Topgolf arrived in Roseville back in August, 2015, and the Roseville location, at this writing, is the only Topgolf location in the State of California. Editor's note: A San Jose location is to open soon. The gigantic array of nets to catch stray golf balls make for one of the most striking structures of the Roseville skyline, and the sports bar restaurant is noted for fine food and drinks. Why did it take me so long to pay a visit? As with all restaurant reviews I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences. Photo: It's just before 10 in the morning, Wednesday, May 08, 2019, and I've arrived at Topgolf in Roseville to enjoy a burger in their sports-theme restaurant. Topgolf has been in town for over three years... what took me so long to visit? As of this writing, there are around a dozen Topgolf locations scattered around the western portion of the country, with the Roseville location the only Topgolf in California. Topgolf is a sports-entertainment complex that features high-tech golf that anybody can enjoy. Of course there is a sports-theme restaurant, which grabs my interest... Photo: As you walk into the spacious lobby of the complex, you'll be greeted by friendly staff. If you're a first-time visitor and you're not sure of how things work, a concierge is at your service. Sports-theme gifts, and sports attire are for sale in the lobby as well. You walk through the lobby to get to the restaurant and bar. Photo: As you enter the restaurant, the first thing you'll notice is the GIGANTIC, full-service bar in the center of the room. The bar completely wraps around the beer taps and mixing stations. The main dining room is in the rear of the photo, but there are seats against the wall, and the windows. The high stools near the window look out to the driving range. No matter where you're seated, you've got a great view of the driving range. You can also to watch your favorite sports action on the many high-definition monitors in the room. Photo: View of the main dining room, looking towards the bar. Topgolf is by far the largest sports bar in Roseville, and all of Placer County. Photo: View of the large bar from the dining room. The high tables to the left each seat two diners, and are placed next to the window, and offer a stunning view of the driving range. If you look in any other direction, you're sure to see the game of your interest on one of the many monitors. If you like golf, sports, good company, a fine bar and good food, you've found your "home away from home" at Topgolf. Photo: Some of the tall tables hear the floor-to-ceiling windows that look out to the driving range. Photo: The menu is loose leaf, and features something for every taste, including vegetarian options. Most selections have a "sports bar feel," and the menu choices are heavy on burgers, finger foods, sandwiches and salads. The menu even includes a page of breakfast choices! It's a little before 10 in the morning, and I'm in the mood for a burger, so I turned to the "Burgers" section of the menu. Since today was my first visit to Topgolf, "The Classic," along with an order of fries, sounded good to me. Photo: The friendly bartender, Fred, pours a Deschtes beer for one of the customers at the end of the bar. I didn't count the number of beers the full-service bar has on tap, but there are many! Fred, like every employee at the bar, restaurant and sports complex is super-friendly, and very customer focused. The staff at Topgolf treats you like family. Photo: After placing my order for a burger and fries, I had the opportunity to relax, and enjoy the energetic atmosphere that the restaurant and the driving range have to offer. I watched several golfers practice their swing, and drive golf balls down the range. Photo: Meet Sunny, my friendly server, who brought my lunch to me with a smile. Sunny, like every other staff member, is super friendly and actually seem to enjoy their jobs, and working with customers. Not only is the service friendly, but it's fast, as my burger arrived in less than 15 minutes after placing my order. Photo: Thanks, Sunny, for snapping my photo, as I prepare to enjoy my "The Classic" burger, fries, dill pickle on the side, along with a cold beer. Photo: From the "Burgers" section of the menu, I ordered "The Classic," along with an order of fries. You can choose between fries or tator tots - such a difficult decision - but since this was my first visit to Topgolf, I chose fries, which is always a great way to begin. The dill pickle slice on the side adds a nice touch to the meal. The burger starts with a large brioche bun that's fresh out of the oven, as it's soft, chewy lightly buttered, and toasted to a golden brown. The third-pound beef patty is cooked to order - medium in my case - and is shaped to it perfectly matches the size of the bun, making the perfect bun-to-meat ratio. In the process, the patty is thick, but perfectly cooked, and when you bite into it, the juice oooozes out, just the way I love it. Fresh shredded lettuce, along with sliced tomato and red onion complete the burger. Except for the buttered bun, the burger arrives without condiments, so you can customize the burger to your taste. Each table is equipped with ketchup and mustard, and other condiments are available for the asking. I loved the "vertical" presentation of the fries! The fries were simply amazing, as they were perfectly cooked, with just a little bit of peeling remaining, which is the way I like it. The taste was wonderful! They were salted just enough to add some zest, but they weren't salty, or greasy. The fries were perfect! My burger and fries made an outstanding early lunch. Both the burger and fries arrived at the perfect ready-to-enjoy temperature, fresh from the kitchen. Everything about my lunch was perfect! The burger was juicy, the bun was toasted and tender, and the veggies were crunchy-fresh. The chefs at Topgolf really know how to cook amazing fries! Such an amazing lunch... Photo: I pulled back the meat patty a bit so I could get a peek of the delicious burger before I took a bite into it. The burger arrived without condiments, and it was so delicious that the only condiment I used was a little mustard for enhancement.
