Not-so-new to Merced diners, but new to me, is Five Ten Bistro, which takes it's name from their address at 510 West Main Street, in lovely Bob Hart Square.  California bistro at it's finest, with a elegant touch that caters to the cuisine of Merced diners.

As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.

Five Ten Bistro has been a Merced dining destination for quite some time, and it was about time that I was able to pay a visit to this amazing restaurant... again... after a long hiatus of nearly eight years.

Photo:  It's early afternoon on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, and I've arrived at Five Ten Bistro to enjoy an amazing lunch.

Photo:  On this early afternoon in mid May, the patio was very popular for dining, as the weather was warm and sunny, which made outdoor dining a pleasure.  The restaurant features a large patio for outdoor dining and is known among Merced residents as a great outdoor dining destination.

Photo:  As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice the small bar with only four stools. The bar is compact and comfortable, and offers every kind of mixed drink that you would enjoy.

Photo:  On this early Wednesday afternoon, the main dining room was empty, as all diners were enjoying the beautiful day outside on the patio.

Photo:  The second page of the "Lunch" menu features burgers, not to mention "Seafood, Steaks and Chicken," where I went for the fish and chips.

Photo:  My friendly server, Xziana, brings my Modelo beer to me, with a smile.

Photo:  Happy diners enjoying this beautiful afternoon on the patio.  Bob Harte square is located in the middle of downtown Merced, and offers a relaxing dining experience.

Photo:  From the dining room, you can get a great view of the kitchen, and the talented staff in action.

Photo:  A pint of Modelo beer, complete with a slice of lime, made a perfect "side dish" to my lunch of fish and chips at Five Ten Bistro, located in Merced, CA.

Photo:  Meet Xziana, my friendly server, who brought my lunch of fish and chips to me with a smile, behind her mask.  On this date in early May, 2021, Merced County was still mandated to "mask up," as per state orders.

Photo:  Thanks, Xziana, for taking my photo, as I get ready to enjoy an amazing lunch of fish and chips, at Five Ten Bistro, located in Merced, CA.

Photo:  From the "Seafood, Steaks and Chicken" section of the menu, today I went with "Beer Batter Fish and Chips," which happens to be one of my all-time favorites.  The menu simply describes this amazing entree as, "Home made beer batter, white fish and French fries, chipotle and lemon garlic aioli dipping sauces."  Such a simple description for such an elegant meal!

Five Ten Bristro give you FOUR pieces of perfectly seasoned white fish - most likely cod - and battered like you'd expect if you were dining at a London pub.  The fish was deep fried to a perfect golden, crispy brown on the outside, and inside the batter, the fish was tender, juicy and white, just the way perfect deep fried fish should be. The batter-to-fish was just right, and Five Ten Bistro seems to have "nailed" fish and chips, any way you look at it. Four pieces of perfect fish makes for an amazing and filling meal.

The chips, or as 510 calls them, the "French fries..." were simply a work of art.  They were deep fried to a light golden brown on the outside, and chewy, juicy white tender on the inside, as perfect fries should be.

Dipping sauce... OK, that's another subject, but if you're dining at a fish and chips restaurant in London, you get vinegar for "sauce."  Five Ten Bistro got my attention, as they did not offer vinegar - much to my surprise - but no less than THREE dipping sauces were offered on the side.  In all of the "fish and chip years" I've eaten through, I've never seen a restaurant that offered THREE dipping sauces!

Three dipping sauces were included with this amazing lunch, and the sauces were ranch, ketchup, and "garlic aioli" as per the description of the menu.  I have NEVER enjoyed fish and chips with three dipping sauces before today's visit to 510 Bistro, as one usually expects to find malt vinegar or ketchup for "dipping" pleasure.

Four pieces of delicious fish, a large helping of fries and three dipping sauces... Five Ten Bistro serves delicious fish and chips, and much more.  No wonder "510" is a "dining destination" for Mercedians, and those who appreciate fine food!

Back in July, 2013, I enjoyed a previous visit to Five Ten Bistro with family...

Photo:  Five Ten Bistro is located in Bob Hart Square, at the "heart," no pun intended, of revitalized downtown Merced.  If offers shaded, outdoor dining, in a park-like setting, but on this blistering-hot mid-June afternoon, we opted to dine indoors and enjoy the air conditioned dining room.  Note the attractive fountain, which we were tempted to jump into, but we restrained ourselves and didn't... as we retreated to the cool and comfortable dining room.

Photo:  Our friendly server, Corrina, takes our orders.  Photo shows the spacious, Mediterranean-influenced dining room, and the mostly-open kitchen to the left of the photo.  Five Ten Bistro offers a wide selection of craft beers, to compliment your meal.

Photo:  Lunch arrives with a smile!

Photo:  Corrina smiles, as she places my niece, Lauren's vegetarian lunch on the table.  Lauren holds a plate that Corrina brought to us, free of charge, to feed Lauren's year-old daughter, Rachael, - my great-niece- a complementary lunch of watermelon.  Love it!!!

Photo:  Members of our family, enjoying lunch at Five Ten Bistro.  From left to right:  Lauren Stokes, Greg Wilson, Owen Wilson, partially hidden by his dad, Aiko Wilson, Sharlene Rench, Eric Rench, and Bonnie Wilson.  Thanks to our charming and friendly server, Corrina, for snapping the photo.

Photo:  I love burgers, and avocado makes an already delicious burger even better, so I enjoyed a "Southwest Burger" for my lunch.  The menu describes a the burger as "Avocado, Pepper Jack Cheese, Chipotle Ranch, Fresh Salsa..." but I describe it as delicious, and if you're a fan of a great burger, this is one burger to enjoy.  Note the mountain of large-cut fries, perfectly deep fried, and garnished with chopped cilantro.  Folks, this is a delicious lunch!

Such a great restaurant, and such a great burger!  Not to mention attractive prices, superior service, a great selection of craft beers, and on this hot, 105-degree June afternoon... a very cool, comfortable, air conditioned dining room.  Note:  We usually prefer to dine outside, and Five Ten Bistro offers ample shady, comfortable dining on the patio but today, we couldn't resist the lure of the air conditioned dinning room.  Five Ten Bistro is a great place to enjoy wonderful food!
