After you've spent a long day of railfanning the world-famous Tehachapi Loop, what you crave most of all is a burger... and I mean not a "fast food" burger, but a really good, "old school" burger, crafted and lovingly made by hand, one-by-one. If that's what you have in mind, and if you're in the small high desert town of Mojave, CA, Primo Burgers should be your destination burger "fix" restaurant of choice. As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences. Photo: If you're in the mood for a quality burger, and you're in Mojave, CA, look no further than Primo Burgers. It's 6:30 on Thursday evening, May 24, 2018, and after a hard day of taking photos of mainline railroad action at nearby Tehachapi Loop, I'm ready for a Mojave burger, and a mountain of fries to go along with it. Photo: Just as you walk into the restaurant, a sign announces the daily specials. I was really, really, really tempted by the fish, shrimp and sides... I nearly had a heart attack over the fried fish... but I stayed firm on my path in order to enjoy the best burger that Mojave has to offer. Photo: As you enter the restaurant, the first thing you notice is the counter. Like many taquerias and semi-sit down restaurants, you look at the menu, which is posted to the left of the order counter, place your order, pay for it, and wait for your name to be called. I noticed that Primo Burger was doing a lot of take-out orders on this early Thursday evening, as the gal in the photo has order food "to-go," and is texting on her phone as she waits for her order. Average order time seems to be around 15 minutes, as your burgers and fries are cooked as you order them, as this is not a "fast food" restaurant. Photo: Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at Primo Burgers, as the menu is posted near the order window. I can't wait to enjoy breakfast at this wonderful restaurant. Photo: The dining room is nothing special, but it's clean and very comfortable. The order counter, along with the "mascot" are at the rear of the photo. Photo: Speaking of the "mascot," every Yelp review pictures this guy, so to make this article complete, I just had to take a photo of him. I truly was tempted by the fish special offered on the "special" blackboard as you walk in the restaurant, but since this was my first visit, I steeled my resolve and went with the "Primo Burger" which is the signature offering on the menu. Photo: I stand at the order window, ready to place my order for the "signature" burger on the menu. Photo: After I placed my order of a "Primo Burger" and a large order of fries, I take a peek into the kitchen from the order window and watch the staff in action. Photo: OK, I'm dating myself, but Laurel and Hardy are two of my favorite "heroes." Their picture is posted in the dining room, but it is very doubtful that either of them had the chance to visit this fine restaurant, as they have been gone for many years. However, I would bet these guys would love everything about Primo Burgers. Photo: After placing my order, about 10 minutes later I was rewarded with a plate of large fries, and a friendly smile from Christie, who brought my fries to me with a smile. Photo: My large order of fries. Actually, this could be described as a "mountain of fries," and was way more than I could eat. But the "large" order of fries was only $.60 more than the "small," so I threw all of my caution to the wind and ordered a "large," which came out on a plate and truly made a "mountain" of fries... Photo: Just a couple of minutes after my fries arrived, Christie brought my "Primo Burger" to me, on a plate, with a warm smile. Photo: I'm all smiles as I prepare to enjoy my "Primo Burger," and large order of fries. Photo: Here is it, the "Primo Burger," which is the signature burger on Primo Burgers menu. It's interesting as this burger isn't on the menu - you have to ask for it - but it's worth effort, and worth every penny. It starts with a half pound of beef cooked your way - medium for me - on a premium bun, loaded with cheese, bacon, lettuce, onion, pickles and more. Such a delicious burger! The burger was so good that I didn't apply mustard, mayonnaise or ketchup; I just savored every bite, just it arrived from the kitchen. Photo: My "Primo Burger" and fries make for an amazing dinner on this Thursday evening in Mojave... The major highway has bypassed Mojave, but delicious burgers are alive and well in Mojave, at Primo Burgers. If it's a burger you're interested in, or perhaps breakfast, Primo Burgers has all of your bases covered... Primo Burgers Copyright(c) 2018 eRench Productions. All rights reserved.
