Pittman Cafe is noted for fine dining in the small high desert town of Tonopah, in west central Nevada. The restaurant is located in the beautiful Hotel Mizpah - which dates back to the early 1900's - and offers fine dining, with your meals served by friendly staff. Breakfast is always great... but if you care to treat yourself, you can enjoy an elegant dinner in the fabulous Jack Dempsey room, in the hotel. As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences. Photo: It's about 07:30 in the morning, Sunday, November 17, 2024 and I'm hiking from my motel to the Mizpah Hotel, located in downtown Tonopah, to enjoy breakfast at Pittman Cafe. This chilly morning wasn't for the feint of heart, as the temperature was a cold 22 degrees. Tonopah sits at an elevation of nearly 6-thousand feet, so fall and winter weather gets cold. Fine dining in the county seat of Nye County, Nevada at the Mizpah Hotel! Photo: The entrance to the cafe is through the elegant lobby of the Mizpah Hotel, which dates back to 1906, and offers comfort along with vintage charm. Photo: As I entered the cafe, I was greeted by friendly Corina, who meets, greets, answers questions, takes your dollars, and brings food to your table. She truly does it all! I was surprised as Pittman Cafe operates on a variation of what I describe as the "Taqueria Format." At the cafe, you make your selection from a menu at the greeting station, pay for your meal, and seat yourself at a table of your choice. No seating problems on this early Sunday morning, as the dining room was empty and the bar had only a couple of patrons seated. Like in a Mexican taqueria, when your order is ready, it will be brought to you by Cornia, who seemed to wear many hats today. Due to the elegance of the hotel lobby, along with the fine, vintage atmosphere in the dining room, I was truly surprised that this was a pay-at-the-counter restaurant. Photo: If you order coffee, it's self-service, as the coffee station is located just across from the greeting station. Ice water is available at no charge. Note the vintage, non-operational cash register which makes for great decoration. Photo: The dining room is quite large, spacious and furnished with tables and booths. There is a small bar around the corner that offers counter seating, but I chose to enjoy my meal in the dining room, since it wasn't busy, to say the least. Photo: A small section of the menu, showing the "Winter Express Menu," which seems to be offered to the to-go crowd. I went with a "Pittman Breakfast," and enjoyed it in the dining room. Photo: Each table is set with condiments, including salt, pepper, sugar, ketchup and a bottle of Tabasco Sauce. Photo: The walls of the dining room are decorated with many vintage artifacts dating back to Tonopah's rich mining day heritage in the early 1900's. Photo: Just a couple of the many vintage photos that decorate the walls of the dining room. Photo: Meet Corina, my friendly hostess, who delivered my breakfast to me with a friendly smile. Notice the carry out container with my breakfast. I confess that I was not at all impressed with the presentation of my meal. Photo: I'm ready to enjoy a delicious "Pittman Breakfast," served at the Pittman Cafe, located in the elegant Mizpah Hotel, in Tonopah, Nevada. Thanks, Corina, for snapping the photo. Photo: From the "Winter Express Menu" section, I went with a "Pittman Breakfast." I noted the menu description was listed as, "Our Winter Express Menu is designed for our guests to enjoy to go or to enjoy in the cafe." I guess that's why my breakfast arrived in a plastic carry-out container, complete with plastic utensils, so it would cater to the "to-go crowd" who seem to be in the majority these days. Personally, I prefer an "old school" dining experience. The "Pittman Breakfast" gives you a choice of protein as bacon, sausage links, eggs cooked your way and a choice of toast. I chose sausage links as my protein, sourdough toast and eggs fried over easy. Tater tot hashbrowns are standard cuisine with every "Pittman Breakfast." They worked perfectly for today's breakfast! Salt, pepper, a little ketchup and a shot or two of Tabasco Sauce added to my breakfast enjoyment. The pork sausage links were fat, juicy, tender, full of flavor and were perfectly grilled. My eggs were perfectly fried over easy - as ordered - and made for perfect side to the salad. Tater tots - which can easily substitute for a side of hashbrowns - were perfect. The buttered slices of toasted sourdough bread rounded out this great breakfast. The breakfast was perfectly cooked, delicious and truly made my early Sunday morning complete. Due to the elegant lobby of the Mizpah Hotel, and the attractive dining room, I wasn't expecting my breakfast to be served in a plastic carry-out box, complete with plastic utensils. The to-go box certainly didn't add anything to the presentation, but it didn't detract from the taste. I suppose Pittman Cafe serves their breakfast to-go as a cost-effective measure, since to many of today's diners prefer to enjoy their meals... shall we say? ... to go. Full service breakfast every day of the week is a rarity in Tonopah, but you'll enjoy a fine Tonopah breakfast at Pittman Cafe, a basic, "Americana" breakfast every day of the week, at a reasonable price. The breakfast is good, the service is outstanding, and the staff is as friendly as it gets. Pittman Cafe, located in the Hotel Mizpah is a great breakfast destination in Tonopah, Nevada.
