Coffee And (Restaurant) is an old school diner, located in the heart of downtown Truckee, CA, just across the street from the transportation center. As you walk in the door, you'll be greeted by friendly staff, and the smell of freshly brewed coffee, and you'll know you've arrived at a fine breakfast and lunch restaurant. As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.
Photo: It's 07:30 in the morning, Tuesday, September 15, 2026, and it's a chilly 34 degrees, and time for breakfast! I'm looking forward to enjoying a delicious breakfast at Coffee And (Restaurant,) located in downtown Truckee, CA. The outside dining on the sidewalk certainly looks sunny and inviting, but today it wasn't an option, thanks to the chilly fall-like temperature.
Photo: The dining room is spacious and very comfortable, with a counter at the end, which borders the kitchen and prep area. This is a classic, old school diner any way you look at it, and I loved the vintage diner decor... right out of the 1970's.
Photo: For the moment, I had the entire restaurant to myself, but I always prefer to sit at the counter, so I took a stool where I could watch all of the action. Note the chalk board that lists the extensive "Coffee Menu," along with the window to the kitchen. There's an old school order wheel, where orders are relayed to the kitchen, and a bell the chef "dings" when an order is ready... circa 1976.
Photo: A white board near the counter lists the "Specials." Believe it or not, I was really tempted to order the "Reuben Sandwich and Fries" for breakfast. I didn't ask, but since the restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch only, I'm sure anything on the menu could be ordered any time the restaurant is open. A slice of apple pie would have been great with breakfast, but I have to watch my weight.
Photo: The first page of the breakfast menu lists all the common favorites, especially the listings under "Egg Orders." If you flip the menu over, the other side has many other choices, including a small section of Mexican breakfasts. That also tempted me, but I went with "Sausage and Eggs" as that is one of my breakfast favorites.

Photo: From the "Egg Orders" section of the breakfast menu, I went for "Sausage and Eggs," with hashbrowns as my side of choice, along with biscuit and gravy, rather than toast. When biscuit and gravy is listed on the menu as an option rather than toast, that's the way I always roll, as I never get enough of biscuit and gravy. The star of the breakfast was the three sausage links, and these weren't your "supermarket variety" sausage links, as they were large, flavorful and oozing with juicy goodness. Each sausage sported a natural casing, so when you cut into it, you were rewarded with a satisfying "snap," and when you took your first bite, you entered the realm of sausage heaven, as these sausage links were simply AMAZING! I wished I would have asked my server what brand these were. The side of hashbrowns were golden crispy on the outside, tender, soft and juicy on the outside, and made for the perfect side to the sausage. I ordered my eggs fried sunnyside up, and they arrived, perfectly fried, as per my order. The side plate of biscuit and gravy worked perfectly, as the freshly baked biscuit was up open and covered with a mountain of rich, thick, delicious sausage gravy, that sported many large chunks of sausage. Oh my, was this biscuit and gravy delicious! The chef has talent, and prepares a scrumptious breakfast. My breakfast of "Sausage and Eggs" really hit the spot on this chilly Tuesday morning, as everything was perfectly cooked, fresh, hot, and tasted WONDERFUL and gave me the energy to get my morning started on a delicious note. No wonder why Coffee And (Restaurant) is a favorite of Truckee locals and residents of Nevada County, as the food is delicious good ol' home town "Americana" cooking, which is perfect for rustic dining in the Sierra Nevada mountain town of Truckee.
Photo: I cut one of the sausages in half, and thanks to the natural casing, I was rewarded with a satisfying "snap." When I bit into it, I could taste the juicy goodness, and I savored ever bite. Simply delicious sausage! When you're enjoying breakfast at Coffee And (Restaurant,) I highly recommend you order "Sausage and Eggs." You'll love the biscuit and gravy as your side! You'll love the delicious comfort food, along with the warm hospitality and the comfortable dining room.
