For years, I've been driving past Perko's Café, as it's on my way to work, and for unknown reasons, I'd just never had the opportunity to drop in, to enjoy a fine meal. Everything changed on Friday, February 17, 2012 when the Sacramento Breakfast Club held our bi-monthly meeting at Perko's.
Photo: I drive by Perko's Café every day on the way to work, and until today, l had never taken the opportunity to enjoy a fine meal at Perko's. Maybe it's because this restaurant is a link in a chain? Perko's has a couple dozen restaurants located in central, and northern California, and "our" store is located in the Antelope Crossing Shopping Center, in Antelope, which is in the greater Sacramento area.
Photo: The dining room features a mixture of tables and booths, and the decor could be described as "country-ish." I arrived on-the-dot at 8 O’clock, before the rest of the crew, and as the vanguard of our group, I helped one of the friendly staff members scoot a couple of tables together to accommodate our group.
Photo: As you walk in, you're greeted by the small breakfast counter and the kitchen, behind the counter. You can see into the kitchen through the window towards to rear of the photo, as two of the staff members seem to be doing a bit of brainstorming.
Photo: Our friendly server, Anna, is taking David's order. Perko's breakfast menu is filled with breakfast classics, with lots of skillet dishes, omelets and combination items. It is interesting to note that the menu has the calorie count of each menu item... I definitely feel off the wagon today.
Photo: We had the pleasure to be served by Anna, who is posing - at my request - in the photo with my breakfast order. Anna is super friendly, a great person, and truly helped to make our breakfast meeting enjoyable.
Photo: I ordered one of my favorite breakfast meals of linguica, two fried eggs, homestyle potatoes, and biscuits and gravy. Look at the grill marks on the sausage! Everything, and I mean everything was delicious about this breakfast, as it was cooked perfectly. Note the eggs over easy, which are perfectly cooked. That's a benchmark for a fine breakfast restaurant, when you order eggs over easy and they're cooked... over easy.
Photo: Today's members of the Sacramento Breakfast Club, from left to right: Bev MacLeod, Dan MacLeod, David DeMario, Sara Donnelly, Matt Donnelly, Betty Townsend, Gerry Townsend and Eric Rench. Thanks to friendly Anna for taking this group photo. So the question is, why didn't I stop at this friendly restaurant before? Perko's Café is everything that we hold dear, as the food is outstanding, the portions are huge, informality reins, the price is good, and the staff is super friendly. When you're in the mood for a quality breakfast that will keep you going the rest of the day, look no further than Perko's Café in Antelope. Perko's
