Golden City is a small, family owned and operated Chinese restaurant, located on South Cirby Way, on the east side of Roseville. This fine restaurant offers all of your Chinese favorites - in-house, catering or to go - and provides delicious food with a friendly smile. A well-kept secret is during lunch hours, which run 11 until 2 on weekdays, the restaurant has two $3.99 specials that aren't on their web site, or posted on the menu. As with all restaurant reviews I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.
Photo: Golden City is located next to a convenience store, on the east side of Roseville. The parking lot is small, but so is the restaurant, and parking is safe and adequate. It's 11:30 on this late Friday morning, March 15, 2019, and I've seen the signs posted outside the restaurant, and I'm anticipating lunch for only $3.99 plus tax at Golden City, in Roseville.
Photo: The dining room is quite compact, but has several tables, and is quite comfortable. The only gripe that I had, as I sat at my table, is every time the front door would open, a gusty breeze would chill me, and sweep papers from the table. It's just a small complaint, but I did have to anchor my menu on the table with a salt shaker. The restaurant's host, Whitney, greets a walk-in customer, who appears to order lunch to-go. During my visit, there was a constant stream of customers walking in and ordering take-out, along with many phone calls, so I assume this fine restaurant does a brisk take-out business.
Photo: The restaurant works on what I call "taqueria style," as the menu is posted above the counter. You make your selection from the menu, pay for it, and when your order is ready, it will be brought to your table, or your name will be called. Printed, take-out menus are on the counter, next to the cash register.
Photo: This is only a portion of one page of the lunch menu! Golden City is open for lunch and dinner, and the menu is extensive, as there must easily be 200 choices on the menu! The "Special Combination Lunch" menu page alone has 58 choices... All prices are very reasonable.
Photo: Here's what I was after, the $3.99 "Special Combo" served week days, during lunch hours. Since this was my first visit to Golden City, I really didn't know what to expect at this price. I was pleasantly surprised, as I received WAY more than I bargained for!

Photo: My "Special Combo" lunch of Broccoli Chicken with Steamed Rice. Yes, it's only $3.99! The "Special Combo" lunch starts out with a large helping of steamed, white rice. No skimping on the rice, as there's plenty of it, and it's cooked perfectly. The chicken is cooked with broccoli, carrot slices, pepper strip and onion, and is cooked in a semi-sweet, delicious sauce. Golden City doesn't skimp on the chicken, as there's lots of it, and it works well with the vegetables, as each ingredient compliments each other, and the whole dish, and it all works well together. Each mouthful is a culinary adventure, and this lunch is simply delicious. With the "Special Combo," lunch, you get a lot of authentic, delicious Chinese food for less than four bucks. You can't beat the $3.99 - plus tax - lunch special that Golden City offers! Cut-rate, mass-produced fast food restaurants can't even match the price, and the food served at Golden City is delicious, authentic, and light years ahead of any fast food - Chinese or otherwise - in every way. At Golden City, you can enjoy an amazing lunch on a shoestring budget, enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine, and not feel guilty, as your bank account isn't broken.
