Taqueria El Poblano is a family owned and operated restaurant that serves several varieties of tacos and tortas, located in the small town of Los Algodones, which is the northernmost city in all of Mexico. I enjoyed a visit to Los Algodones on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, and on that date, I enjoyed a couple of delicious carne asada tacos at Taqueria El Poblano.
Photo: Taqueria El Poblano is located at the corner of Calle Cuarta and Av. "B" and offers shaded, comfortable dining, and delicious food. I noted that the corn tortillas are made by hand, on-site, of course.
Photo: I ordered two carne asada tacos with everything, or as its said in Spanish, "con todo." El Poblano is very low tech, as noted by tree trunk cutting board and the stone bowl used for mashing tomatoes. Check out the custom-made grill, using a automobile rim, and a grill of unknown origin. Low tech is good, and Taqueria El Poblano serves delicious tacos.
Photo: This group of visiting Canadians were multitasking, as they were having their orders taken while a young lady displays her jewelry and attempts to interesting them in her fine wares. The gentleman wearing the black cowboy to the right of the photo, talking to the waitress, actually spoke pretty good Spanish. It was truly interesting to hear Canadians speak Spanish, with a unique "Canadian" accent. Note the cute jewelery vender girl in the background of the photo. When she was finished with the Canadians, she came over to me, trying to convince me to purchase her wares. Photo: My chef smiles, after he's place a couple of corn tortillas on the propane-fired griddle. Photo: My marinated carne asada has been grilled over mesquite, and is amazingly delicious. After the chef toasted the corn tortillas on the griddle, he placed them on the mesquite-fired grill for extra flavor.
Photo: One of my tacos is being created, by hand. The young chef was being kept very busy, and didn't really answer many of my questions. I think he was maybe a little shy...
Photo: After attempting to sell jewelry to the Canadian group, it was my turn, and I politely to,ld her that I wasn't interested jewelry, which is the honest truth. I asked if I could take her photo, she agreed, and I tipped her two dollars and told her to have a couple of tacos on me. I was rewarded with a friendly smile and a nice thank you.
Photo: My two delicious carne asada tacos, on hand-made, in-house made corn tortillas, garnished with salsa, diced white onions, chopped cilantro, and creamy guacamole. Ohhhh baby!!!! At the going rate of MEX $10.00 per taco, the delicious tacos served at Taqueria El Poblano fall into the bargain category. The restaurant features comfortable, shaded dining, and the staff is friendly. When you visit Los Algodones, I highly recommend you stop by Taqueria El Poblano. Taqueria
