We're always on the lookout for a new breakfast restaurant, and the other day, Sacramento Breakfast Club charter member David was driving along Folsom Blvd. and spotted Sunrise 2 Sunset Grill. Doing a web search, we noticed the restaurant is a fairly new player, and since we're constantly on the lookout for new breakfast restaurants, it was decided the meeting of November 22, 2013 would be held at Sunrise 2 Sunset Grill.

Photo:  We arrived a little bit before 0900 on this clear, Friday morning, to a mostly empty restaurant.  Our red van enjoyed "rock star" parking!  Sunrise 2 Sunset Grill offers ample safe, easy parking.

Photo:  The dining room is spacious, comfortable, and "squeaky" clean, and offers very flexible dining arrangements.  We chose a table for eight in the middle of the dining room, which fit the six of us very comfortably. To the left of the photo is a coupe of couches can be seen, and out of the photo, a fireplace.  The windows in the front of the dining room are lined with high, barista-style tables for two, and there is a stage for karaoke.

Photo:  Daily specials are advertised on a white board near the bar/counter, where several varieties of beer are on tap.  The high-def tv's carry the popular morning show "Good Day Sacramento."

Photo:  Our friendly server, Heidi, poses with my breakfast of chicken fried steak.  Heidi kept our coffee cups full, and was a very friendly and efficient server.  In response to my question, she said the restaurant opened in June of this year.

Photo:  I chose the chicken fried steak, two eggs over easy, and what the menu describes as "sun" potatoes, which are basically home style potatoes, with diced pepper and onion.  My order of sourdough toast isn't show.  As a surprise, my breakfast included a bowl of vegetable beef soup, which I've never seen included with a chicken fried steak breakfast before today's visit to Sunrise 2 Sunset Grill. Not shown is the plate of sourdough toast.  The chicken fried steak was cooked perfectly, with just enough crispy batter to melt in your mouth, yet it didn't overpower the flavor of the meat.  The sausage gravy was heavenly, with lots of chunks of sausage, which is just the way I like it.  Sun potatoes were golden, crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and the grilled pepper and onion really tasted good.  I really didn't quite know what to make of the vegetable beef soup, served with breakfast, but it was delicious, and Heidi said it was made in-house, and it definitely tasted great.

Photo:  Teri ordered French toast, sausage and scrambled eggs, and an optional side of hash brown potatoes.  At Sunrise 2 Sunset Grill, you get a lot of potatoes on the side!

What do the members of the Sacramento Breakfast Club think of this new restaurant?  We loved the spacious, comfortable dining room, the barista tables (though we didn't sit at them,) the fireplace lounge, the friendly service, the large portions, the reasonable prices, and most of all, the delicious food.  Sunsrise 2 Sunset Grill is a worthy addition to the Sacramento breakfast scene!
