How could you find a better way to spend a late Sunday afternoon, when you're visiting Gunnison, Colorado, than taking in a NFL Football game - Broncos vs. Raiders - in a sports bar?  Great football action, but this article isn't about football; it's about food!  Great burgers, fries and Gunnison-area micro brew beer are all to be enjoyed at The Dive, located in Gunnison, Colorado, along with great company, and NFL football.

As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.

Photo:  The Dive Pub, located in Gunnison, Colorado, is truly a "bicycle-friendly" restaurant, as bikes of all kinds are parked in front of the restaurant.  If you like bicycles, wait until you see inside!  The Dive Pub is located on Tomichi Ave., which is also US 50 highway.

It's late Sunday afternoon, September 16, 2018, and after spending much of the afternoon watching football at this fine pub, I'm ready to enjoy beer and a burger for dinner.

Photo:  As you walk in the restaurant, the first thing you notice is the bar, but you'll be treated to a comfortable dining room with lots of television monitors playing Sunday afternoon NFL football, and the "faux food truck" that actually is the kitchen.

Photo:  The large dining room is spacious, and filled with natural sunlight, due to the roll-up doors that allow an entire side of the restaurant to be open to the sunshine and fresh air when the weather permits.  There are awnings to shade the inside from the sun, as the wall faces to the west and the afternoon sun can get intense.  On this late Sunday afternoon in mid-September, it's a balmy 82 degrees outside, so it's a perfect day for the restaurant to be open to the sunshine and fresh air.

The restaurant's web site describes the decor as "industrial pub," whatever that means.  Check out the bicycles on top of the faux food truck, where the mostly open kitchen is located.

Photo:  The food menu is definitely "pub grub" which is among my favorite type of food.  I agonized between "Fish and Chips" and the "Dive Burger," but the burger won, which is usually the case.

Photo:  The kitchen is located in the rear of the dining room, and it's open, so you can watch the chefs prepare your meal and the daily specials are posted on the "old school" black board on the side.  Note the bicycles on top of the "faux food truck," as bikes seem to be the mascot of this fine restaurant.

Photo:  Condiments are placed on a shelf in front of the kitchen, where you choose your condiment, take it to your table, and enjoy.  The kitchen is open, so you can not only watch your meal being prepared, but you can actually talk to the chefs.  The head chef seems to enjoy my photo taking, as he has a smile on his face!

The kitchen is located at the rear of the dining room, and is inside of what is a "faux food truck" with a variety of bicycles on top of it.  Perhaps this is why the restaurant's web side describes the dining room decor as "industrial pub?"

Photo:  When it comes to open kitchens, I'm a "sucker," as I love to watch the friendly chefs at work, preparing delicious food.

Photo:  The Dive Pub has a comfortable, shaded patio, on both sides of the restaurant, where you can enjoy the great Gunnison outdoors as you sip your beer, and munch on your pub grub.  If Bowser or Fido is with you, he's welcome on the patio, as the patio is both bike and dog-friendly.

Photo:  The bar is the main attraction - at least to me - where I spent much of the afternoon drinking beer and watching NFL football.  The Denver Broncos were playing the Oakland Raiders, and I was surrounded by a sea of orange and blue jerseys, but that's to be expected, as I was in Colorado where the Broncos rule football!  Eventually the Broncos beat the Raiders 20-19, much to the joy of the many Broncos fans at the pub.  I didn't hide my love of the Raiders from my fellow football fans, but at the end of the game, I congratulated the Broncos fans on their win, and even toasted to the Broncos possible trip to the Superbowl next year.

Photo:  My friendly bartendress and hostess, Anna, brings my "Dive Burger" and waffle fries to me with a smile. Anna is a great hostess, as she not only provided great service, but she cheerfully answered all of my many questions, and as her time permitted provided pleasant conversation.

Photo:  Thanks, Anna, for snapping my photo, as I prepare to enjoy my "Dive Burger," waffle fries, and a Elk Ave. Brewing Company, "Rotation" lager beer, which is brewed locally in Crested Butte, CO.

Photo:  My "Dive Burger," along with an order of waffle fries.  The menu just read "fries," and I was both dazzled and amazed when waffle fries arrived, rather than just generic "fries."  A dipping bowl of ketchup was placed on the side which added a nice touch, as waffle fries dip into ketchup great.

Ah... the "Dive Burger..."  The menu provides a scant description of "Dive Burger, 7-oz scanga beer plus pork blend, gouda, bacon marmalade and fries."   I ordered the burger with "the works," which besides the obvious, included greens, sprouts, and sliced dill pickle on the side.

Such an amazing burger!  I didn't specify how the beef patty was to be cooked, but it arrived medium, complete with grill marks on a soft, fresh chewy bun.  As the photo shows, there was lots of gouda cheese and veggies.  Yes, I could taste the bacon marmalade!  I didn't add any mustard, ketchup of mayonnaise to this burger, as I didn't want to mask ANYTHING about this burger!  Simply delicious...

Despite the fact that the Raiders lost 19-20 to the Broncos, and I was completely surrounded by enthusiastic, cheering Bronco fans - after all, I was in Colorado, which is definitely NOT Raider territory - I enjoyed a wonderful Sunday afternoon, as the crowd was super-friendly, the staff were super-friendly, the beer was delicious and cold, and the "Dive Burger" and waffle fries were off-the-planet good.  Good football, good food and great people at The Dive Pub, in Gunnison, Colorado.
