Lumberjacks is a small chain of eight restaurants, with seven of them located in Northern California, and a lone outpost located in Las Vegas.  The name fits the restaurant, as the generous portions will keep a lumberjack, along with a football linebacker, full and happy.

As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.

Photo:  It's a little past 08:00 in the morning, Tuesday, December 31, 2024, and I've arrived at Lumberjacks, in Grass Valley, to enjoy one of the best breakfasts in the Sierra Nevada foothills, and the greater Sacramento area.

The Grass Valley is one of eight locations of Lumberjacks, as there are seven restaurants in Northern California, and a solitary restaurant located in Las Vegas.

Photo:  As you enter the restaurant, you'll arrive at a meeter/greeter counter, and a friendly staff member will greet and seat you.  I simply bypassed and seated myself at the small counter, as the restaurant was lightly seated on this early Tuesday morning.

Photo:  Can you say "rustic?" ... rustic is the word for the decor of the restaurant, as the decor revolves around a lumberjack theme.  The decor is rustic, the cuisine is "Diner Americana," but the dining room is inviting, clean and comfortable.

Photo:  The dining room carries out the rustic, lumberjack theme, as it's decorated with faux logs and wood paneling, which enhances the atmosphere.  Period photos, along with state-of-the-art video monitors decorate the walls.

Nevada County is famous in history for logging - lumberjack anyone? - and period photos decorate the walls of the dining room.  Check out a photo of a Shay locomotive, which once operated on a logging railroad out of nearby Nevada City.

Photo:  Meet Lindsay, my friendly hostess, who greeted me and seated me at the counter with a super friendly smile.

Photo:  Lumberjacks is serious breakfast, as it's served anytime the restaurant is open.  This is the first page of the breakfast menu, which should give you an idea to the breakfast commitment that this fine restaurant embraces. The menu is loose leaf, which makes it fold flat, and easy to read and ponder your next breakfast, or other sensation.

With the exception of baked potatoes, anything is available to order anytime the restaurant is open.  Speaking of opening, this fine restaurant is open every day of the week from 07:00 in the morning until 22:00 in the evening.

Photo:  The famous "One Pound Hamburger" is available anytime the restaurant is open.  I'm drooling over this enormous burger and I think I'll rise to the challenge and tackle it on my next visit.

You arrive for breakfast at 07:00 and you want to enjoy this burger?  No worries, as this GIGANTIC burger is available anytime the restaurant is open.

Thank you, Lumberjacks, for allowing me to post your photo.

Photo:  From the counter, you get a great view into the kitchen, where you can watch the talented chefs performing their magic, so you can enjoy a delicious breakfast.

Photo:  Ashley and Lindsay like each other, and offer friendship for my camera.

Photo:  My super friendly server, Ashley, brings breakfasts to fellow diners.  My breakfast came up just a couple minutes after this photo was taken.  I was in business!

Photo:  Meet Ashley, my amazingly friendly server, who brought my breakfast to me with a smile.  She, along with hostess Lindsay, treated me like royalty during today's dining adventure.

After requesting a bottle of Cholula Hot Sauce, which she brought to me, we had quite a chat about local hot sauces... she asked me if I loved Pepper Plant Hot Sauce.  Of course I love it!  Pepper Plant, like me, is a native of Fresno...

Photo:  I'm a happy guy, as I'm ready to close out December, and the year 2024 with one of the best breakfast you could ever imagine.

Photo:  From the "Weekday Specials" menu, I went with a New York steak, hashbrown potatoes, fried eggs, sourdough toast, and an optional side of breakfast.  Yowza!!!  My last breakfast of 2024 turned out to be one of the best breakfasts that I'd the pleasure to enjoy during the entire year.  Thanks to Ashley, Lindsay and the friendly and talented staff at Lumberjacks, located in Grass Valley.

The "Weekday Specials" aren't listed on the menu, nor are they posted on a chalk board, and they're offered to you by your server, as you're greeted at your table.  Yes, I looked over the menu, but a New York steak breakfast, cooked to order, sounded out like a great way to say adios to 2024.

As per my order, my steak arrived cooked medium rare, complete with attractive grill marks.  As explained by my server, the steak was "breakfast sized" around 6-oz or so... but size didn't matter, as this steak was not only attractive to look at, but it was seasoned, juicy, tender and simply delicious.  Lumberjacks is a well kept secret for gold country dining, as they make a superior breakfast steak!

My side of choice was hashbrown potatoes, and I made a superior choice, as these hashbrowns were some of the best I've ever enjoyed in Nevada County dining!  The potatoes were shredded - naturally - and fried to a perfect golden brown, crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside, which made for some of the most perfect hashbrowns that you could ever imagine.

The two eggs were fried as per my order, sunnyside up, which works well with hashbrown potatoes.  Two slices of sourdough toast were perfectly toasted, buttered, and worked with the breakfast.

The optional side of breakfast gravy really added "the period to the sentence," as it was thick, creamy, with chunky sausage and simply delicious.  I alternated between dipping bits of steak and potato into the gravy... whatever the case, it made for an amazing add-on to enhance this superior breakfast.

Happy New Year... well... almost, but the check for this amazing breakfast came to... get this... $12.79!  That's right... steak, eggs, and an optional side of gravy. I was dazzled, amazed and shocked... as I expected well on the high side of $20.00.

In California's Gold Country, the greater Sacramento area, and maybe all of Northern California, you can't find a better breakfast, at a better price than you'll enjoy at Lumberjacks, in Grass Valley.

Photo:  Upon my request, Ashley brought a bottle of Cholula Hot Sauce to my place at the counter, which worked with my breakfast.  Cholula is simply made for breakfast, and eggs, or any breakfast isn't complete without it.

Check out the juicy, tender New York steak, which would put a smile on the face of any New Yorker, or anybody who loves a superior cut of steak for breakfast.

Photo:  One bite of a tender piece of a New York steak, cooked perfectly, ready to enjoy.  What could be better to enjoy for breakfast on the last day or 2024?

My dining experience on this last day of 2024 was simply amazing!  Lindsay and Ashley treated my like family, and I enjoyed a "New York Steak of the Century" breakfast, to "ace out" the year 2024, which has been a fantastic year for Gold Country Dining.

Nevada County dining at the finest... Lumberjacks... located in Grass Valley, CA!  As the menu reads... "Where the big boys eat..."
