The small mountain town of Truckee, CA, offers quite a few choices to enjoy a delicious breakfast.  However, keeping with the nature of a lazy, mountain town, many restaurants don't open early.  If you're a breakfast fanatic, and an early riser, as I am, head to Jax Truckee Diner for a early, delicious breakfast, in Truckee.

Photo:  Jax Truckee Diner is also known as "Jax at the Tracks," as it's right next to the Union Pacific railroad tacks that pass through the small mountain town of Truckee. According to the friendly staff, and memoribilia displayed inside the restaurant, the site used to house a railroad bunkhouse, until the bunkhouse was torn down, and Jax Truckee Diner was moved to the site, back in 1992.  Yes, the building was moved to it's present location, from another part of town!  Very interesting...

Photo:  Oh yeah, do I ever love the small-town nostalgic diner atmosphere!  Jax is art deco, at it's best, and every table is loaded with lots on condiments, in true diner style.  On this early Monday morning - 0715 - June 22, 2015, the diner is nearly empty, but nearly an hour later, the restaurant was packed with locals, who appreciate a great place to eat, and enjoy a great breakfast.

Photo:  When I dine alone, I prefer to dine at a counter, as counters allow ample photo opportunities, and the chance to mingle with the staff, and ask a lot of questions.  Jax Truckee Diner has a long, spotlessly clean counter, stocked with plenty of condiments.  I placed myself near the end of the counter, not far from the entrance to the kitchen.

Photo:  In true diner fashion, neo-1950's, Jax makes real milkshakes, using real ice cream, and other quality ingredients.  Yes, after pouring your milkshake into a glass, they bring to stainless steel container, so you can clean up every delicious drop.  Here, my hostess, Alissa, who was the only server on duty at the time of my visit, makes a milkshake for another customer.  A milkshake from Jax is on my radar during my next visit.

Photo:  Jax Truckee Diner has a web site, and I checked it out before visiting the restaurant.  I toyed with many options, but decided to chose what the menu describes as the "house favorite," and which my friendly server Alissa confirmed was the number one choice with local, regular customers.  So, why not?  Alissa offered very friendly service, made me feel welcome, and had no objections to my photos, and lots of questions.  Jax Truckee Diner is a quality restaurant, as it has been featured on Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" national television show.

Photo:  Thanks, Alissa, for taking my photo with my choice of breakfast, the "All Day Addiction."  More on this interesting breakfast in the next photo...

Photo:  The "All Day Addiction" certainly makes a pretty presentation!  The menu describes it as, "A house favorite! Two eggs, triangle hash browns, Canadian bacon, avocado, mixed greens, chilled oven roasted tomatoes, balsamic drizzle and basil pesto."  The breakfast definitely sounded interesting, and it very different from the usual truck-stop fare that I usually order for breakfast.  When asked how I wanted my eggs cooked, I requested my de facto standard of over easy.  I think what really motivated me to order the "Addiction" was the fact that the menu, and the staff, said it is the "house favorite" for breakfast, and the fact that it's covered in sliced avocados, which I absolutely adore.

The breakfast could be best described as "layered."  It starts out with a layer of crispy hash browns on the bottom, with Canadian bacon topping the hash browns.  Next is a layer of fancy lettuce, followed by fried eggs, green pesto, and topped by diced avocado, with a toothpick to hold it together.  The creation is drizzled with balsamic vinegar for taste, and to make the presentation even more attractive.  The oven roasted tomatoes are served on the side. Check out my photo, as the presentation is stunning!

Despite the "All Day Addiction" being delicious, and perhaps to some, addicting, I wish that I had ordered a more standard breakfast fare, as the "Addiction" was a tad on the "foo-foo" side for me.  No worries, as that's just my opinion, as a breakfast person who craves truck stop diner cuisine.  Next time I visit Jax Truckee Diner, I'll order a breakfast more on the "trucker" side of the fence...
