Bar B Q Pit restaurant has been a Merced institution for ever!  If you're a long-time Mercedian, you'll recall, back in the day, it was known as Cecil's Golden Chicken - not I'm dating myself - but for the last 30 years, it's been known as Bar B Q Pit.  Old school, Merced dining, barbecue and more...

As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.

Photo:  "Prime Rib and Eggs" is a regular offering on Sunday mornings at Bar B Q Pit, located in Merced, CA.  It's Sunday, October 06, 2024, and my friend Dan W. is enjoying this fine breakfast.  Prime rib, country style potatoes, eggs, toast, with endless cups of coffee to enjoy.  Such a great Sunday morning breakfast!

If you're a long time resident of Merced, you may recall this restaurant started out in the late 1950's as Cecil's Golden Chicken, which lasted until the late 1960's when it morphed into Bar B Q Pit, and has been an iconic Merced diner ever since.

Photo:  Thank you, my friend Dan Weir, for sending me the photo of the breakfast heenoyed on Sunday morning, November 13, 2022.  What could be be better than enjoying a breakfast of menudo, corn tortillas and all of the extras?

Photo:  Bar B Q Pit, in it's present form, or it's former self, has been a Merced dining institution for ever!  Saturday, June 21, 2014, I'm joining my friend Dan Weir to enjoy breakfast at one of Merced's finest breakfast restaurants.

Photo:  The main dining room.  No, it ain’t fancy, but it's family-friendly, clean and very comfortable.

Photo:  Of course the decor is very "retro" and period cars, and "old school" Coca Cola memorabilia are the rage, which always contributes to the atmosphere.

Photo:  Our friendly server, Lisa, who is a personal friend of my buddy Dan Weir, takes our order.  Note the bicycle in the center of the photo... what?  Doesn't the decor remind you of a Route 66 diner?  Whatever the case, I love it!

Photo:  Saturday morning breakfast at Bar B Q Pit.  My buddy Dan Weir on the left, and "me" on the right enjoy identical breakfasts.  Dan recommended the Cajun Chicken Fried Steak, so I followed his reccomendation; check out the next photo to see what it's all about.  Thanks to friendly Lisa for taking the photo.

Photo:  When you choose a "Cajun Chicken Fried Steak" breakfast, you have many options, such as... Hash browns or home-style potatoes?  Or... beans?  Bisket, tortillas or toast? ... What type of bread?  How do you want your eggs cooked?  The varieties are endless and Bar B Q Pit makes it "your way."  I trust my friend Dan's breakfast opinion totally, so I followed him, and we ordered the same thing:  Cajun Chicken Fried Steak.  Oh yeah!

Mind you, the "Cajun Chicken Fried Steak" breakfast is not on the menu, as the menu advertises a "Chicken Fried Steak."  Since Dan is a regular at the restaurant - he eats breakfast at the restaurant every Sunday before church - he knows everybody, and he knows the protocol.  So, upon his suggestion, we both asked for the "Cajun option," which includes Cajun seasoning into their already awesome gravy.  So, if you're a lover of chicken fried steak, home style potatoes, with a bit of a kick, this breakfast if for you!  I loved it!!!

"Cajun Chicken Fried Steak" isn't on the menu, as you have to ask.  But, just "Go For lt!"  The meat was so tender, as you didn't need a knife to cut it, the gravy was thick, spicy - not hot - and totally delicious.  Eggs over easy were cooked perfectly, and the home style potatoes were GREAT, including diced onion and pepper.  Truly a great breakfast!

When you're in the mood for a great breakfast in Merced, look no further than Bar B Q Pit, as they have all the bases covered.
