I found myself driving through Claude, Texas on a September Tuesday morning, and was looking for breakfast. There aren't many restaurants in Claude, and there weren't many open, but I managed to stumble on OJ's Mexican Restaurant, which had a bright OPEN sign lit, so I knew I was about to enjoy a delicious Mexican breakfast.

As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.

Photo:  It's a little after 9 in the morning on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, and I've arrived at OJ's Mexican Restaurant in Claude, TX, ready for breakfast.  It's a good thing that I love Mexican food, as OJ's seemed to be the only breakfast restaurant open in town.

Photo:  As you walk in the restaurant, you'll notice, beside tables, there is a cash register and food for sale, which includes everything from fresh flowers to pre-paid money orders and phone cards to Mexico.  Ella, who was my server, chats with the chef between customers.  For the first few minutes of my visit, I had the entire restaurant to myself.

Photo:  The dining room is small, but it's clean and very comfortable, and the furniture consists entirely of tables. The swinging doors lead to the kitchen, and there is a wide variety of merchandise for sale on the counters, including fresh bananas!

The mercantile at the restaurant got the better of me, as I walked out with a bottle of "San Pedro" habanero hot sauce, which is produced locally.

Photo:  The breakfast menu serves all of your Mexican and American favorites.  It had been a couple months since I'd enjoyed a breakfast of "Huevos Rancheros" so the menu led me in that direction.

Photo:  After placing my breakfast order of "Huevos Rancheros" I had some time to explore the small dining room, but I did take a peak out the front window at the parking lot, framed with cups and other souvenirs for sale at the restaurant.

Photo:  I was able to catch a glimpse into the kitchen to see the chef, busily preparing my breakfast through the order window.  The corn tortillas, which accompany my breakfast are ready, and waiting at the order window.

Photo:  My friendly server, Ella, who brought my breakfast to me with a smile.  Ella kept my coffee mug full, and she and I engaged in lots of interesting conversation.  She told me she lives in Amarillo, which is quite a drive from Claude, even though both are located in the Texas panhandle.

Photo:  Thanks, Ella, for snapping my photo, as I prepare to enjoy my breakfast of "Huevos Rancheros."

Photo:  I hadn't enjoyed a breakfast of "Huevos Rancheros" for quite some time, and it really looked good to me, especially since breakfast included fried potatoes and refried beans.  Today was also a rare day that I enjoyed coffee with my breakfast as well.

Such a great breakfast!  The eggs were cooked perfectly, the ranchero sauce was flavorful and spicy, but not hot, the potatoes were perfectly fried and the refried beans tasted like the amazing beans you find in a loncheria, at a small town in Mexico.  The breakfast was delicious!

When you're touring Claude, Texas, and you're in the mood for some great TexMex cuisine, stop by OJ's Mexican Restaurant.  The food is delicious, the staff is friendly, and you'll love the friendly, small-town diner atmosphere.
