The newest restaurant to the Merced dining scene, as of this writing - June 2017 - is Bobcat Diner, located in a small, upscale shopping center on the northeast side of town. Bobcat Diner offers a unique blend of a contemparary dining experience, fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and a definite "camping-like feel" during your dining experience. As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences. Photo: As of this writing, Bobcat Diner, opened February 4, 2017, is the newest independent restaurant to enter the Merced dining scene. The restaurant is located in a small, upscale shopping center, on the fast-growing northeast side of town. Photo: As you enter the restaurant, you'll note the fresh, modern decor, that almost has a "camp-like feel" to it. You can enjoy your meal at the bar, and order beer or wine to go with it. Today is mid-Sunday morning, June 4, 2017, and we're at Bobcat Diner to enjoy breakfast. Photo: Here is one page of the breakfast menu. The other page has pancakes, French toast, pastries, and other items that didn't interest me. Photo: Our friendly hostess, Daniella, takes Sharlene's order with a smile. Note the comfortable counter and bar in the rear of the photo. Photo: Danielle brings a portion of our order with a smile. Danielle is a charming, friendly person, who gave our party of four excellent service. Photo: Today's dining buddies, left to right, your author, Sharlene Rench, along with Greg and Bonnie Wilson. For those of you that don't know me, Bonnie just happens to be my sister. Thanks, Daniella, for snapping the photo. Sharlene and Bonnie both ordered identical "Veggie Scrambles," and were digging into them before I could take a photo. Photo: Greg ordered a "Southwest Scramble," which is hash browns, Applewood bacon, bell peppers, onions, beans, corn, pepper jack cheese, avocado, pico de gallo and sour cream. Toast, of course. He loved his breakfast, but wasn't overly fond of the beans. Photo: From the "Platter" section of the breakfast menu, I went the "Omnivore" route. You get several choices of meat, and I chose a hot link, and it was hot (spicy,) just the way I like it. My eggs over-easy were cooked perfectly, along with my hash browns, which were crispy-golden on the outside, and chewy on the inside. As you can see, they're a bit wider than most hash browns, but are delicious. I loved the grilled veggies and the pico de gallo that came with the breakfast. I definitely enjoyed my breakfast at Bobcat Cafe. Bobcat Diner is a definite welcome addition to the Merced dining scene, and in the coming months, should prove a popular place to enjoy a cold beer and good food, for all Mercedians to enjoy. It's a great place to enjoy "comfort" food, friendly company, in a very relaxed atmosphere. I look forward to future visits at Bobcat Diner in Merced.
