Patio Drive In is a small, family owned and operated diner, located in the small Sierra Nevada foothill city of San Andreas, CA, in beautiful Calaveras County. This fine restaurant dishes out "comfort food" and delicious small-town diner cuisine every day of the week, except Monday. As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences. Photo: It's around 08:30, Saturday morning, May 02, 2026, and I've arrived at Patio Drive In, located in San Andreas, CA to enjoy some fine diner cuisine for breakfast. Photo: The restaurant operates on what I label a "taqueria format." You walk up to the order counter, make your selection from the overhead menu, pay for your order, and receive a "number," and choose any available table. When your order is ready, it will be brought to you by one of the friendly staff members. The printed menu is available to view at the counter, as the overhead menu is somewhat abbreviated. Unlike many other restaurants, Patio Drive In didn't seem to being much of a to-go business, as I suppose San Andreas locals prefer to enjoy their meal, inside the diner, like I do. Gold country dining at the best! Photo: The main dining room, complete with a huge gum ball machine. The dining room decor isn't fancy, as it's an "old school" diner, but it's comfortable, and the food is delicious. Photo: The breakfast menu, along with lunch and dinner menus is posted at the counter. The restaurant is serious about breakfast as breakfast is served any time the restaurant is open. Photo: I took a peek through the back door to watch the chef in action. This gentleman has talent in the compact kitchen. Photo: The girl who took my order at the counter brought my breakfast to me, and placed it on the table without a word. I think she was just shy rather than unfriendly. Photo: I'm a happy guy, as I'm ready to enjoy a fine diner breakfast at Patio Drive In, located in San Andreas, CA. Photo: From the "All-Day Breakfast" menu, I went with a very simple breakfast of two eggs, hash brown potatoes, white toast, and an optional side of sausage gravy. The hash browns were fried to a beautiful crispy golden brown on the outside, and tender, white and juicy on the inside, just the way perfect hash browns are cooked. I went with my eggs fried over easy, and that's the way they arrived... perfectly fried as per my request. I requested the optional side of gravy to be placed on my hash browns, as I love to dip my potatoes into the gravy, and this made it east. The gravy was creamy, rich, perfectly seasoned, and included chunks of sausage. I loved the gravy with my hash browns! My delicious breakfast included two pieces of white toast - many varieties of toast are offered - and the toast was perfectly toasted, buttered and made for an excellent way for me to clean up my plate. Such a great Saturday morning breakfast! Let's go back to Tuesday morning, May 06, 2025 to a previous breakfast I enjoyed at Patio Drive In... Photo: From the "Breakfast" section of the menu, I went with "Sausage Lover," as that definitely describes my taste for breakfast. The menu describes this amazing dish as, "Choice of chicken apple sausage or hot sausage, two eggs, hash browns and toast." As an aside... Patio Drive In is very serious about breakfast, and breakfast is served any time the restaurant is open. I went with the "hot sausage" option, which is truly the way to get a Tuesday morning started the right way. My sausage was spit in half, perfectly grilled, with a skin that "crunched" when I bit into it, and the inside was tender, juicy and full of flavor. The menu described the sausage as "hot," ... I can't say that, but it did have a pleasant "kick" to it. Of course heat is in the mouth of the beholder... Simply an amazing piece of sausage, perfectly grilled! The hash browns were crispy on the outside, and tender, white and juicy on the inside, just the way perfect hash browns are cooked. I went with my eggs fried sunnyside up, and that's the way they arrived... perfectly fried as per my request. My delicious breakfast included two pieces of sourdough toast - many varieties of toast are offered - and the toast was perfectly toasted, buttered and made for an excellent way for me to clean up my plate. For all Calaveras County "foodies" and breakfast lovers... Patio Drive In is serious about breakfast, as breakfast is served any time the restaurant is open. Great dining in San Andreas! Delicious "Americana" cuisine served by friendly staff in an "old school" diner... what could be better? Patio Drive in, located in San Andreas, CA. Fine gold country dining...
