What better way to begin a chilly morning than to enjoy a couple of freshly-made doughnuts, and a cup of coffee? Granted, the "health police" may not approve, but I'm sure they don't read my web site! Begin your day like I do, at Foothills Doughnuts, on Foothills Blvd., in Roseville. Photo: Foothills Doughnuts is located in the Brickyard Center, in Roseville, at the corner of Foothills Blvd. and Baseline Road. As you can see from the "menu" painted on their door, they offer much more than doughnuts. Call me "old school," but why would I want a muffin or a croissant when I can enjoy an "Old Fashioned" doughnut! Photo: The business is small... maybe even tiny, as it consists of an order counter, a display case of freshly baked doughnuts, and three tables... that's it! I notice that about 95% of their business is walk-in, grab-and-go, and eat-elsewhere, as I'm usually the only customer who's actually eating in the "dining room," if that's what you want to call it. Photo: The clock on the wall reads 0532 on this chilly 26-degree morning, Wednesday, December 11, 2013, and that's why I'm dressed up as Nanook of the North, complete with down jacket and beanie hat, in order to stay warm, on my morning walk. Foothills Doughnuts opens at 0430, so they're always open when I'm on my walk, and ready to enjoy a delicious doughnut or two for breakfast. Photo: A couple of weeks before my latest visit, we ordered a "Baker's Dozen," which includes "your choice" of 14 doughnuts, for the price of 12. As you can see, our choice was high on the side of jelly doughnuts, which, as far as I'm concerned, are as good as it gets. Mom and pop, husband and wife, small business, or whatever you want to call it, Foothills Doughnuts is owned and operated by a local couple, who will help you begin your day at 0430, when the restaurant opens. The doughnuts are great, the staff is friendly, and Foothills Doughnuts is a great way to begin your day! Foothills
