Monday morning, November 21, 2011, the Sacramento Breakfast Club held an emergency meeting at Cricket Country Kitchen, in honor of club alumnus and past president, Brad Holther, who was visiting the Sacramento area from Georgia, where he now lives. You may recall that Brad and many of our members were forced to accept work transfers to Georgia last year, and for the past several months, Brad has been looking forward to attending a club meeting at Cricket, and getting reacquainted with "Mr. Huge," the gigantic chicken fried steak breakfast.
Photo: Cricket Country Kitchen has been in the same location since 1986, long before the Sacramento Breakfast Club was founded. The Harris Ranch Steak and eggs was tempting, but Polish sausage finally won out.
Photo: It's just three days before Thanksgiving, and Cricket is decorated for the holiday. The breakfast counter and kitchen can be seen at the left of the photo. Photo was taken from the front entrance to the dining room.
Photo: Our friendly server Kara brings Sara's breakfast to the table. Kara had quite a job, as we were quite a large group today, but, as usual, she did an outstanding job and kept the coffee pots full.
Photo: Mr. Brad Holther, and his 13-oz chicken fried steak breakfast, known on the menu as "Mr. Huge." Brad had been talking about enjoying a "Mr. Huge" at Cricket for months... he can't find anything like this breakfast in Georgia, which is a shame, as Brad is a guy who appreciates a fine breakfast.
Photo: Today's members of the Sacramento Breakfast Club, from left to right: David DeMario, Gerry Townsend, Betty Townsend, Brad Holther, Tony Godsey, Matt Donnelly, Sara Donnelly, Dan MacLeod, Bev McLeod and Eric Rench. Since we had such a large group today, we simply pushed two tables together, added a couple of chairs, and we were good to go.
Photo: I have a hard time resisting a breakfast of Polish sausage, so that was my choice today. In addition to the sausage, I ordered home style potatoes, eggs over easy, biscuit and gravy, and of course... coffee. As always at Cricket, my breakfast was superb!
Photo: On the way out, I remarked in passing to Teri, the restaurant manager, that Brad had come all the way from Georgia to enjoy "Mr. Huge," so she came over to greet Brad and welcome him back to California, and to Cricket Country Kitchen. Cricket Country Kitchen is a fun place to eat, as the people are friendly, the decor is "quirky," and the food is good, and there's plenty of it. As the staff members like to quote to us, "Enjoy... you're at Cricket's..." Cricket
