Mariscos El Atracon is probably the easiest fish restaurant to find in Ensenada, as it's located on Calle Miramar, right next to the Fish Market, and as you approach the market from Blvd. Cardenas, it's the first restaurant that you see. The premiere location, colorful red, white and blue paint, and the friendly staff members, who wait outside and entice you to come inside also help make a visit to Mariscos El Atracon very easy.
Photo: Mariscos El Atracon is hard to miss, as it's at the end of "Fish Taco Row," located next to the Fish Market, a.k.a. "Mercado Negro," at the foot of Calle Miramar. The white, red and blue paint job helps as well. A small portion of the Fish Market can be seen at the extreme left of the photo. It's Tuesday, September 11, 2012, and the time is 1641 in the afternoon.
Photo: Like most of the fish restaurants that cater to tourists, when staff members aren't busy, they stand outside to promote the business, and reel the customers inside. Me? I just walked up, sat at a table, and ordered a beer and two fish tacos, with no questions asked.
Photo: The kitchen is open to the dining room, which makes photo taking easy.
Photo: The cook holds my plate of fish tacos, ready to be placed on my table. The staff was very friendly, but they seemed wary of my photo taking, so I kept it to a minimum. Note the goblets of salsa and condiments on the counter. This must be a "uniform" for all of the restaurants on "Fish Taco Row," as they all have nearly identical condiments, displayed in the same manner.
Photo: I'm holding my plate of fish tacos, as the cook snaps my photo. Note the goblets of condiments on the table; each restaurant in the line-up has an identical assortment. Note the dining room has an open air section, where I'm seated, an enclosed area to the right, and an upstairs dining area. Again, all the restaurants near the Fish Market are laved out identically, in a cookie-cutter fashion.
Photo: My order of two fish tacos, before the condiments were added. Each piece of fish was deep fried to a golden brown outside, and tender and chewy inside, but each taco included only one corn tortilla, which didn't thrill me.
Photo: My two fish tacos, dressed with salsa cruda, diced red onions, and crema. The tacos were good, but nothing to rave about, ditto for the condiments. The Tecate beer was served in a can; no cold glass was available. The onions seemed a bit on the soggy side. All in all, the meal was decent, and reasonably priced at about US $4.25 for two fish tacos and a beer. As I've said before, Mariscos El Atracon is nearly identical to every other fish restaurant located in the vicinity of the fish market. Actually, if it wasn't for the slightly different decor, and the different staff members, this review could apply to every fish restaurant located on Calle Miramar, at the Fish Market, as all of the restaurants serve identical cuisine, and in all regards, are nearly identical. Mariscos El Atracon serves great fish tacos, the staff is friendly, but a bit wary of photos, and the experience was great, but identical to every other restaurant along Ensenada's "Fish Market Row."
