery offers several varieties of this amazing entree, and I settled on the "Bacon, Egg Jalapeno." Photo: Meet super friendly Carolyn, who greets me with a smile as she places a freshly baked "Bagel Bomb" on my plate. Carolyn and all the staff are super friendly and treated me like a rock star. Photo: The bakery has a comfortable patio on the street, in front of the restaurant, and I chose to enjoy my breakfast outside, as it was a beautiful, warm morning in early August, 2026. I always thing great foot tastes even better when enjoyed outside. Photo: From the top of the "Pastries and Everyday Goodies" section of the menu, I went with a "Bagel Bomb," which is the flagship offering of the restaurant and bakery. This foundation of this delicious "Bagel Bomb" was a freshly-baked bagel, golden brown with the perfect firm texture on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside... a bagel that would make any New Yorker proud to be in Colfax! Inside, it was stuffed with scrambled eggs, melted American cheese, bacon, and fried jalapeņo pepper slices. Oh my! This was a new culinary experience for me, and I couldn't wait to begin the journey! With my first bite, I was rewarded with a rush of flavors, a taste extravaganza that combined the fresh bagel, scrambled eggs, fried bacon and melted cheese all into an indescribably delicious taste sensation. The bagel held it all together, and I could taste, savor and enjoy each quality ingredient as they all worked together to make the "Bagel Bomb" a culinary masterpiece. The "bomb" is large enough that it could make for a light breakfast or early lunch, but it's hearty enough to keep you fueled and happy so you can enjoy your day with a smile on your face. Photo: Cross section of my "Bagel Bomb" showing all of the layers of goodness. This was an amazing and delicious addition to breakfast. The Wrecking Crew Bakery and Cafe is a destination for railroad crews, and it truly a dining destination for Colfax locals, and "foodies" all over Placer County and beyond. The Wrecking Crew Bakery and Cafe has all of your baking and culinary bases covered, and as the menu reads, "Baking the world a better place." The dining is simply amazing, and Carolyn and her friendly staff will treat you like a member of their extended family. For amazing pastries, breakfast and more, enjoy the fine, Sierra Nevada foothill cuisine at The Wrecking Crew Bakery and Cafe, located in Colfax, CA. This is fine Gold Country Dining!
