The Fountains location of the House of Oliver is truly one of the smallest restaurants in Roseville, CA, as it's located in a kiosk right in the middle of The Fountains at Roseville retail center, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for with character, charm, friendly service and fine dining.

As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.

Photo:  House of Oliver at The Fountains is located in what's described as a kiosk, on an island in the middle of a branch of Galleria Blvd., which is the main street of Fountains at Roseville, a popular Placer County shopping and dining destination.  You can savor your favorite adult beverage outside, as you relax on the many shaded tables, thanks to the small fence, which makes imbibing state legal.  There is a wood burning fireplace put that's lit on chilly winter evenings, to add cheery warmth and ambiance.

It's a little past noon on Saturday, March 01, 2025, and I've arrived to enjoy the FIRST EVER  barbecue event the restaurant has held at this location.

Photo:  The day before the event, I noticed this post on House of Oliver's website and social media page, which truly grabbed my attention.  I was curious as how they could pull off this event in such a small kiosk.  I was curious about the logistics, but I'm always in the mood for great food and local microbrew.

The restaurant opened up last July in this small kiosk, and today was the first day they were offering barbecue.  The poster didn't mention it, but they were also grilling hot dog.

Photo:  Chef Matthew tends to business by setting up the grill, outside the kiosk, while conducting business on his phone at the same time.  On this first day in March, the weather was perfect for the event, as it was sunny, the wind was calm, and the temperature was in the mid-60's.

Photo:  The dining room at House of Oliver at The Fountains centers around the small bar, that offers several locally brewed micro brews on tap, wine and a small selection of cocktails.  Yes, that's it... the small bar and two high tables for two inside.  The bar and dining room is about the size of an apartment living room.

Where's the kitchen?  It's outside, and most of the limited "Small Bites" on the menu come from the main restaurant - I have yet to review - and are packed in ice chests.

This small, kiosk location is known for, as the sign reads, "Beer Wine Bites," and is designed as a fine drop-in lounge, where you can unwind during your shopping expedition and enjoy an adult beverage, and some of the simple, fine cuisine the menu offers.  The restaurant opened last July, and today was the first day they were offering on-site grilled sandwiches.

The chef told me if it all works out, grilling will happen on a regular basis.  You can bet I'll stay tuned to their social media!

Photo:  Allison, who ran the bar and kept the dining room in order, pours a "Flow" pale ale beer, brewed by Almanac Beer Co., located in the Bay Area city of Alameda.  There are several varieties of micro brewed beer on tap, with a rotating selection.

Photo:  I toast Allison and House of Oliver with my "Flow" pale ale.  The micro dining room has many windows and doors, and it's a great place to sit down, enjoy a beer or two, and do some serious people watching.

Photo:  As my "BBQ Tri-Tip Sandwich," was being prepared, I enjoyed a second beer, a "West Coast Firefall" IPA brewed by Rebellion Brewing Co., located in nearby Auburn.  By this time, the small dining room was beginning to get busy with wine and beer lovers, and "foodies," who were interested in the delicious tri-tip sandwich.

Photo:  Like the dining room, the "Small Bites" and "Cocktails" menu is compact.  Most of the menu selections are prepared at the main restaurant and transported to the locations at the "Fountains," as there really isn't space for a kitchen.

Photo:  Chef Matthew works on my sandwich, using his Weber portable propane fired grilled, located outside the restaurant.

Photo:  Thinly sliced pieces of tri-tip beef, along with slices of bacon, were grilled to perfection, and then placed in a pan and topped with shredded cheese to melt, blend and finish cooking over indirect heat.  A pan of grilled hot dogs, ready for a bun are warming over indirect heat.

Photo:  After toasting the buns for my sandwich, Chef Matthew topped the bun with gilled tri-tip, bacon, caramelized onion and shredded, melted cheese.  Great sandwich!

Photo:  The last step before wrapping up the sandwich is the tangy barbecue sauce, which added an amazing taste to this delicious sandwich.

Photo:  Meet Chef Matthew, who hands me an amazing tri-tip sandwich that he just grilled, and custom made to my tastes.  Matthew is a talented chef and a great guy!

Photo:  I toast Chef Matthew, House of Oliver, and all that's good in the world, with an amazing "West Coast Firefall" IPA, on tap, brewed by  Rebellion Brewery, a local brewery, located in nearby Auburn.  After the toast, it was time to get busy with my delicious tri-tip sandwich.

Photo:  My "BBQ Tri-Tip Sandwich," ready to enjoy!  As my luck had it, I was the third customer to enjoy a sandwich, on this premiere day of barbecue for House of Oliver at The Fountains.  Chef Matthew had wrapped the sandwich with butcher paper, and cut it in half, for easy enjoyment.

The sandwich began with a generous helping of tri-tip beef, cut into thin strips, seasoned, marinated and expertly grilled on the Weber propane-fired grill.  Grilled bacon was placed on the tri-tip, which truly elevated it to the next level.  If that wasn't enough, the talented chef added melted, shredded cheese... oh my!

As my sandwich was being prepared, I was asked if I wanted grilled, caramelized onions... sign me up!  ... as onions add the "extra mile" to any sandwich.

The tri-tip, bacon, onions and cheese were placed on buttered steak roll, which was toasted on the grill, and topped with barbecue sauce, Texas style.  The completed sandwich was wrapped in butcher paper, cut in half, and placed in a cardboard box, for take out, or to enjoy in the tiny dining room, or outside on one of the many picnic tables.

Mustard, mayonnaise and dill pickle relish were offered inside, but this sandwich was so delicious that it didn't need any enhancements!

My first bite... oh my! ... simply delicious!  The tri-tip beef was moist, tender and grilled perfectly.  Combine the meat with bacon, cheese, caramelized onion, barbecue sauce, on a buttered, toasted steak roll, and you get the idea... Chef Matthew created an amazing tri-tip sandwich!

Talk about fine dining with a view!  You can enjoy the atmosphere inside the cozy, micro dining room, or relax outside and enjoy the beauty and excitement of The Fountains at Roseville.  It's all yours... along with craft beer on tap, wine, mixed drinks, small bites and the occasional grilled cuisine... served by friendly staff who treat you like royalty.

Enjoy the good times and fine dining at House of Oliver - The Fountains, located in the middle of The Fountains at Roseville, in Roseville, CA.
