There is nothing like enjoying a delicious breakfast, sitting outside, watching everyday people doing everyday things in the small, Mexican town of San Felipe. Restaurant Chencho's not only offers delicious food, but they feature comfortable, outdoor dining, when you can dine under the shady awning and watch the world go by. Every day is a good day in San Felipe! Photo: Restaurant Chencho's is located only a few blocks east of the Sea of Cortez and offers indoor and outdoor dining. On this warm September morning, my choice was outdoor dining, as I love to eat outdoors and watch the world go by. Photo: The dining room isn't fancy, but it's clean, comfortable and air conditioned. Today, Friday, September 14, 2012, at 1000, the temperature was only about 90 degrees; I've been in San Felipe this time of year when the temperature was 20 degrees warmer... Photo: My friendly server, Consuela, grabs a Tecate from the cooler for another customer. She was very curious as to why I was taking photos, so after I explained my mission to her, she really warmed up for my camera. Photo: Chips, salsa and beer make a great appetizer on a beautiful Friday morning. The street in the photo is Av. Puerto Penasco, and the Sea of Cortez can be seen in the middle rear of the photo. The menu at Restaurant Chencho's features lots of seafood and Mexican "comfort food," and includes a great breakfast selection. I fell back on my favorite, of chorizo, eggs, beans and tortillas. Photo: Consuela brings my breakfast to my patio table. She was impressed with my Spanish, and proceeded to tell me that she was born and raised in San Felipe, and has lived here all of her life. She also said that she's never been to the U.S., but has been to Ensenada, Mexicali and Tijuana. She said some day she'd like to visit the U.S., so I told her that if she makes it to the greater Sacramento area to look me up and I'd show her around. Photo: I pose with my breakfast, and am about ready to enjoy. In Mexico, coffee is sometimes available, but it's expensive, not very good, and there is no such thing as free refills. Soft drinks and beer are very common to enjoy with breakfast, so I usually take the high road, but living the motto, "When in San Felipe, do as the Felipians do..." Photo: My delicious breakfast of a Dos XX beer, four corn tortillas, chips and salsa, chorizo and eggs, along with refried beans. Talk about a delicious, Mexican, "comfort food" breakfast! The price for breakfast and three beers came to MEX $108.00, with worked out to $8.37 in U.S. dollars. I gave Consuela a generous tip, as she was very pleasant, friendly and made me feel very welcome. The red awning casts a rosy glow on my meal, and despite my best efforts with Paint Shop Pro, some of the rosy coloring remains... Restaurant Chencho's is a great place to dine, as the food is delicious, the staff is friendly, the price is right, and the outdoor dining is comfortable with a great view of the town of San Felipe. For a great breakfast, I highly recommend Restaurant Chencho's. Restaurant
