Since 1984, Barrow's Cafe and Grill, located in Sonora, CA has been dishing out all of your classic breakfast and lunch diner favorites to Sonora locals, gold country visitors, and all with a taste for delicious, Americana "comfort food." As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences. Photo: It's a little past 07:00 in the morning, Saturday, June 20, 2026, and I've arrived at Barrow's Cafe and Grill, located in Sonora, CA, to get my Saturday started with a delicious breakfast. This fine restaurant is located in the Wilco Farm Store center on Mono Way, which is also home to Doc's Dawgs, who serves some of the best hot dogs in Tuolumne County. I couldn't help not to notice the banner hung from the awning that advertised a breakfast of tri-tip and eggs for $12.95. Photo: An "old school" white board lists daily specials, including "Tri-Tip and Eggs." After seeing this, the menu was simply window dressing, as I knew what I was going to order before I walked in. Photo: As you enter the restaurant, you'll be greeted by a friendly staff member who will greet you and seat you. Like most diners, the restaurant has a small counter, but one side of it seems to be used for telephone or Internet orders, waiting to be picked up. Photo: The dining room is quite large and divided into sections, separated by low partitions. The decor is pure 1970's and hasn't been updated, and lends a classic diner atmosphere to this fine restaurant. Does the decor look familiar? Back in the day, this was a Perko's Cafe Grill, and the decor has hardly changed over the years. Photo: I took a peek behind the counter to photo the talented staff in action. Photo: One page of the breakfast menu offers combos, platters, omelets and more. Barrows Cafe and Grill is serious about breakfast, as it's served any time the restaurant is open. Photo: Meet Maizie, my friendly server, who brought my breakfast to me with a smile. My breakfast arrived about fifteen minutes after I placed my order, which made for very speedy service. Photo: I'm happy guy as I toast Maizie, and the friendly staff at Barrow's Cafe and Grill, located in Sonora, CA. Photo: From the daily special board, posted near the entrance, I went with the weekday - and Saturday - special breakfast of "Tri Tip and Eggs," for $12.95, which is served every day of the week until Sunday. In June of 2026, for $12.95, you can't beat the price of this fine breakfast! The main attraction was the tri-tip beef, served in four equal size portions, placed attractively on top of the slab of hash brown potatoes. Thanks to the charbroiler, the cris-cross grill marks on the slices of meat immediately grabbed my attention, as they made a very stunning presentation. This was a meal for a hungry guy, as I'm guessing the four pieces of meat most likely added up to a half pound. The large slab of hash browns were fried to a perfect, golden brown, with a crunchy outside, yet white, tender and juicy inside. These were delicious, classic diner hash brown potatoes in every way! I requested my eggs fried sunnyside up, and they arrived perfectly fried, as per my order. When I order hash brown potatoes - which is always when they're offered - I usually like to order my eggs fried sunnyside up, as they go well with hash browns. The side of biscuits and gravy was a side of pure heaven. The TWO biscuits were fresh from the kitchen, baked to perfection, and covered in rich, thick gravy, with lots of chunks of tender sausage. The tri-tip was perfectly grilled, juicy and tender, and was simply delicious! The hash brown potatoes, eggs, biscuit and gravy complimented the tri-tip in the best possible way, and made for a delicious breakfast. My compliments go to the talented chef at Barrow's Cafe and Grill! Photo: I cut a small piece of tri-tip to admire the goodness. As per my request, it was cooked medium-rare, with just a little bit of pink on the outside, seared and juicy on the outside. Barrow's Cafe and Grill should be a destination restaurant for all lovers of tri-tip and eggs! What a delicious way to begin a Saturday morning by enjoying a breakfast of tri-tip and eggs! My breakfast was comfort food delicious, Maizie treated me like a rock star, and I left with a full stomach and a smile on my face. For over forty years, Barrow's Cafe and Grill has been a favorite diner of Sonora locals, and foodies all over Tuolumne County and the western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The food is delicious, the servings are plentiful, and the staff is super friendly. Fine dining at Barrow's Cafe and Grill, located on Mono Way in Sonora, CA.
