Guy's For Lunch opened to rave reviews, back in early 2015,  and has earned a reputation in Placer County, and in the greater Sacramento area, of serving some of the best sandwiches in the area.  Silly me...  I'm a 30-minute hike from Guy's.... and it took me YEARS to pay another visit, to enjoy Guy's For Lunch, and the amazing lunch cuisine the restaurant offers...

As with all restaurant reviews I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.

Friday morning, December 02, 2022, just before the 11:00 opening time of Guy's For Lunch. The restaurant is open, and I'm ready to enjoy one of the best sandwiches that you could ever imagine.

Photo:  As I entered the restaurant, I was greeted by Mr. Guy Manwaring, who actually remembered my name from my previous visit, several years ago.  Note the menu on the wall, which changes frequently.

Photo:  You place your order from the overhead menu, pay for it at the counter, choose a table, and when your order is ready, it will be brought to your table by a friendly staff member.  I call this the "Taqueria format" and that's the way things work at Guy's For Lunch.

You can also place your order by phone, or online, if that's you're dining preference.  During my visit, there were many "to-go" orders, which seems to be the preference of many diners.  Guy's For Lunch offers catering services; check out their website.

I had just placed my order, and Guy was at the counter, taking orders and greeting diners.  From the counter, you get a great view into the kitchen from the open window.  I LOVE open kitchens!

Photo:  As you place your order, you can look into the kitchen, and watch the talented staff at work.

Photo:  The magic happens in Guy's kitchen, and it's all visable when you place your order, thanks to the mostly open kitchen.

Photo:  The dining room is quite small, compact, but very comfortable.  On this late Friday morning, just after the restaurant opened, I was the first and only diner, but it didn't take long for other diners to arrive, as Guy's For Lunch has achieved an iconic reputation in the greater Sacramento area, for dishing out some of the best sandwiches on the planet.

Photo:  Mr. Guy Manwaring, the super friendly owner of the restaurant, takes an order from a customer.  Note the board above the window to the kitchen that posts "Today's Soups."  I couldn't resist the "Chicken Tortilla" soup, but Guy's chili severely tempted my taste buds...

Photo:  The menu offers sandwiches, salads, soup and combos.  I love the "Soup and Salad" combo.

Photo:  The complete menu at Guy's For Lunch, including the "Secret" menu selections.

Photo:  Meet my friendly host, Sean, who brought my bowl of "Chicken Tortilla" soup to me with a smile.  I chose "Chicken Tortilla" soup from the menu, which changes daily.

Photo:  I'm a happy guy, as I prepare to enjoy a bowl of "Chicken Tortilla" soup from Guy's For Lunch, in Roseville, CA.

Photo:  When you pay a visit to Guy's For Lunch, a "must-have" is soup, and one of today's choices was "Chicken Tortilla Soup."  Guy always has his award-winning chili, and a couple choices of soup, which change daily.

Guy's soup begins with an amazing broth, and you can taste that it's made in-house, and not from a can!  Mixed in with the rich broth was lots of shredded chicken, onion, chili peppers and... to no surprise... corn tortillas.  As an added attraction, there were lots of spices which added robust flavor, but no heat.

The bowl of soup was topped with toasted, seasoned and crunchy croutons, made in-house, like everything Guy's For Lunch does.

When you're looking for an amazing bowl of soup, you'll find it at Guy's For Lunch!  Come for the soup, but stay for the sandwich, which just might be the best sandwich you'll ever find in Placer County,

Photo:  Sean brings my "main" lunch to me, which is "The Cali," which is likely to be the best sandwich you'll find in western Placer County.

My sandwich and chips were brought to my table... maybe four minutes after my bowl of soup arrived.  Can you say FAST service?  I wasn't expecting such fast service!

Photo:  I'm a happy "foodie," as Sean took my photo, as I'm ready to enjoy my "The Cali" along with a bowl of Chicken Tortilla Soup."  Wow!  I had barely enough time to take a sample of my soup before the sandwich and chips arrived.  Guy's For Lunch delivers outstanding service!

Photo:  From the "Secret" menu, I went with "The Cali."  Like all sandwiches on the menu, "The Cali" comes with a bag of chips as your side dish.

The menu simply describes "The Cali" as, "The Cali is hot pastrami with Swiss cheese, avocado, bacon, tomato, mayo, spicy mustard on a sourdough bun."  I have two words to describe this sandwich:  Simply amazing!

The foundation of the sandwich was a large, very fresh sourdough roll, which was lightly toasted, and buttered with mayonnaise.  The topping starts with sliced tomatoes, bacon - oh my!" and then comes the pastrami... delicious, sliced perfectly, and lots of it.  On top of the pastrami there is Swiss cheese melted simply perfectly.  Top off the sandwich which fresh avocado slices and a little more mayonnaise on the bun.

The included bag of chips were a small bag of "Lay's" potato chips, which are simply delicious, but nothing special and very commercial, so to say.

Anyway you look at it, "The Cali" is a delicious sandwich, and a delight for anybody who is a "foodie" and a lover of sandwiches.

Photo:  "The Cali..."  You can't find a better sandwich anywhere in Placer County, the greater Sacramento area, or maybe even the world!  Toasted sourdough roll, sliced tomato, bacon, mayonnaise, pastrami and avocado. Combine all of the "foodie" goodness, along with the amazingly friendly hospitality at Guy's For Lunch, and you can't find a more delicious sandwich anywhere on the planet.

Guy's For Lunch has achieved quite a reputation in the greater Sacramento area, and has acquired iconic status since their opening in early 2015.  Their reputation is  well-deserved, as Guy's For Lunch serves maybe the best sandwiches in the area, according to area "foodies" and the local news media.  Me too...

Guy's For Lunch... you're "go-to" guy-for-lunch in Roseville, CA.

Back on May 02, 2015, I paid my first visit to Guy's For Lunch...

Guy's For Lunch opened just a few weeks ago, and ever since they opened, I've been hearing people say wonderful things about this fine sandwich restaurant, and reading the mostly positive online reviews.  It seems like everybody raves about the delicious food, and the friendly staff.  This was a restaurant that I HAD to visit!

Photo:  Guy's For Lunch is located in the Arbor View Plaza shopping center, and offers lots of free, easy and safe parking.  For the last few months, I'd been watching this restaurant under construction, but it wasn't until Saturday, May 02, 2015 that I was able to pay a visit.

Photo:  As you walk in the door, you arrive at the order counter, where you'll immediately receive a warm, cheerful greeting.  There is drink cooler to the right, in case you're not interested in fountain drinks, and the menu is on the wall, not shown in this photo.  The kitchen is the window immediately behind the counter, and the small-dining room is to the right of the counter.  Note the "Today's Soups" on the whiteboard above the kitchen window.  On any given day, there are two different varieties of soup available.  Guy's For Lunch is very apropos for the name of the restaurant, as they're only open Monday through Saturday from 1100 to 1500.

Photo:  The menu is on the wall, to the right of the order counter.  If you're interested in "Today's Soups," check out the whiteboard above the kitchen window.  Guy's also has a limited about of desert items, such as chocolate chip cookies, which are listed on their hand-out menu, and their web site.  Before visiting Guy's, I checked out their menu online, and I already decided that Pulled Pork was today's choice.

Photo:  The small dining room features a few tables, with a long row of chairs against the wall, along with a couple of outdoor tables in front of the restaurant.  The soda fountain is at the rear of the dining room.  Check out that custom clock on the wall!  I "opened up" the restaurant at 1100 on Saturday morning, so for the first few minutes, I was the only customer, which suits me well, as it's easier to take photos, and the staff has more time to answer my many questions.  By the time I left, there was a steady parade of customers in the restaurant, so my timing was perfect.

Photo:  Guy's For Lunch is owned by Guy and Kathy Manwaring, and staffed by Guy, Kathy, their three daughters, and other friendly staff.  Today, I had the pleasure to be served by daughter Brooke, who is at the left of the photo. She's flanked by her dad, Guy, and sister Katy.  Guy stopped by my table to chat, and welcome me to his fine deli, which was very gracious of him.  I commented to him how friendly Brooke is, and he thanked me and told me that it was my "lucky" day, as she attends school at Nevada State University, in Reno, and was only in Roseville for the weekend.

Photo:  When you place your order at the counter, you can look into the kitchen, and watch the friendly staff prepare your order, using nothing but the finest, fresh ingredients.

Photo:  Meet Brooke Manwaring, my friendly server, who delivers my lunch with a radiant smile.  As you walk into the deli, she greets you with a very cheery "hello" and makes you feel at home.  The service is friendly and very fast, as my order arrived at my table less than five minutes after I placed it.

Photo:  It is a rare occasion when I pass on a pulled pork sandwich, and before visiting Guy's, I surfed the web and previewed their menu, and today's choice was pulled pork.  The menu describes a Pulled Pork sandwich as, "slow cooked with Guy's spicy BB sauce."  Quite a modest description for such a delicious sandwich!  All sandwiches come with a pickle slice, and a bag of "Dirty" brand cracked pepper and sea salt potato chips.  I had read rave reviews about Guy's homemade potato salad, so I ordered a bowl of it on the side.  I wasn't disappointed, as the potato salad was delicious!

Photo:  Guy's delicious pulled pork sandwich, and the pickle slice.  The pork was moist, delicious, and plentiful, and the sauce was tangy, but not at all spicy.  The sandwich was served on a fresh sourdough roll, that was crispy around the edges, and soft and tender in the middle, which is that way I love it.  Despite the moist pulled pork, the sandwich wasn't at all soggy.  Just plain wonderful!  I don't know where guy gets his pickles, but they are definitely an enhancement to the meal.

Photo:  Friendly Brooke was gracious to snap my photo, on my request.  I sat in a table at the very front of the restaurant, so I could watch the staff in action, and easily take photos.

Photo:  As I as finishing my lunch, Guy stopped by and gave me a "shooter" of his Chicken Salad.  Oh, this is good! Thanks, Guy for your excellent hospitality!

There is nothing that I love more than to support a local, one-of-a-kind, family owned and operated business, and that's an easy thing to do, as the staff at Guy's For Lunch treat you like family, the price is right, and the food is delicious.  If you're looking for a delicious sandwich, served in a very family-friendly atmosphere, look no further than Guys For Lunch.
