The sign in front of Charlie's Café reads "Home Style Cooking," and it couldn't be said any better, as Charlie's offers food in the style that grandma used to make.  Over the years, Charlie's Café has become one of the favorite locations for the Sacramento Breakfast Club to hold a meeting... if you're counting, this will be the seventh write-up that we've posted documenting our breakfast experience at Charlie's...

Photo:  It's 0745 on Friday, November 25, 2011, the day after Thanksgiving, and I'm in the mood to enjoy a superior breakfast at Charlie's.  Note the "Home Style Cooking" posted on the sign... that is such a true statement!

Photo:  Charlie herself, co-owner of the restaurant, was our server, and here she poses with John's, and Brad's gigantic breakfast burritos.  Since we frequent this restaurant often, Charlie and the staff know us, know what we do, know our names, and know the mission of the Sacramento Breakfast Club.

Photo:  Brad eagerly anticipates his breakfast burrito, as Charlie places the plate on the table in front of him. John seems interested as well, and seems to be having difficulty containing his excitement.  It must be in the delicious sausage gravy that covers the burritos, and everything else.  By the way, the extra gravy is an enhancement that the members of the Sacramento Breakfast Club ordered, by default, Charlie's doesn't drown everything in gravy.

Photo:  I just had to photograph Brad's breakfast burrito breakfast, as he sort of "customized" his order.  Normal, off-the-menu breakfast burritos arrive stuffed with the usual breakfast ingredients, plus salsa, sour cream, and include either hash brown potatoes or home style potatoes on the side.  But Mr. Brad Holther, ex-president of the Sacramento Breakfast Club, defies logic, dares to be different, and beats to his own drum.  Here's how Brad customizes his breakfast burrito:  No salsa.  No sour cream.  No cheese.  No hash browns or home style potatoes.  Instead of potatoes, he has sliced tomatoes on the side... doesn't salsa contain tomatoes?  Then cover the burrito with a double helping of gravy.  Note:  Biscuit and gravy is on the side.  Finally, apply pepper... a little more pepper... and then the rest of the pepper shaker.  Finally... you have a breakfast burrito, Brad Holther style! Charlie's Café is more than happy to accommodate Brad's unique taste...

Photo:  Brad, Dan and John all ordered breakfast burritos, and, with the exception of Brad's, were all quite similar. David and I went for Charlie's chicken fried steak, which is a can't-pass-me-by breakfast treasure.  My delicious breakfast of a perfectly cooked chicken fried steak, along with home style potatoes - which include diced pepper and onion slices - three eggs, over easy, and a biscuit on the side.  The best part... it's all covered in Charlie's delicious sausage gravy!  Like my fellow breakfast club members at today's meeting, I requested extra gravy to cover almost everything, and I got it... at no extra charge!

Seven write-ups, and how many meetings not written up?  So why do we keep holding our breakfast meetings at Charlie's?  There are many reasons including, but not limited to the fact that they feature "Home Style Cooking," outstanding, mouth-watering food, large portions, and friendly people.  We also like the "country-theme" decor of the dining room, and the country music that's played in the background.  In short, we love this restaurant.  As long as Charlie and her crew keep on doing what they're doing, Charlie's Café will remain a popular meeting place for the Sacramento Breakfast Club.
