How many times has the Sacramento Breakfast Club visitied Charle's Café?  I think this is the fifth time that I've done a write-up about the restaurant, and we've visited serveral times when I left my camera and my jouranlism at home.  Thusday, December 18, 2008 was Mark's turn to choose, and his choice was Charlie's, which always makes a fine choice.

I hung up my night shift spurs some months ago, so I got up early, so I could grab a table, enjoy a cup of coffee, chat with Charlie and the gang, and surf the web a bit on my phone before the rest of the gang arrived from work. As I walked into the restaurant, I was immediately greeted by co-owner Charlie, and the manager of the restaurant, friendly Cheryl.  Both of them greet me with "Hi Eric, we haven't seen you for a while, good to see you..." and Cheryl seats me at a table in the middle of the restaurant.  Sure, I haven't been to Charlie's in a couple of months, but the folks remember me, and treat me like a member of the family.

You'll never go hungry at Charlie's, as the portions are huge.  Departing from my usual order of chicken fried steak, today I opted for a perfectly-grilled New York steak, complete with a crosshatch pattern of grill marks, which makes an attractive presentation.  Three eggs, country potatoes with lots of bell peppers and onions slices, and a side of biscuits and gravy rounded out my breakfast.  We let out a round of applause when Dan's breakfast burrito was placed on the table, as he'd ordered his country potatoes topped with gravy, and that's the way it came.  As usual, all of us devoured our delicious breakfasts, and gave everything rave reviews.

Since I've written about Charlie's many times before, I won't go into great detail, except that Charlie's is a fine as ever; the staff is friendly, the restaurant is comfortable, fellow diners are friendly, the portions are gigantic, and the food is some of the best that we have the pleasure to enjoy in the greater Sacramento area. Charlie's Café remains a favorite, and de facto benchmark of the Sacramento Breakfast Club.
