When you "Google" or "Yelp" a restaurant in the small town of Chester, California, what restaurant comes to mind? Kopper Kettle Cafe, of course, as they're the best-known restaurant in town.  As I was passing through town, I just HAD to pay a visit to Kopper Kettle Cafe, so as a dedicated "foodie," webmaster, photographer and "Yelper," I could see what Kopper Kettle is all about...

As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.

Photo:  The sign and the motto of the restaurant read, "Fine Homemade Cookin'," and that's a good reason to visit Kopper Kettle Cafe, in Chester.

Photo:  It's around 0730 on Friday morning, August 23, 2019, and we've arrived at Kopper Kettle Cafe for breakfast.

As you walk in, you're greeted with a great counter, and a friendly staff member who will invite you to sit anywhere you choose when the restaurant is lightly seated.  I arrived later than the rest of my party, who were already comfortable seated on the inviting outside patio.

As you scroll down this web page, and check out my visit from over five years ago, you note little change to the main dining room, with the exception of a television monitor, located near the window to the kitchen.  All of the rustic charm that the mountain town of Chester has to offer is still present...

Photo: Since this morning was perfectly clear, with a temperature in the low 70's, we chose to dine outside, on the comfortable patio.  Our friendly hostess, Candice, keeps our coffee mugs full.  Note the custom mug, sporting the Kopper Kettle Cafe "brand."

Photo:  The breakfast menu features all of your favorites, and covers all bases for breakfast lovers.  Note that Kopper Kettle Cafe is serious about breakfast, as breakfast is served anytime the restaurant is open.

Photo:  The lunch menu has all of your favorites, including burger.  I was torn between a burger, or a chicken fried steak, but the steak won out.

Photo:  Candice takes Robert's breakfast order.  This photo gives a good idea of what the comfortable patio looks like.  It's ideal if you're in the mood to dine outdoors on a beautiful morning.

Photo:  Meet Candice, our friendly and efficient server, who greeted us with a smile, kept our coffee cups full, and provided lots of friendly conversation.  She pauses to allow me to take her photo, as she brings "California Benedict," toast, along with "Pesto Omelette."

Candice is an amazing hostess, a nice person, and somebody with a photographic memory, as she remembered me from my last visit, back in August, 2014, which was amazing, as I've lost 30+ pounds and changed my appearance dramatically.

Photo:  Candice snaps our photo as Dan, your author, Greg, Robert, and Michael, with his back turned toward the camera, prepare to enjoy a delicious meal.

Photo:  Greg ordered a "Pesto Omelette," along with home style potatoes, and sourdough toast.  He loved his omelet.

"Pesto Omelette" includes three eggs, the choice of several varieties of cheese - Greg chose American - mushrooms, bell peppers, tomato, onions, and is topped with avocado slices.

Photo:  Robert's choice of breakfast was a "California Benedict," which is an standard "Eggs Benedict" enhanced with avocado.  Robert chose hash browns, along with an order of sourdough toast to complete his breakfast.

The menu reads, "California Benedict, with avocado, includes two eggs with ham, served over an English muffin, with your choice of Hollandaise sauce, or Pesto sauce."  Robert chose Hollandaise sauce, which seemed like a wise choice to me.  Obviously, I didn't sample his breakfast, but he said it was delicious, and looking at the presentation, I believe him.

Photo:  Despite the fact it was about 9 in the morning, Michael ordered a "BLT," with an optional side of fruit, which made for a very healthy breakfast.  Hold the mayonnaise!  At Kopper Kettle Cafe, you can choose between the breakfast or lunch items, and order from either menu.

With the "BLT, you get four strips of bacon, tomato, lettuce, and your choice of toast, with makes for a delicious sandwich, any time of the day, and works for breakfast.

Photo:  From the "Breakfast Traditions" menu - breakfast is served anytime the restaurant is open - Dan and I ordered the "Chicken Fried Steak with Country Gravy, and Two Eggs."  The breakfast comes with a choice of hash browns or country potatoes, several varieties of toast, or a biscuit, and after Dan ordered his breakfast, I said, "I'll take the same."  We really decided to up the ante by ordering an optional bowl of country gravy on the side.

The main feature of the meal, the chicken fried steak, was just the right size - about 6 ounces - and was tender, juicy, and melted in your mouth.  You didn't need a knife to cut it, as it was so tender that you could cut a little piece of it off with your fork, pop it into your mouth, and enjoy all of the flavorful goodness.  The batter to meat ratio was perfect, and the batter was crispy fried, delicious, and not at all greasy.  Both the batter and the meat were seasoned just right, and one bite of this delicious chicken fried steak instantly transported me to Texas.  If you've ever been to Texas, you'll know what a real chicken fried steak is all about...

The menu offers a choice between hash browns or country potatoes, and we went with country potatoes.  The potatoes were diced to just the right size, fried to a golden brown on the outside, tender white on the inside, and included diced bell pepper and onions.  Delicious!

The benchmark of a good breakfast chef is when you order your fried eggs over easy, they arrive that way, not runny nor hard.  The eggs were fried perfectly over easy, as ordered, with is a tribute to the skill of the chef.

You can choose from all the common varieties of toast, or order a biscuit, but since the chicken fried steak was covered with gravy, we went with a freshly baked, delicious biscuit, as that seemed like the way to go.  Speaking of the gravy... the steak was covered with gravy, but Dan and I both ordered a bowl of the gravy on the side, with no regrets, and the gravy was FANTASTIC!

Yes, both the gravy on the steak, and the side of gravy with thick, creamy, flavorful, with lots of sausage chunks. Honestly, the gravy was so delicious, and so hearty, that you could order a side of hash browns, cover it with a bowl of gravy, and that would be a perfect breakfast.

All of us absolutely LOVED our breakfasts!  In my case, my breakfast kept me full all day, and when it came to dinner time, I was satisfied with a small salad.

When you're in for a great meal, a friendly diner, and the amazing service and friendship offered by Candice, enjoy a fine meal at Kopper Kitchen Cafe, in beautiful Chester, CA.

Let's go back to August 18, 2014, when I enjoyed breakfast for the first time at this wonderful restaurant.

Photo:  As you walk inside the restaurant, you're greeted by friendly Candice, who says, "sit anywhere."  The restaurant offers a mixture of booths, tables, and counter seating, and the "specials" board greets you as you enter. When I dine alone, I prefer to sit at the counter, so on this August morning, I sat myself at the first stool, visible in the center of the photo.

Photo:  On this early Monday morning, I was able to watch the two female wait staff in action, talking to the cook through the window into the kitchen.  I love candid photos!  It's just a little past 7:30 in the morning on Monday, August 18, 2014, and I'm ready for breakfast at Kopper Kettle Cafe.

Photo:  Kopper Kettle Cafe offers shaded, outdoor dining, but on this early Monday morning, August 18, 2014, nobody, including me, was dining outside.

Photo:  I was amazed at the large, perhaps, 100-gallon aquarium of goldfish, and other freshwater fish that Kopper Kettle Cafe features in their dining room.  The big guy to the right of the photo was GIGANTIC, and I joked with my friendly server, Candice, that the fish is always fresh at Kopper Kettle Cafe.

Photo:  My friendly server, Candice, to the right, and another friendly lady - I didn't get her name - pose for my camera, after placing my wonderful breakfast on the counter.

During my last visit to this fine restaurant,  August 23, 2019, Candice actually remembered me.  Amazing memory!

Photo:  I smile, as Candice takes my photo, as I'm about ready to enjoy breakfast on this early Monday morning. The restaurant opens at 0700, and I arrived shortly after opening, as I was heading home from a 5-night camping trip in Lassen Volcanic National Park.

Photo:  Kopper Kettle Cafe is serious about breakfast, and their breakfast menu offers a wide array of breakfast favorites.  After reviewing their awesome menu, I narrowed my choice down to Polish Sausage, e.g., Kielbasa, eggs, hash brown potatoes, and my de facto standard of biscuits and gravy.  Quite a breakfast!  Not only was it delicious, but it was filling, but it kept me going for the rest of the day, as I made the three-hour drive back to Roseville.  I don't say anything about the breakfast, except to say it was delicious, as the photo says it all.

Kopper Kettle Cafe serves American "diner cuisine," for your dining pleasure, but that's what you're looking for, when you're visiting Chester, right?  From the friendly service, to the delicious food, Kopper Kettle Cafe treats you like a member of their family, so you can enjoy a delicious meal, in style, at Kopper Kettle Cafe.
