Mario's Early Toast, located on Douglas Blvd., in Roseville, CA opened in mid-May, 2020, and over the last five years has become a go-spot for Rosevillians who appreciate amazing breakfast and lunch, served by friendly staff. Mario's is a fun, friendly restaurant, and a great place to hang out in western Placer County and enjoy great food and great service. As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experience Photo: It's a little past 07:30 in the morning, Saturday, January 04, 2025 and I've arrived at Mario's Early Toast, located on Douglas Blvd. in Roseville, CA to enjoy one of the best breakfasts in Placer County, and all of the gold country. The Roseville location of Mario's is one link in a small chain of five restaurants located in the greater Sacramento area. All restaurants are family owned and operated and all share a common menu and operating characteristics. Does this building look familiar? Prior to 2020, and Mario's taking over, this building used to be Peg's Glorified Ham and Eggs, a great restaurant, but for some reason didn't seem to be a good fit for the Roseville dining scene. This fine restaurant is located in a small strip mall, known as the Rocky Ridge Plaza. Photo: As you enter the restaurant, you'll be greeted at the counter by a friendly staff member, and seated promptly. Yes, the restaurant truly speializes in mimosas, but I prefer beer. Photo: The focus of the dining room seems to be the busy counter, with the kitchen behind the counter. The counter has six seats, and the dining room furniture is mostly booths, with a few tables available. There is a comfortable patio outside for your dining pleasure, but on this early Saturday morning in January, outside dining was not an option. The dining room has several video monitors, which seemed to be showcasing the attributes of the restaurant. Photo: The dining room is large, inviting, comfortable and tastefully decorated. Each table or booth is set with an assortment of condiments, which include a bottle of Cholula Hot Sauce. Photo: One page of the breakfast menu that lists the "A La Mexicana Breakfast" selections. As much as I love "Americana" or diner-style breakfasts, when Mexican breakfasts are offered, I usually take the plunge. Photo: I was looking over the Mexican section of the breakfast menu and trying to make up my mind when friendly Katie walked past my table with an order for another diner. I asked her about it, and it turned out to be "Morning Green Enchiladas." I made up my mind immediately... Photo: Along with my breakfast of "Morning Green Enchiladas," I went with a "Michelada" using Pacifico Mexican beer, to work as a fine appetizer, and to get my morning started the right way. My friendly server, Stephanie, prepares my "Michelada" at the small bar, with several draft beers on tap. Photo: There is no better way to enjoy a south-of-the-border breakfast than with a fresh, custom-made "Michelada," as it will get your morning off to a great start. My beer of choice was Pacifico, and between the beer, the tomato juice, the spices, and the frosted glass with coarse salt on the rim, this made for a fine, refreshing side to my breakfast. Thanks to the talents of Stephanie, my server, who crafted this fine drink. Photo: Meet Stephanie, my super friendly server, who brought my breakfast to me with a smile. She was friendly and efficient and treated me like royalty. One way or the other, she and I got on the subject of NFL Football, as I'd planned to watch the NFL Wild Card Playoffs later in the day. It seems Stephanie is a fan of football, particularly the 49'ers and the Raiders, and she knows and loves football, and can talk it up with you about football. It was a pleasure chatting with her. Photo: I raise my "Michelada" and toast my friendly server Stephanie, along with the staff and amazing cuisine at Mario's Early Toast, located on Douglas Blvd. in Roseville. My breakfast arrived in less than 5 minutes after I placed my order... it arrived so quickly that I didn't even have time to take a sip of my drink! That's FAST! It was almost comical, as I wasn't in a hurry, as it was a lazy Saturday morning, and I would have been content to sit at my table, sip my "Michelada" and simply enjoy the ambiance. Photo: From the "Mexican Favorites" section of the breakfast menu, I went with "Morning Green Enchiladas," and my choice of meat was chilie verde. Eggs are fried to your request, and today, it was eggs fried over easy to top my enchiladas. The menu describes this delicious Mexican breakfast as, "Choose from chilie verde, chicken or cheese. Two eggs any style, topped with sour cream and chives. Served with Spanish rice and refried beans." I describe this amazing Mexican breakfast "Muy sabroso." The star of the show were two enchiladas, made with soft corn tortillas, and stuffed with marinated chunks of pork, seasoned, and cooked with chili verde to make a thick, delicious enchilada. Think of a bowl of chili verde, stuffed into a corn tortilla, and you get the idea, as the enchiladas were delicious, and fork tender; the knife was simply window dressing. The enchiladas were topped with two eggs, perfectly fried over easy, and sprinkled with fresh, diced chives to enhance the delicious taste. Spanish rice and refried beans were side dishes to this savory breakfast. The rice didn't disappoint, as it was perfectly cooked, flavorful and pleasantly on the red side in color, thanks to the chilis, which I could taste and truly enhanced the rice. The refried beans were simply out-of-this-world delicious, and truly reminded me of some of the refried beans that I've enjoyed during my many trips to Baja California. Savory, delicious, robust in flavor, with the perfect texture... the refried beans were simply delicious. As a nod to Placer County tastes, the beans were covered with melted, shredded Mexican blend cheese, which was delicious, but not exactly authentic to the refried beans you'll find in Mexico. The refreshing "Michelada" made for a delicious appetiser... or was it dessert? It hit the spot and went well with my breakfast. This breakfast was simply delicious, as it was composed of fresh, quality ingredients, prepared by the talented kitchen staff, and made for a great breakfast, and got my first Saturday morning of the year 2025 off to a great start! Photo: Close up showing the goodness of the enchiladas, sour cream, chives, Spanish rice and the refried beans, topped with melted Mexican cheese. Such an amazing breakfast! Photo: I cut off a piece of an enchilada, added a little rice and take a bite of all the goodness this superior breakfast offers.
