OK... how many restaurants in Roseville, and in western Placer County offer an Italian brunch on weekends? Honestly, the thought never occurred to me until a few days ago, as I was walking by Tomatina Fresh Italian Restaurant, located on Fairway Drive, and noticed signs advertising brunch being served on weekends.  I became interested...

As with all restaurant reviews I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.

Photo:  Tomatina Fresh Italian Restaurant is located on Fairway drive, and is the Roseville link in a small chain of restaurants mostly located in the Bay Area.  The Roseville location opened in late 2020, and is the latest Italian restaurant in town.  It's just past the 10:00 o'clock in the morning opening time on Saturday, April 02, 2022, and I've come to enjoy my first ever Italian brunch!

The building may look familiar, as it's the former home of Florentine Trattoria, which I never was able to visit, and earlier, the long-gone Johnny Garlic's.

Photo:  Weekends are special at Tomatina, as the restaurant opens at 10:00 in the morning and offers brunch until 02:00 in the afternoon, with the regular menu available at 11:30.  There are many of these signs planted in the landscape along Fairway Drive, and they must have done their job, as they got my attention.  In all my years of enjoying delicious restaurants, I'd never enjoyed an Italian brunch, so I couldn't wait to pay a visit!

Photo:  The restaurant is very spacious and the decor is very attractive.  The furniture is a mixture of booths and tables, and there is plenty of seating at the large bar.

Photo:  As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice an old school black board listing the daily specials and the name of today's chef.  The specials change daily, so the board is easy to update.

Photo:  The dining room is clean, comfortable and very spacious.  There is a large bar on one side, with television monitors, which gives a "sports bar like" atmosphere to the bar side of the dining room.  The open kitchen is at the rear of the dining room.

Photo:  The large dining room is furnished with booths in the center, and along the walls, with tables in the center. It's a great mix of furniture for your dining comfort.  Since I "opened" the restaurant on this Saturday morning, I had the dining room all to myself for a few minutes, but since it was such a beautiful spring morning, I chose to dine outside on the patio.

Photo:  Brunch is offered on weekends and is listed on a separate menu.  I wanted something really different, and the "Potato and Sausage Piadine" looked interesting.  I really had no idea of what to expect, as I am not familiar with Italian cuisine, but it looked like an interesting breakfast choice.  I was in for a very pleasant surprise!

Photo:  The large open kitchen is located at the rear of the restaurant, which makes it east to watch the talented chefs prepare your meal.

Photo:  The kitchen showcases a large, brick-lined pizza oven that's fired by propane.

Photo:  Outside seating is available on the patio, which is pleasant on a beautiful spring day like today.  Weather permitting, I usually prefer patio dining, as food always seems to taste better while enjoyed outdoors.

Photo:  My friendly host, Brandon, mixes a drink for a customer at the bar.

Photo:  Meet Brandon, my super friendly host who brought my breakfast to me with a smile.

Photo:  Thanks, Brandon, for snapping my photo, as I prepare to enjoy an amazing brunch of "Potato and Sausage Piadine," outside on the patio, located in front of Tomatina Fresh Italian Restaurant.

Photo:  From the weekend "Brunch Menu," I went with "Potato and Sausage Piadine," which turned out to be a completely unexpected delight for me, on this late Saturday morning.  The "Weekend Brunch" menu describes this fine selection as, "Yukon gold potatoes, chicken apple sausage, mozzarella, and fried eggs, topped with mixed greens, pepperoncinis, scallions and ranch."  That's how the menu describes this amazing breakfast, in the style of Italy!

My breakfast was based on the foundation of a good size... probably fourteen-inch pizza crust, light, crispy and baked to perfection in the pizza oven.  The crust was lightly seasoned, and baked to a light, crispy, yet tender golden brown, with a tender inside, and a crispy outside, thanks to the skill of the chef, the pizza oven, and maybe some olive oil.  I can't "second guess" what magic the chef performed, as all I can say was the crust, which was the foundation of my meal, was simply amazing.  As an aside. the pleasant "tang" of garlic helped to make this an amazing breakfast sensation.

The crust was simply the foundation, and my breakfast included mashed Yukon gold potatoes, mozzarella cheese, romaine lettuce, green onions, with the signature chicken apple sausage.  Ranch dressing and a couple of eggs, fried over medium, added the final touch to this amazing breakfast, or "brunch..." whatever you want to call it.

Today was my first taste - at age 70 - of an Italian breakfast, and I was simply blown away by the entire meal! Crispy crust, perfectly baked in the oven with an amazing golden brown texture, with melted cheese, mashed potatoes, sausage, and chilled lettuce, scallions and onions on top.  Speaking of "top..." two fried eggs?  My... what an amazing breakfast!  Simply delicious!

This amazing breakfast is ample for one person with an appetite, but could easily be shared by two diners.

Photo:  Crispy, light, golden crust, baked to perfection in the pizza oven, and topped with cheese, pepperoncinis, mashed potatoes and more, with two poached eggs to top it off.  All of this goodness arrived on a light, crispy pizza crust, baked to perfection. Such an amazing Italian-style breakfast!

Italian brunch on weekends doesn't happen at many restaurants in Roseville, so the brunch served at Tomatina Fresh Italian Restaurant is a welcome addition to the weekend dining scene in western Placer County.  You'll absolutely LOVE the delicious brunch, along with the amazingly friendly service, and you'll leave with a full stomach and a smile on your face.
