Sushi Omakase, located in Roseville, is a member of a small chain of two Northern California restaurants - the other member is located in Gilroy - who prepare fine Japanese cuisine, and specialize in sushi. I celebrated - or should I say it just happened - another birthday a couple days ago, and I received an invitation via social media from Sushi Omakase to visit their fine restaurant, and to celebrate my birthday, I was receive a $12.00 off my meal, as gift from the restaurant How could I resist such a generous offer? As with all restaurant reviews I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences. Photo: It's early Friday afternoon, March 22, 2019, and we've arrived at the upscale location of Sushi Omakase, in Roseville. Note the beautiful patio, but it's not in use on this early Friday afternoon, thanks to the rainy weather. Photo: The dining room is very large, comfortable, squeaky clean, and beautifully decorated. The sushi counter and open kitchen is to the left of the photos. The only thing that seemed a little odd was the fact that country music was playing in the background. Yes, Roseville is very conservative and "country," but I've never heard country music playing in a Japanese restaurant before. Photo: The dining room of the restaurant is absolutely stunning! We especially noted the exceptional high ceilings and the many open windows, which give the attractive dining room a light, airy feeling. Photo: One page of the menu, which features all of your favorites. The lunch and dinner menus are combined, and are nearly identical, except the dinner selections feature more items, along with bigger portions. My wife isn't a fan of sushi, and I like everything tempura, so we both zeroed in on the "Lunch Bento Boxes." Photo: After placing our orders, I got up to walk around and take a few photos. These two diners are looking out to the attractive patio, which isn't seated at the moment, due to the light rain. Our friendly server, Melia, suggested we should return some evening, as the patio is romantically lighted, and during chilly weather, heated by large propane heaters. Dining outside on the patio, on a clear evening, sounds absolutely inviting... Photo: The open kitchen is located on the left side of the huge dining room, where you can watch the two chefs at work. I definitely am a sucker for open kitchens! Photo: After placing our orders, we were served a small bowl of salted peas as an appetizer, which is new for me. We would have preferred a bowl of mizo soup, and we weren't quite sure what to do with the peas. I ate a few of them whole, stems and all, but I suspect that wasn't the correct protocol, but since I'm a "Beverly Hillbilly" at heart, it worked for me. Each of our "Bento Box Lunches" came with a small salad composed of three different varieties of lettuce and carrot slivers. We especially loved the dressing, as it was an exotic sesame peanut variety, and it was simply delicious! Photo: Meet Melia, our friendly server, who brings our "Bento Box Lunches" to the table with a smile. She took great care of us and made us feel at home. Photo: Thanks, Melia, for snapping our photo, as we get ready to enjoy our lunch at Sushi Omakase. If you look out the window, you will get a look at the beautiful patio, and the oak trees in the distance, which is typical Roseville landscape. Photo: My wife's "Lunch Bento Box," which included Teriyaki Chicken, steamed rice, along with Tempura Prawns, and a bowl of soy sauce for dipping. The service is very fast, as our lunches arrived about fifteen minutes after we placed our order. She absolutely loved her lunch! The chicken was marinated in teriyaki, lightly grilled, and covered with a teriyaki glaze, along with sesame seeds. The delicious chicken was set on a bed of grilled onion and broccoli, which made a great enhancement for the juicy chicken, but it also made an eye-appealing presentation. Her steamed rice and Tempura Prawns were identical to mine, and identically delicious. Photo: My "Lunch Bento Box" of Tempura Prawns, steamed rice, and Tempura Vegetables. Since we were dining at a sushi restaurant for lunch, I felt it proper to order a roll, so I went with a "California Roll" on the side. By the time our meals arrived, we'd already eaten our salads, but the appetizer of beans was largely untouched. I'm a fan of tempura, and every time I dine at a Japanese restaurant, I always order something tempura; today I went all-out and made my two choices for my "Lunch Bento Box" to be tempura. The tempura prawns were absolutely heavenly, as the tempura was deep fried to a delicious, crispy brown, and had that light flavor that tempura is noted for. The shrimp themselves were moist, tender, and perfectly cooked. The tempura batter complimented the shrimp, and the total package was simply delicious! Sushi Omakase doesn't shrimp on the prawns, as you get four of them. I've never seen such straight prawns before! The tempura vegetables were deep fried onion rings, zucchini squash, broccoli, and a couple of green beans. Like the prawns, the vegetables were lightly battered in tempura and perfectly fried to a crispy, golden brown. As I bit into the veggies, some of them still had a little "snap" to them, which I absolutely love. I might add that neither the prawns nor the vegetables were greasy or salty, as they were prepared to perfection. The steamed rice was nothing special, as it was perfectly steamed white rice. I've never learned how to use chopsticks, so I put a little bit of rice on my fork and dipped it in the rice, which made the delicious rice taste even better. We absolutely LOVED our lunches! All of the quality ingredients were fresh, perfectly cooked, and simply delicious! The "birthday" credit of $12.00 was a great gift from management, and is a great reason to "friend" Sushi Omakase on social media. The dining room is simply beautiful, the view from the patio is marvelous, the food is delicious, and the staff is super friendly. Combine great food, great service, comfortable dining and country music... it all adds up to Sushi Omakase, which is a great Japanese restaurant in Roseville!
