Wednesday, August 15, 2017, I enjoyed my semi-annual check-up with my doctor, and since blood work was to be done, I was required to fast for at least 12 hours before my visit, and allowed to drink only water. By the time I was finished, I was as "hungry as a horse," so I decided to reward myself to Cafe Delicious, and enjoy a breakfast of "Huevos a Caballo..." As with all restaurant reviews I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences. Photo: The Rocklin location of Cafe Delicias, on Pacific Street, near downtown Rocklin. Cafe Delicias is a small chain of four restaurants, all located in West Placer County, and all four restaurants feature identical menus that feature all of your Mexican favorites. It's a little after 10 in the morning on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, and I'm "hungry as a horse," and looking for some "Huevos a Caballo" for breakfast. Photo: I arrived shortly after the restaurant opened at 10 to an empty dining room. My friendly greeter-server, Paloma, said I could sit anywhere I chose, so I seated myself at a booth near the window, which makes for better photography. Photo: The menu features a small selection of Mexican breakfast favorites, which is appropriate, as the restaurant doesn't open until 10 in the morning, which is on the late side for breakfast. The "Huevos a Caballo" grabbed my attention, as it sounded good to me. If you know anything about Mexican slang, you know what "huevos" are, and it makes it extra funny combined with "caballo" which is "horse" in Spanish. Photo: Yes, I know it's about 10:20 in the morning, but I'd been up since 5, had just enjoyed a visit with my doctor, got a shot and had blood drawn, so a beer sounded absolutely FANTASTIC! Water is free, of course, and the chips and two varieties of salsa are included with your meal. Both varieties were delicious, but the red sauce, which was chilled and came from the red squeeze bottle, was super flavorful, which a nice smoky taste, and just enough heat to give a little "kick" to anything, especially the tortilla chips. Photo: Meet Paloma, my friendly server, who took good care of me, and was more than happy to have her photo taken, as she placed my meal on the table. Notice by the time my meal arrived I had nearly polished off the bowl of chips, finished the bowl of salsa crude, and was working on my second bowl of the red salsa. Photo: I'm all smiles, as Paloma takes my photo, as I have a great breakfast of "Huevos a Caballo" ready to end my 15+ hour fast. The bandage on my arm is from the blood work, I was "enjoying" an half hour before the photo was taken. Photo: Oh yeah! "Huevos a Caballo," which is two fried eggs, on top of two cheese enchiladas, served with rice and beans. Of course I ordered my eggs fried over easy, which is my de facto standard, and the eggs arrived perfectly cooked to my liking. The menu didn't say anything about rancheria sauce, so it was an exciting and pleasant surprise. This meal was enjoyable, fantastic and perfect in every way. The photo truly shows how "delicias" this meal really was. If you like breakfast, lunch and Mexican food, and you can't make up your mind, this dish will work for you, as it combines the best of everything. My breakfast was delicious, so the Rocklin location of Cafe Delicias definitely lives up to it's name. Not only was he food delicious, but the portion was HUGE and I actually ended up taking one of the corn tortillas home to enjoy at a later time. Cafe Delicias is a solid choice for great Mexican cuisine in Rocklin. Cafe Delicias Copyright(c) 2018 eRench Productions. All rights reserved. We've been on the web since December 22, 2002.
