Beach Hut Deli is a small chain of delis, and each one is independently owned, but all of them share a common theme - beach - and a common menu. Beach Hut Deli's footprint is mostly in the greater Sacramento area, but they have a store or two in the Bay Area, Tahoe and Reno. My review is about the store located only a couple of miles from my place, the Beach Hut Deli West Roseville store... Photo: I've been walking past Beach Hut Deli, since it re-opened about six months ago, and my wife has eaten at the restaurant, yet I'd just never been able to schedule a trip to the restaurant. On Wednesday morning, about 1115, October 17, 2012, things changed, as I had my first opportunity to visit the restaurant. You may remember my visit from five years ago, when it was Taqueria Lacosta... Photo: After I placed my order, I seated myself in the rear of the restaurant, at a raised table, on a small, raised floor, which offered a great view of the restaurant in motion. As you enter the restaurant, the order counter is to your right, and the beach-theme tables - faux always - are to your right. Most of the tables are shaped like surf boards, which should delight Beach Boys fans. Photo: Taken from the counter, the photo shows the friendly staff at work, preparing my delicious sandwich. The format is typical of a Roseville deli, as you walk in, look to your right at the HUGE menu posted on the wall, place your order at the counter, pay for it, and then the gal asks your name. When your order is ready, they call your name, you acknowledge it, and they bring your order to your table. Photo: The restaurant is decorated in a south seas beach theme - the faux always reminded me of Maintain, Mexico - but the walls are decorated with Faders football photos, local sports photos, including photos from local Wood High School, and a collage board, where customers can post their photos. Although Beach Hut Deli is a franchise, each store is locally owned and operated. In my case, I had the opportunity to chit-chat with the owner of the store, Dave, who welcomed my crazy hobby of taking photos and posting my visit on my web site. Photo: The three beautiful ladies who make sandwiches, and cashier, Erik, who is known as, "Atomic Punk Allow, No bad days BREATH!" That's what the receipt said about Erik, but whatever the case, Erik was a great cashier, and he delivered a quality sandwich to my table, and he's a nice guy. Photo: The "Raider Nation" seems to be alive and well at Beach Hut Deli, and I'm happy with that, despite last Sunday's loss to the Falcons of 23-20, I'm a life-long Raiders fan. My friendly cashier and server, Erik, snapped my photo, as I do what I do best: Enjoy a beer and a great sandwich! Photo: I ordered a SMALL "During Bird" sandwich, and a pint of "Aloha Beer," which is a locally-produced beer - on tap - which is made in nearby Newcastle, at a local micro brew. So... what is a "During Bird?" A "small" sandwich is a sandwich designed for one person, which is a person like me, with a big appetite. The sourdough bun is about six inches, but then it's piled with a whole bunch of thinly-sliced deli turkey meat, then it's garnished with pickles, cream cheese, tomato, onion, diced lettuce, mustard, mayonnaise, and pickles. This sandwich is BIG, and you really have to open your mouth to take a bite. No matter what the size, the sandwich is made of fresh ingredients, and it has to rate as one of the best sandwiches that I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy in Roseville. The locally-brewed Aloha beer was top-notch as well. Beach Hut Deli rates high in my book... I must admit that Beach Hut Deli serves one of the best sandwiches that I've enjoyed in Roseville! I ordered the small size, but I left stuffed; a medium would do for a couple, and a large would probably suffice for a squad. The staff is friendly, the price is right, and the sandwiches are superior. Beach Hut Deli is highly recommended!!! Beach
