Walk the streets of downtown Tijuana by day, and you won't be able to find a hot dog vendor if your life depends on it. If you're in the mood for a Tijuana-style, bacon-wrapped hot dog, stick around until late afternoon or early evening, and you'll find a hot dog vendor on nearly every street corner. Photo: It's early Sunday evening, September 9, 2012, and the Hot Dog Guys are in business at the corner of Calle 2 and Av. Constución, in downtown Tijuana. The also serve hamburgers, but I was in the mood for a hot dog... Photo: Hot Dog Guys is operated by two gentlemen, who sell your typical Tijuana-style, bacon-wrapped hot dog, with all the traditional Mexican condiments. The younger guy made my hot dog for me, while the older gentleman seemed preoccupied at the task of chatting with, and possibly wooing the pretty lady. Photo: One of the two Tijuana-style hot dogs that I enjoyed from the Hot Dog Guys. The dog is wrapped with bacon, and cooked over a propane-fired griddle. Condiments include mustard, mayonnaise, diced tomato and red onion. I love hot dogs cooked on the streets of downtown Tijuana! All of this for less than a U.S. dollar... Photo: I think part of the job qualifications of being a Tijuana hot dog vendor is to have an extreme sense of humor, and to be a clown at heart, as this gentleman seems to be as I snap his photo. Or maybe he's just humoring a crazy, gringo tourist? Photo: When the older guy noticed that I was taking photos, he left his pretty lady and grabbed a spatchula and tongs, to clown up for my camera. I was only too happy to oblige and snap his photo! I told the guys about my web site, and they said they'd check it out, as they're both familiar with the Internet. Photo: Both guys suggested since they clowned up for the camera, that I do the same, and I was only too happy to comply with their request! Hot Dog Guys produces a delicious hot dog! Not surprisingly, this hot dog vendor didn't have a name for his business - I suggested Hot Dog Guys - but the dogs were great, as they were the typical made-on-the-street-Tijuana-style bacon-wrapped hot dogs, with all the condiments. At the price of MEX $10.00 each, less than a U.S. dollar, they were an incredible bargain. Hot
