Restaurants that serve fish tacos are easy to find in Ensenada, especially just west of downtown, in the area along Blvd. Lazaro Cardenas, between the Flag Plaza and the Fish Market. If you're in the mood for great fish tacos, look on the west side of the street, just north of the Fish Market, and you'll find Mariscos El Marachi.
Photo: Located on the west side of Blvd. Lazaro Cardenas, near the Fish Market, Mariscos El Mariach features lots of indoor dining, and a table on the sidewalk, which makes a good place to people-watch, as you enjoy a delicious lunch.
Photo: On this Tuesday afternoon, September 11, 2012, there were three girls working in the restaurant, and as the case in many restaurants in Mexico, I was the only customer. The gal to the right of the photo was my server, and she was quite shy and reserved. She commented to me that they don't get many customers who take photos, and she seemed quite camera-shy, so I backed-off on taking any more photos of her.
Photo: The well-equipped kitchen at Mariscos El Mariachi is open to the dining room, and makes it quite easy to photograph the cook in action. An interesting note is back in December, 2004, I visited Mariscos El Mariachi, but it was a completely different restaurant, located about two blocks north of this restaurant. I didn't figure it out until I got home and started comparing notes. I guess the restaurant from the previous visit has been torn down, and the business has moved closer to the Fish Market, which seems to be a good business strategy. Photo: My order of two fish tacos, "con todo," which included salsa cruda, shredded cabbage, cilantro, and diced jalapeno peppers. Crema was provided in a bowl, and you scooped as much as you wanted on to your tacos. Chips and salsa were also provided. Curiously, the restaurant doesn't serve beer, so I settled for a Mexican Coke, which I truly love.
Photo: When the weather is nice, as it was on this early Tuesday afternoon, I prefer to dine outside, as I enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of Mexico. I asked my shy server to take my photo, which she willingly did, and she did an outstanding job. I paid MEX $42.00 for my meal, which is a tad under $4.00, so I gave her a 5-spot and told her to keep the change.
Photo: Close-up of my two delicious fish tacos, with all of the trimmings. Note that each taco is wrapped with two corn tortillas, which is the de facto standard for a Baja-style fish taco. These fish tacos are as good of fish tacos as you'll ever enjoy in Ensenada. Mariscos El Marachi serves as good of fish tacos as you can find anywhere in Ensenada, and a very reasonable price. The only oddity is that they don't serve beer, so I had to settle for a Mexican Coke, which is not a problem, as there are countless restaurants nearby where cerveza can be found. When you're looking for a great fish taco, look no further than Mariscos El Marachi. Mariscos
