Back Forty Texas BBQ, located in Roseville, CA is one of the two Sacramento area links in the chain of three restaurants, with the flagship restaurant located in Pleasant Hill, in the nearby San Francisco East Bay area.

As with all restaurant reviews I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.

Photo:  Texas comes to Roseville?  Well... sort of, as Back Forty Texas BBQ has lots of Texas influence, but has a definite California flair.  Whatever the case, it's 11:00 in the morning, November 12, 2022, and the restaurant has just opened, and I'm in the mood for a "Texas style" burger.

Photo:  As you enter the restaurant, you'll first notice the menu, the bar and the window to the kitchen.  Since I arrived exactly when the restaurant opened for the day, I think I surprised the staff, as they all seemed to be very busy getting things ready for the day.  Normally, there would be a meet/greet staff member at the counter, but that didn't happen on this Saturday morning.

No worries as I simply sat myself at the bar and shortly I was welcomed by friendly Judy.

Photo:  "Taqueria style," the menu is posted above the order counter.  You can order from the counter on the overhead menu, but there are printed menus, and... naturally... the menu is online, on the restaurant's web site.

Online orders, "to-go" seemed to be very popular on this late Saturday morning.

Back Forty Texas BBQ is a full service restaurant, so if you enjoy dining "in," simply sit at a table - or at the bar - and you'll enjoy the full service of a very hospitable host or hostess.

Photo:  Cowboys are always welcome at this western-theamed restaurant, as looking toward the kitchen, the bar, and one of the dining rooms.

Photo:  The restaurant has several dining rooms, with tables, booths, and accommodations for large parties of diners who love barbecue.  The dining rooms are squeaky clean, and very "western" in decor.

Photo:  "Mr. Armadillo" helps to spell out "cowboy logic" at the restaurant.  Back Forty attempts to bring Texas to Roseville, and it works, both in the atmosphere, and the delicious barbecue cuisine.

Photo:  Back Forty won the "People's Choice" award, at the "Nugget Rib Cookoff," back in 2012, which was quite an achievement, considering the rib cookoff is one of the largest "rib events" on the west coast.

I've been to the "Nugget Rib Cookoff" many times... including the 2016 Nugget Rib Cookoff, in Sparks, NV.

Photo:  As the 1950's country-western song says, "Bartender, pour me a beer..." as that's happening as my friendly bartender pours me a large frosted mug of Coors beer, from the tap.

Photo:  Back Forty Texas BBQ features a full service bar!  I sat at the bar and got a view of the kitchen, and met my friendly hostess, Judy.

Photo:  Judy checks the order, as the chef has finished  my meal, and it is ready for Judy to deliver to me, at my seat at the bar.

Photo:  Meet Judy, my amazingly friendly hostess, who delivered my delicious lunch to me with a smile.  Such a gracious and friendly hostess!  The inside light was poor... why didn't I use flash to take the photo?

Actually, using flash scares most people, and with a digital camera, there is a maddening delay of about a half second between the time you press the shutter and when the flash fires.  For situations like this photo, where Judy was very busy, the half-second delay between the shutter and when the flash fires seemed like a lifetime.

Oh for the days of 35mm film, when the flash fired instantly!

At least I was able to pull something out of the dark, blurry photo, thanks to digital editing.

Photo:  Thanks, Judy, for taking my photo, as I get ready to enjoy my delicious lunch at Back Forty Texas BBQ, located in Roseville, CA.

Photo:  From the "Burgers" section of the menu, I went with "The Texas Outlaw Burger," with my side of choice as, "Texas Wedge Cut Fries," with a side of ranch dressing.

The menu describes this delicious burger as, "All-natural bourbon whiskey glaze, pepper jack cheese, applewood smoked bacon and haystack onions.  Served on a ciabatta roll."  I describe the burger as simply delicious...

The burger started out with a half pound beef patty, cooked medium, just the way I love it.  Note that I didn't specify how my meat was to be cooked... the restaurant must have "read my mind" as I loved the meat.  The delicious meat was served on a lightly buttered, toasted ciabatta roll that was - SURPRISE!!! - garnished with "house" barbecue sauce!  Oh my!  Not to mention that the beef was covered with a thick slice of pepper jack cheese, perfectly melted on top of the meat patty.  Deep fried onion slices, along with bacon rounded out this amazing burger.

The slice of red onion, along with the dill pickle slices were on the side, ready to assemble on to the burger.  This made for an outstanding presentation, but more importantly... the combination of warm meat, bacon cheese and bun, contrasted with the chilled onion and pickle slices... made for an amazing burger.

"Texas Wedge Cut Fries" were sliced potato wedges, lightly battered, seasoned and deep fried to perfection to make for an outstanding side dish.  The cup of ranch dressing was perfect for dipping, but since I seem to have a bit of a "kid" in me, I also dipped my fries in ketchup.  Ranch or ketchup... the "Texas" fries were delicious, and made for an outstanding side dish.

Such a delicious lunch!  The "Texas Outlaw Burger," complete with everything along with the side of fries was simply delicious.  There is nothing in the world that I crave more than a delicious burger, and Back Forty Texas BBQ serves a delicious burger.  If you're a fan of burger, just say to yourself, "Go for it!"

Photo:  I could not decide between the one side offered with lunch, so I ordered a side dish of "Tater Barrels," so I could enjoy both sides.  When it comes to potatoes, there is nothing that I don't love, so I ordered a side of "Tater Barrels" along with my "Texas Wedge Cut Fries," which came with my burger.  Yes... I took half of me meal home in a box to enjoy for dinner.

The "Tater Barrels" were deliciously breaded and fried "tator tots."  Delicious, deep fried to perfection, just what you would expect, but nothing spectacular.  When I dipped each one of these little beauties into the cup of ranch dressing... yowzaa!... I was transported into the "shangri la" of fried potatoes.

Photo:  My burger, cut in half, along with half of the fries and tots, with the veggies and cup of ranch dressing on the side.  I call this "portion control" as I have the willpower to cut the burger in half, along with half of the sides, and put them in a box, to enjoy later for dinner.  I could eat the whole meal in one setting, but I prefer to keep my weight under control!

At Back Forty Texas BBQ, you'll enjoy the friendly, western dining room, friendly service, and delicious barbecue, served by friendly staff.  The staff is friendly, there is great draft beer on tap, and the barbecue is delicious!

Back Forty Texas BBQ is a destination for all Placer County "foodies" who love great Texas-inspired barbecue!
