It's been quite some time since I've had the opportunity to visit a new restaurant, and write a review, as we sold our house, purchased another house, and are in the process of making our new house into our home. Running errands on Sunday, March 08, 2015 took me near the shopping center where Taj Oven is located, and on this early Sunday afternoon, Indian food sounded like a "plan," so I stopped in to sample their lunchtime buffet. Photo: Taj Oven is located in a small, upscale shopping center, near many other restaurants that co-locate the shopping center. If you aren't in the mood for Indian food, there are many other food choices in the shopping center. Today, I had set Indian cuisine in my sights, and ended up at Taj Oven. The menu reads, "New Name, Same Management," and I say it's all good! Photo: As you enter the restaurant, a small blackboard announces the specials of the day. They all looked good, but I came for the buffet. Photo: The lunchtime buffet is served every day from 1130 to 1500, and features many choices, all of them good. Indian cuisine is mostly vegetarian, so if that's your "thing," you'll be right at home, but if you're a carnivore, you'll love it, as there are several dishes that feature meat, including chicken tandoori. The food is delicious, it's hot, and it's fresh. The only disappointment to me was that there were no samosas, as I go crazy over them. Photo: The dining room is fairly large, very comfortable, and decorated with many Indian paintings and curios. Photo: Two fellow diners work the buffet. The "In-House Salad" is to the right, along with "House Dressing" which I absolutely adored. The middle of the buffet has mostly vegetarian dishes, as per Indian cuisine, but the far left, the girls are helping themselves to meat dishes, including chicken tandoori. Photo: As the saying goes, "When in India, do as the Indians do," and since I was in an Indian restaurant, I ordered a bottle of one of the leading Indian beers, a Taj Mahal. If you've never enjoyed a Taj Mahal, do yourself a favor and order one next time you visit an Indian restaurant, as it's good beer. I believe this lady is the co-owner of the restaurant, along with her husband, but I had a bit of difficulty with conversation, and I really don't remember her name. I'm sorry! Photo: I pose with my first plate of food, after receiving my beer, and a basket of Naan bread. Photo: My first plate of food, along with my beer, and a basket of Naan bread. Delicious! If you're not familiar with Indian cuisine, just grab from the buffet anything that catches your eye, as it's all simply delicious, and it's all good. The friendly staff will be happy to answer any of your questions. Photo: My first plate of delicious food. If you're not familiar with Indian cuisine, this is what is on my plate, going clockwise: Vegetable Biryani, Lamb/Goat Curry, Chicken Tandoori, which is Indian "comfort food," House Salad, along with House Salad Dressing, and Basmati Rice. Oh yeah! Photo: My second plate, going clockwise: Vegetable Biryani, which I couldn't stay away from, Daai Makhani, Baingan Bhurtha, and Fish Curry. My second plate was as delicious as my first plate; I just wish I had more of an appetite for a third, or a fourth plate, but that didn't happen. The cost of the buffet, along with the beer, came to around $16.00, which is a little pricey, but considering the delicious food, the friendly service, and the fact that it's an all-you-can-eat, the price is right, and I'll be back again. Tips are not expected, but I left a generous tip, thanks to the friendly staff putting up with my picture taking, and answering the many questions I asked about their fine restaurant. I actually know very little about Indian food, but what l DO know is that I love it, and I love the delicious Indian cuisine served at Taj Oven. The staff is friendly, the food is fresh and delicious, and since it's an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet, you won't leave hungry. I highly recommend a visit to Taj Oven to enjoy their wonderful lunchtime buffet. Taj Oven Copyright(c) 2015 eRench Productions. All rights reserved.
