Meadow Lake, located at the 7300-foot level in a remote corner of the Tahoe National Forest, is a beautiful place to simply camp, relax, fish, hike and enjoy the beautiful scenery. It's especially great during the second weekend in August, when CA4WDC's annual Sierra Trek four wheel drive event happens. I camped with friends, cooked great food until the event started, relaxed, and enjoyed the great live music of Sacramento-area band Diva Rox Friday and Saturday nights. What a great way to enjoy Sierra Trek! Photo: Late morning, Tuesday, August 06, 2024, looking at Meadow Lake and Cisco Butte in the distance. The famed Fordyce trail runs between Cisco Butte and Meadow Lake, down the canyon as seen to the right of the photo. Photo: Shortly after I arrived early Tuesday afternoon and set up camp, my friend Robert arrived. Our camp on this Tuesday afternoon at Meadow Lake. Photo: Tonight's stir fry dinner cooking on the wok. When I camp, I love to eat in style. Photo: Hello... I'm a happy cook! My go-to cooking apparatus is my wok, made from a plow disc and seasoned just like a cast iron skillet. I heat it over a big propane fired burner. This wok is a great camp cooker, as I can cook partially anything using this setup. No, I can't roast a chicken or bake bread using this... but I can remove the wok and place a Dutch oven over the burner. Photo: Stir fry all of the way, including shrimp, rice and veggies, including fresh avocado. This is the kind of dinner to start out Sierra Trek 2024 the right way! Medical help is available at Meadow Lake during the annual CA4WDC Sierra Trek event. Photo: Wednesday evening dinner cooking in my plow disc wok... Photo: I'm a happy guy, as I smile as my Wednesday evening dinner is almost ready to enjoy. Photo: Wednesday night dinner of seasoned, bacon wrapped chicken breasts, homemade mashed potatoes and sweet corn. I goofed up the chicken gravy - burned it - so I had to settle for butter on my potatoes and corn. No worries! Photo: Breakfast on Thursday morning, August 08, 2024 began with fried eggs, bacon, chorizo, hash browns and a jalapeno pepper. Photo: I smile, as breakfast is almost ready, thanks to my plow disc wok and the propane fired burner. Photo: Hi-Landers 4 Wheel Drive Club operates the SNACK BAR at the Sierra Trek event, which you simply can't miss, if you crave some of the best hot dogs, fries and burgers on the planet. Individual fires at your campsite aren't allowed, but a large bonfire is built every night in the fire pit, located near the cement slab in the center of camp. Photo: One of the great things about the CA4WDC Sierra Trek event is that if you purchase a "meal ticket," you'll enjoy delicious meals beginning with Thursday night dinner and going all the way through Sunday morning breakfast. I highly recommend this option, as the food is delicious and you don't have to cook! Click on the photo or the link to savor the meals we enjoyed during the 2024 Sierra Trek event! Photo: Friday night, August 09, 2024, after dinner it was time to relax around the bonfire and enjoy live "old school" rock 'n roll music. Photo: Sacramento area band Diva Rox provided three hours of live music, featuring "old school" rock 'n roll from the 1970's and 1980's. Such a great way to spend an evening in the mountains, at Meadow Lake! Photo: The two singers of band Diva Rox have talent! These gals can SING and make "old school" rock 'n roll music come alive at the annual CA4WDC Sierra Trek event. Photo: Late Saturday morning, August 10, 2024, it's "Main Street" in Meadow Lake, CA. Photo: After finishing the hardcore Fordyce trail, Tom joined us and set up camp. Photo: Our camp at Sierra Trek 2024. Tom and I set up tents, while Robert used the camper shell on his truck for his camp. So many fun and entertaining things to do in camp during the event! You could easily amuse and entertain yourself by not leaving camp, as when the event begins early Thursday afternoon, there is always something going on. The Sierra Trek Committee made this a well-planned and fun four wheel drive event! I enjoyed my stay of five nights at the 57th Sierra Trek, officially held this year from August 8th to the 11th. I'm already looking forward to next year's event! Back to Sierra Trek 2024 Restaurant... Sierra Trek Copyright(c) 2024 eRench Productions. All rights reserved.
