Family friendly dining, a long time Bishop institution, good food, along with friendly service. That's a good description of Jack's Restaurant, located in downtown Bishop, California. As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences. Photo: Jack's Restaurant has been a iconic dining institution in Bishop for many years, and features some of the best "Americana" diner cuisine that the eastern Sierra Nevada region has to offer. Photo: It's a little after 7:30 on Tuesday morning, November 27, 2018, and we're ready to enjoy a great breakfast at Jack's Restaurant, in Bishop, CA. This is the view of the main dining room, as you walk in the door, and your're seated, and greeted by the friendly staff. Photo: The breakfast menu welcomes you to just about everything you ever could dream of to start your day off the right way. Photo: Our server, Erica, brings breakfast to our table. Photo: My brother Michael, and I look forward to a great breakfast. Thanks, Erica, for snapping our photo. Photo: Michael applies Jack's hot sauce to his breakfast. Yes, Jack's Restaurant, which has been open since 1947, has their own version of hot sauce, which we enjoyed. Jack's hot sauce is so good that Michael and I each took a bottle home with us, as we've fans of local hot sauce. Photo: My breakfast from the "Breakfast Combos" menu was sausage, hash brown potatoes, eggs over easy, and a side of biscuit and gravy. Delicious breakfast at Jack's Restaurant, in Bishop, CA! Meanwhile, back on Monday evening, November 05, 2018, I enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Jack's... Photo: It's just after 7 in the evening on Monday, November 05, 2018, and I have an appetite, and Jack's Restaurant is the place to go in Bishop for an early evening dinner. As you enter the restaurant, you're greeted with a counter of in-house baked pies, and a friendly meeter/greeter guy. I'm not a huge fan of desert, so the pies didn't really grab my attention, but the friendly guy who greeted me, Isreal, made me feel at home, and welcomed me with a smile. Photo: If you linger for a moment at the pie counter, you'll et a peek into the rustic dining room. The sign that reads "Hostess Will Seat You" isn't exactly accurate, but I told Isreal that I wanted to sit at the counter. When I dine alone, I prefer to sit at the counter, as it gives me a great opportunity to watch - and take photos - of the staff in action, and to pursue the art of "chit-chat." Photo: The restaurant has two dining rooms, but due to light seating on this early Monday evening, only one dining room was seated. The decor is rustic and definitely reflects the spirit of Bishop, the community, and Inyo County. Bishop is a four-seasons town, and a hub of any outdoor activity that you can imagine, including hunting, fishing, exploring, four wheeling, mountain biking, hiking, bird watching... you get the idea. The decor of Jack's Restaurant reflects all of the amazing outdoor recreation opportunities that Bishop has to offer. Photo: Jack's dinner menu features all of your favorites, and if you're a "desert person," you've come to the right place. I was a little disappointed that burgers weren't on the menu, but I suspected that all I'd have to do is to "ask" if I really desired a burger, but when my eyes rested on "Fish and Chips," the thought of a burger tonight for dinner immediately vanished. Check out the "Chocolate Milk" section at the bottom of the menu. Is it true the "Small" size costs more than the "Medium," or is this just a misprint? Photo: I had the pleasure to meet Isreal, who met me as I entered, and sat me, any my server, Rachel, who provided some of the best restaurant service that Bishop has to offer. Isreal and I got to chatting about photography - I was engaged in taking photos during my visit to Jack's - and he pulled out his phone and showed me some amazing sunrise and sunset photos he'd recently taken in the area. It seems Isreal is a photographer, so he and I had a lot to chat about. Photo: The other dining room wasn't seated tonight, but features the same "outdoorsy" decor as the other dining room. Photo: One of the many humorous plaques hanging on the wall... Photo: This interesting plaque was hung near the entrance to the kitchen, and really grabbed my attention. Photo: Meet Rachel, my server, who brings my order of "Fish and Chips," along with a bottle of malt vinegar, to me with a smile. Between friendly Rachael, and friendly host Isreal, I was treated to an amazingly friendly dining experience, as these fine people treated me like family. Photo: Thanks, Rachel, for snapping my photo, as I prepare to enjoy an amazing dinner of fish and chips. Note my iPhone that is still lit up... I was still taking notes when my dinner arrived, which was only about ten minutes after placing my order. Rachel and Jack's Restaurant offer FAST service! Photo: I ordered "Fish and Chips" from the menu, as I'd been craving a dinner like this for a month or two, and tonight, I wasn't disappointed. You get two pieces of perfectly deep fried, breaded fish, fries, "chips," cole slaw - truly a bonus - along with tartar sauce, and a bottle of malt vinegar. I appreciated the fact that Rachel brought out the vinegar, but I definitely prefer tartar sauce, as that's my dip of choice. OK, I confess, I made ample use of the ketchup, especially on the fries. The fries didn't need ketchup, as they were "standalone delicious," but the "kid" in me brings out the need to dip fries in ketchup. As the photo shows, this meal was delicious! All of tonight's dinner "bases" were covered at Jack's Restaurant in fine style! You can't go wrong when you dine at Jack's Restaurant, as the food is delicious, the staff is super friendly, the dining room is comfortable, and the restaurant is close to everything that Bishop, and the eastern Sierra has to offer. Oh yes, you'll love the "comfort food" that Jack's is famous for... Jack's Restaurant Copyright(c) 2018 eRench Productions. All rights reserved. We've been on the web since December 22, 2002.
