With a slogan headlining the menu that reads, "Authentic Mexican food," you get the idea the Taqueria Maria serves quality, authentic Mexican food.  The menu features all of your Mexican favorites, and the restaurant includes an all-you-can-eat tortilla chip and salsa bar.  What's not to love about this fine restaurant?

Photo: Taqueria Maria is located in a newer strip mall, at the northeast corner of Cirby Way and Riverside Blvd. in Roseville, CA.  It's sandwiched between a nails/spa business and a hair salon, so if you love to watch beautiful women coming and going, the "eye candy" is an added bonus to enjoying fine Mexican food at Taqueria Maria.

Photo:  Today is Friday, January 12, 2018, my wife and I are at Taqueria Maria for lunch, just as the clock stries high noon.  The restaurant is a typical taqueria, in that you choose from the menu posted above the counter, make your selection, pay for your order, and your food will be brought to your table.  My wife and I both ordered "One Item Combination Plates" from the menu, which was just the right amount of food for lunch today.  The restaurant opens at 9 in the morning, and the menu includes a few breakfast selections.

The owner and staff are very friendly, and will make you feel at home, and happy that you walked in the door.

Photo:  I prepare to enjoy my delicious "One Item Combination Plate" for lunch today, as my wife takes my photo. She's camera shy, so her photo wasn't posted.

Photo:  Taqueria Maria features a "One Item Combination Plate" for a very reasonable $6.95, that features rice, beans, guacamole, and a small helping of deliciously fresh salsa cruda, and one main entree.  You can choose between various varities of enchilada, tacos, tostatadas and tamales.  My wife chose a chicken enchilada for her main entree.

Photo:  My lunch today was identical to my wife's, but I chose for my main entree a "Taco de Cabeza," which is one of my favorite cuts of meat.  My lunch was amazing delicious, priced right at $6.95, and featured just the right amount of food for a satisfying lunch, but not enough to feel overly full.  Note:  If you have a larger appetite, you can order this Combination Plate with up to three entrees.  As an aside, the refried beans were so delicious, as we left the restaurant, I complimented the owner on his beans, and he really appreciated it.

With unlimited trips to the salsa and chips bar, this is a great deal if you're in the mood for a delicious Mexican lunch.

Let's go back to Sunday, February 26, 2012, and enjoy a previous visit to this wonderful restaurant...

With a slogan on their menu that reads, "Authentic Mexican food," how could I have ever put off a visit to Taqueria Maria for nearly two years?  One reason is that they're a long walk from my place, but I'm used to long walks, so that's not really an excuse.  Another, more valad reason, is that every time I went by the place, I'd either already eaten, or I was on my way to another dining establishment.  Whatever the reasons, Sunday, February 26, 2012 was the day of reckoning, and the day that I finally was able to enjoy an authentic Mexican breakfast at Taqueria Maria.

Photo:  Taqueria Maria has a clean, modern, comfortable and spacious dining room, with lots of tables, yet lots of room to move around.  Between waiting on customers, the shy counter girl, who wouldn't give me her name, busses a table.  Maybe I made a dummy out of myself, but after I asked her name, and all I got was a shy giggle; I blurted out, "Oh!  You must be Maria!"  I guess I didn't win any points...  Today is mid-Sunday morning, February 26, 2012, and I'm in the mood for breakfast, with a couple of beers on the side.

Photo:  You get to enjoy an unlimited amount of chips and salsa at the self-service salsa and chip bar.  There are a half dozen varieties of fresh, in-house salsa available, plus other goodies, such as diced onions, chopped cilantro, and cut-up limes.  The tortilla chips are kept under a heat lamp.  This girl is helping herself to tortilla chips; you grab the chips with a pair of tongs, place the chips in a little box, and take them back to your table.  At Taqueria Maria, you get unlimited trips to the salsa/tortilla chip bar.  As a lover of tortilla chips and salsa, I can tell you that I had an outstanding experience!

Photo:  The format at Taqueria Maria is similar to most Mexican restaurants in Roseville, as it's a hybrid of fast food meets sit-down restaurant.  You walk up to the counter and make your selection from the menu that's posted above the order counter.  You pay for your menu, take a number, pick a table, and help yourself to the chip and salsa bar.  When your order is ready, the counter gal brings it to your table.

Photo:  I can't resist a kitchen shot, so after I placed my order, I reached over the counter to SNAP the photo, as the chef realized that he'd just been caught on my not-so-candid-camera.  For those interested in technical trivia, all the photos in this article were taken using the camera in my iPhone 4.  Not too shabby, if I may say so!

Photo:  I asked the shy counter gal to snap my photo, posed with my breakfast of Huevos con Jamón, which she readily agreed to do.  Wow! ... it looks like my breakfast is about ready to fall off the table...

Photo:  By the time I arrived at Taqueria Maria, it was 1030 on this blustery Sunday morning, and since I hadn't eaten breakfast, my meal choice was Huevos con Jamón.  Huevos con Jamón, at Taqueria Maria is a LARGE plate of diced ham, mixed with scrambled eggs, fresh salsa, guacamole, Mexican rice, refried beans, and six corn tortillas.  The tortilla chips and salsa are from the salsa bar, and the beers, of course, are extra; shame on me.  At the time of this writing, the price of this delicious plate of Huevos con Jamón, including unlimited trips to the chips/salsa bar set me back only $5.75... the beer, of course, was extra.  Taqueria Maria represents an outstanding value, as they serve good food... lot's of it, for a low price.

Now, the question is, what kept me from eating at this fine restaurant for so long?  Despite the fact that the counter gal was very camera-shy, this place really serves "Authentic Mexican food," that's not only authentic and delicious, but it's very reasonably priced.  I'm glad that I've become acquainted with the gem of a Mexican restaurant, and although it's a ways distant from my beaten path, I'll return again... again, and again...
