Mom's Kitchen, located in Auburn, CA is just like the name implies, as this family owned and operated restaurant serves "comfort food," just like mom used to serve at home. It's also dedicated to mothers from all over Auburn, and greater Placer County, as the walls and shelves of the spacious dining room are decorated with countless photos of local moms, from many gold country generations... As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.
Photo: It's 08:05 in the morning, Wednesday, July 15, 2026 and I've arrived at Mom's Kitchen, located on Nevada St., in Auburn, CA to enjoy a delicious breakfast. The restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch five days a week, and offers "classic comforts served daily." Mom's Kitchen reopened a month ago on June 20, 2026, under new ownership, as the restaurant had been closed for several months. The new owners have made minimal changes that I could detect, as the decor, the atmosphere and even the menu are virtually identical from the previous ownership. If you loved Mom's "back then," you love them today!
Photo: The dining room is large, with high tables around the walls, and lower tables in the center. Each table is set with an array of condiments, including two flavors of hot sauce, ketchup, mustard, salt, pepper, jam and dispenser of maple syrup. Mom's is serious about breakfast! Most of the walls are painted a cheery off-white with red trim, and are decorated with hundreds of photos of local moms, going back several generations. The restaurant truly lives up to it's name. It's a classic "old school" diner in every way.
Photo: There is a small counter at the end of the dining room with four stools, and if you look past the counter, you can see the window to the kitchen, and the talented chef performing her magic. The talented chef is Amanda, who is also the super friendly owner of the restaurant.
Photo: The first page of the breakfast menu begins with classics... but that's only the first page, as there are two more pages of breakfast choices. Anytime the restaurant is open, anything listed on the menu can be served, so if you desire a cheeseburger for breakfast, the friendly staff will be more than glad to accommodate your wishes. Yeah, that's me, as I'm seriously thinking about ordering a cheeseburger and fries for breakfast next time I visit.

Photo: I sat at one of the high tables near the wall, which gave me a great view of the friendly dining room. Vintage photos of a mom and her daughter were on the shelf near my table. These are two of hundreds of photos of moms, grandmothers, great grandmothers and daughters that decorate the dining room. Most of the pictures are labeled with the name of the folks in the photo.
Photo: Back on Wednesday, February 20, 2025 I enjoyed a delicious "Classic Breakfast" of eggs, hash brown potatoes and toast. My friendly server, and chef was Mick, the former owner of the restaurant. He was truly a nice guy and I wish him well in his retirement.

Photo: I'm a happy guy as I toast my server, Marsha, with a glass of ice water, as I'm ready to enjoy my delicious breakfast of "Country Fried Steak." The food is delicious, the portions are the perfect size and the price is right. Fine gold country dining!
Photo: From the first page of the "Breakfast" section of the menu, my choice was "Country Fried Steak," along with a side of hash brown potatoes, and a piece of sourdough toast, cut in half. The menu describes this delicious breakfast as, "Our country fried steak topped with country gravy, served with eggs, your way." The beef patty was seasoned, pounded thin, battered, and deep fried to a crispy, perfect, crunchy golden brown on the outside, but tender, flavorful and juicy on the inside, just the way a perfect country fried steak should be. It was covered with thick, rich sausage gravy, with large chunks of country sausage, to add an extra robust layer to the flavorful gravy. The meat patty was fork tender, so I really didn't need to use my knife to slice it into bite-size pieces. Oh my... what a way to get a Wednesday morning breakfast started! The side of hash browns were griddle-fried to a beautiful golden brown, crispy and crunchy on the outside, yet tender, white and juicy on the inside, which made for perfect hash brown potatoes. I ordered my eggs fried sunnyside up, which is my de facto standard when I order hash browns, and they arrived as ordered, fried perfectly. The breakfast rounded out with a slice of buttered sourdough toast, delicious in itself, which helped me clean up every bit of goodness from my plate. With my first bite of the chicken fried steak, I was rewarded with a taste sensation cornucopia of the tender beef, the crisp, deep fried, crunchy batter, and the luscious, country gravy. This chicken fried steak was simply amazing! The crispy hash browns, the eggs and the buttered sourdough toast made for the perfect sides, and made this a perfect breakfast. Mom's Kitchen truly upholds an "old school" diner tradition, and would make any aficionado of Route 66 cuisine proud. After enjoying this mouthwatering breakfast, I'm a true believer in Mom's Kitchen, as Chef Amanda has talent in her kitchen!
